Gather Your Materials Use this checklist to help you gather the information you'll need as you fill out your Common App.
[] High school information You'll need to know things like your high school's CEEB code, GPA scale, and class rank reporting. Check in with your counselor for more details about this information. Ask them for the High School Details Information Sheet! (Download it at commonapp.org/ready)
[] An unofficial copy of your high school transcript You'll be asked to list the courses you're taking this academic year.
Some colleges ask applicants to self report their full academic record in the Courses & Grades section. If you have a college on your list that requires Courses & Grades, you'll need your transcript to complete this section.
[] A copy of your test scores and dates You have the option to enter scores for standardized exams like the ACT and SAT that you have taken and/or plan to take. Don't forget, you'll still need to send official score reports to colleges that require them.
[] Citizenship information Social Security Number, if you intend to apply for financial aid via FAFSA (For U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, U.S. dual citizens, U.S. permanent residents, U.S. refugees, and U.S. asylees).
For Permanent Residents: A copy of your green card.
For non-U.S. citizens: U.S. visa type, number, and date issued. If you do not yet have a U.S. visa but intend to apply for one, you can indicate that in the application.
[] State of residence information If you think you qualify for in-state tuition for a school you might be asked to share more information about your residence in that state.
Property of Common App, Inc. I © 2019 Common App, Inc. ] commonapp.org
[] Parent information You'll be asked to share some basic information about one or more parents, including your parent's occupation and job title, and the education level they received. If your parent attended college, you'll need to know the name and location of the college they attended, as well as what degree they received and when.
Parent information
Ill Occupation LJ] Job title ■ Education level ■ Name of college(s) attended II College location Ill Degree earned Ill Year degree earned
D A list of academic honors You can include up to 5 academic honors you received during high school. You'll need to include the honor's title, when you received it, and the level of recognition you received (regional or national, for example).
[] A list of your activities You have the option to enter up to 10 activities you participated in during high school. These activities might include family responsibilities, jobs, volunteer work, clubs, sports, hobbies, and more.
For each activity you'll list: the years of participation, hours per week and weeks per year spent on the activity, position/leadership held, and a brief description.

COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS
1) PERFORM COLLEGE SEARCH: Naviance >> COLLEGES >> Find Your Fit> Advanced College Search. Select specific criteria (try to keep selections broad by choosing only the following criteria: Type I Location I Majors). Click View Matches at any time to see the final list of potential colleges. Select Save Search and enter a name that will allow you to identify the search in the future. By clicking the box next to the college names, select Compare Me to view your statistics against previous RHHS applications or select "Add to Colleges I'm Thinking About" to refer to at a later date. Select each college name link to view information about the college. Revise your search by selecting the link under Search Criteria.
2) SELECT COLLEGE: Narrow down colleges by researching, visiting and contacting the college directly.
3) COLLEGE VISITS TO RHHS: Representatives from over 70 colleges visit RHHS, which is a great opportunity for students to meet with college representatives individually. College visits are posted on Naviance, in homeroom announcements, and through the Remind texts, so please make sure you get a pass from Guidance prior to the college visit.
4) RESUME: a. Create a resume (use brag sheets/accomplishments sheets found in Guidance for a list of your activities) to be given to
your counselor and at least two teachers to write letters of recommendation. b. Upload resume to Naviance by going to My Planner> Tasks> Complete Resume> Drop files or click to Browse then
Upload File.
5} REQUEST LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: a. Determine how many letters of recommendation are required by each college. If applying with the Common App, a
Counselor recommendation is required, so provide resume to counselor. b. Note: You can request a copy of the letter, but teachers do not have to share the letter. Teachers will upload the
letters to Naviance directly, and the letters will be sent with the transcript (upon receipt of the Request for Transcript form).
c. When asking teachers to write letters of recommendation, please give ample time. How to request letters: • Ask your teacher in person by providing the green Teacher Recommendation Form with your resume; AND • If you are asking RHHS faculty, log in to Naviance to request letters of recommendation (generates email to teacher
to upload letter). Naviance instructions: Colleges> Apply to College> Letters of Recommendation; Click Add Request; Select teacher from dropdown box, and select All current and future colleges ...
• If you are asking a teacher outside of RHHS, please follow the instructions under the Common App Section (Step #7).
6) COMPLETE APPLICATION: a. COMMON APP: Create a Common App account at http://www.commonapp.org b. ONLINE APPLICATION: If colleges are not on the Common App, applications can usually be found online under the
college website and Admissions. c. COALITION APPLICATION: Some colleges use the Coalition Application, which is similar to the Common App, but is not
linked to Naviance, so there is no need to match accounts for the Coalition.
7} ESSAYS: a. Research questions; you may be able to use the same essay. Recommendation: Submit essays, even if optional. b. Have other people proofread for grammar and content. c. NOTE: If using the Common App, do NOT upload your essay until you are sure it is the final version!
8) APPLICATION DEADLINES: Request/or Transcript must be submitted to Guidance at least two weeks prior to deadline. Do not wait!!! Forms are in Guidance and instructions are under NAVIANCE section. Transcripts can be sent before students submit their applications, as long as you are sure you are applying to the college.
9) TEST SCORES: Students are responsible for sending official SAT or ACT scores directly to the colleges. Students can request up to four free score reports when registering for the SAT; otherwise, there is a fee for each score report sent to each college.
10) GRADES: If you applied prior to first quarter report cards being printed and your college requires first quarter grades, complete the Request for Quarter 1 Grades form (found in Guidance). First semester /mid-year transcripts are automatically sent to all common app colleges to which you've applied.
COMMON APP 1) Create an account in the Common App (http://www.commonapp.org). NOTE: You can save and return to the
Common App any time before submitting applications. RHHS GMAIL accounts are de-activated within 30 days after graduation, so consider using a personal email when registering for the Common App.
2) Go to the Common App tab and complete information for each section. 3) Add schools by going to the College Search tab. Once you add the college, it will appear in the My Colleges tab. 4) To match the Common App to Naviance, you MUST complete the FER PA authorization. To do so, select at least one
college (under My Colleges tab), select Recommenders and FERPA, then select "Complete Release Authorization." Read descriptions and answer accordingly. The FERPA authorization will apply to ALL schools.
5) Under My Colleges, select each college to complete additional questions specific to that college. 6) Requesting letters from RHHS teachers or counselors will be done through Naviance (see instructions under NAVIANCE). 7) If requesting letters from outside recommenders (Principal, employer, coach, etc.), invite them through the Common App
(since they do not have access to Naviance) once you have completed the FER PA Authorization (step 4 above). Outside recommenders may not count toward the number of teacher recommendations required: a. Go to My Colleges tab, and select each college individually. b. Select "Recommenders and FERPA" c. Under Invite Recommenders, select Invite and Manage Recommenders to add the recommender's information (name,
title, relationship, email address, etc.), then click "Invite." d. Under the Other Recommender section, assign the recommender to each specific school, which generates an email to
the outside recommender with instructions on how to upload the letter. e. NOTE: Students have to do this for each college they want the outside recommender's letter sent to.
8) You can submit the Common App individually to each college as you have completed the requirements.
COMMON APP FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS • Rocky Hill High School Code= 070648. • RHHS ranks students using an exact rank and a weighted rank. Your class rank and GPA are found on your transcript. • GPA is weighted and the GPA scale is out of 4.0. • Graduating size of the class of 2021 is TBD. (Please note this may be different than what's listed on your transcript, as not
all students are ranked at RHHS based on school policy for transfer students.) • For those who entered RHHS as a freshman, and are a part of the class of 2021, the date of entry is 9/5/2017 and the
expected day of graduation is 6/2021.

CHANGES TO SENIOR SCHEDULE • Colleges receive an initial transcript with all senior classes. If seniors drop classes throughout the year, they must notify
colleges of any schedule changes. SELF-REPORTING SAT/ACT SCORES • Students can self-report test scores on a school-by-school basis. After submitting to one school, go into the test section of the application and 'edit' what you want the next school to see. You can edit this section as many times as you wish before submitting it to each college.
IF A STUDENT TOOK A COLLEGE COURSE (UCONN/ECE) JUNIOR YEAR AND IS CURRENTLY TAKING ONE SENIOR YEAR, CAN THEY FUTURE-DATE WHEN THE CLASS WILL END?
• The applicant can put the future date to indicate that they have and will still be taking college credit courses until the specified date.
CAN A STUDENT UPLOAD A RESUME TO COMMON APP? • An applicant can only upload a resume if the institution specifically asks for a resume in the college specific writing
supplement section. Not all institutions will ask for a resume. STUDENTS ATTENDING TWO SCHOOLS (GHAA) • Students can add additional schools under "other schools". Traditionally in Common App, "other" referred to a school they transferred from, not one in which the student attends through graduation. The student will have to select the date they feel is most appropriate, and then provide more details in the Additional Information section of their application.
NAVIANCE ( https :// student.navia nee. com/rockyhi 11)

Enter the email used to
create the Common App account. Note: If you have not completed the FERPA authorization in the Common App, you will not be able to match your account. Please return to Common App to complete FERPA information before matching your accounts between the Common App and Naviance (instructions under the COMMON APP).
Update College Applications • Go to Navia nee> Colleges> Colleges I'm Applying To • If Naviance and the Common App are matched, a list of colleges from the Common App will be displayed. Update App
