Slack Wax imports of India robust at 2892 MT during Jan 2010

In the month of January 2010 country India procured nearly 2892 MT of Slack wax. The imported quantum comprises major quantity imported form Iran. Approximately 2616 MT is imported from Iran which is almost 90% of total imports, further it imported 132 MT (5%) from Indonesia, 76 MT (3%) from Korea and 68 MT (2%) form UAE. India dispatched 1706 MT (59%) to Delhi TKD, 978 MT (34%) to Calcutta, 170 MT (6%) to Madras and 38 MT (1%) to JNPT.

Sludge Oil imports to India during Jan 2010 surged fro Singapore....

India imported approximately 3292 MT of Sludge oil in the month of January 2010. The country imported 1148 MT (35%) from Singapore, 772 MT (23%) from Liberia, 452 MT (14%) from Panama, 252 MT (8%) from Malaysia, 226 MT (7%) from Hong Kong, 163 MT (5%) form UK, 139 MT (4%) from Sri Lanka, 111 MT (3%) from Germany and 30 MT (1%) form Saudi. The country imported the huge quantum only at two ports that is 2733 MT (83%) into JNPT and 559 MT (17%) into Bombay.

China FOB Paraffin Wax Prices firmed up by 3 percent...

Over a period of one year Paraffin wax FOB China price trend is as mentioned below. Fob China prices were in the range of US$ 950 – 965 PMT in January, In February prices fallen down and reported in the range of US$ 930 – 940 PMT further decrease in March mark the price level at US$ 900 – 910 PMT. In the month of April prices started climbing charts and were in the range of US$ 1035 – 1050 PMT, it further jumped up to US$ 1075 – 1085 PMT in May. Prices of the product suddenly dipped down to US$ 975 – 990 PMT in June. In July FOB China prices were in the range of US$ 1030 – 1040 PMT, in August prices were hovering in the range of US$ 1035 – 1045 PMT, in September price were in the range of 1045 – 1060 PMT, in October it further increases to US$ 1075 – 1085 PMT. Price levels continued to remain increasing and reported at US$ 1090 – 1110 PMT in November, US$ 1155 – 1170 PMT in December, US$ 1170 – 1180 PMT in January 2010 and US$ 1185 – 1195 PMT in February. FOB China prices continued to climbing up the charts and have become all the time higher in the current month that is in March 2010, prices are hovering around US$ 1220 – 1235 PMT. In the current month prices have firmed up by 3% compared to last month.

Toluene Prices of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd surged up 45.44% during the period February 2009 - March 2010

Toluene basic price of Indian State PSU BPCL reported at Rs 34000/- during the month of February 2009, Rs. 33500 PMT in March, Rs. 37550 PMT in April, Rs. 37550 PMT in May, Rs. 35100 PMT in June, Rs, 41600 PMT in July, Rs. 41750 PMT in August, Rs. 45400 PMT in September, Rs. 45400 PMT in October, Rs. 41750 PMT in November, Rs. 45500 PMT in December, Rs. 48000 PMT in January 2010, Rs. 49450 PMT in February and Rs. 49450 PMT in March 2010. BPCL prices have remained steady in March compared to February. Prices of the product are at the peak point in February and March. Toluene prices have witnessed a jump of 45.44% (Rs 15450 PMT) from February 2009 - March 2010

BPCL Furnace Oil prices decreased 4 percent duringMarch than last month...

BPCL prices for Furnace oil reported at Rs. 16200 PMT in January, further it went up to Rs. 16560 PMT in February. Compared to January and February price dipped down a bit and reported at Rs. 16320 PMT in April and remained steady in May. In the month of June prices took a very good hike and reported at Rs. 19370 PMT. Bitumen 60/70 (Packed) basic price of Indian State PSU BPCL which reported at Rs 27330 /- during the month of February 2009, dipped down to Rs. 25960 PMT in March. BPCL prices firmed up a bit and reported at Rs. 26500 PMT in April; prices remained steady and were Rs. 26500 PMT in May. In the month of June again prices have shaken a bit and reported at Rs. 25640 PMT. Prices Followed the upward trend from July onwards and reported as Rs, 25825 PMT in July, Rs. 27405 PMT in August and Rs. 27750 PMT in September, Rs. 28550 PMT in October, Rs. 32380 PMT in November, Rs. 32380 PMT in December and Rs. 32400 PMT in January 2010. In the month of February 2010 BPCL prices fell down by 5% and reported at Rs. 30910 PMT.

Indian State PSU's IOC/HPCL/BPCL hikes Aviation Turbine Fuels price by 3.5 percent ....

Indian State PSU's Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), have raised Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) price by 3.5 per cent. Jet fuel prices in Delhi were raised by Rs 1,325 per kilolitre to Rs 39,307 per kilolitre. In Mumbai, the rates were raised by Rs 1,380 to Rs 40,547 per kilolitre. However no immediate comments were available from airlines on the impact the latest hike would have on airfares. This hike comes after 5.5 per cent reductions were made on February 1, 2010 and 2.5 per cent on February 16, 2010. Jet fuel constitutes roughly 40 per cent of the operating cost of an airline and the increase in fuel rates would put extra burden on Indian carriers. The three oil firms revise jet fuel prices on the first and 16th of every month based on the average global oil price in the previous fortnight.

China will build more receiving terminals in southern Guangdong province for imported liquefied natural gas (LNG). Reportedly, Guangdong has one LNG terminal in operation, which is chiefly run by CNOOC, China's leading LNG project developer.CNOOC has planned a second terminal near the first one and one in Zhuhai city, while China's top oil and gas producer Petro China has also planned a terminal at the estuary of the Pearl River in Guangdong

province. In addition, CNOOC is also mulling two other terminals for imported gas in the eastern and western part of Guangdong, respectively. Guangdong, home to around a quarter of China's exported goods, is China's leading LNG consumer and it has no access to piped gas produced from inland provinces. Chinese gas demand, though accounting for a small proportion of the country's total energy consumption, has been rising fast and shortages often emerge during cold winters. Taking advantage of weaker global demand, China has since 2008 landed a series of LNG deals with exporters in Australia and Qatar through long-term supply agreements with companies such as Shell, ExxonMobil and Total. Gas supply talks between the two countries have long been shadowed by disagreements over prices though the two sides finally inked a pact in October 2009 for Russia to supply 70 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year to China from Siberia and the Russian Far East.

The ExxonMobil-led Papua New Guinea liquefied natural gas (PNG LNG) joint venture has penned deals with Japanese transport company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for the construction and charter of LNG vessels.One of the agreements involves the long-term charter of MOL's two existing 177,000 cubic metre capacity LNG carriers co-owned by Itochu Corporation, PNG LNG joint venture partner Oil Search Ltd said in a translated MOL statement on Wednesday.” Simultaneously, MOL has entered into two heads of agreement, one with the PNG LNG project and one with an ExxonMobil-affiliated company in the (Chevron) Gorgon project, with the intention for MOL to construct and long-term charter a total of four LNG vessels to the projects.” The vessels will be built in China, with delivery slated sometime from 2014 until 2016.The PNG LNG joint venture, which also involves Santos Ltd, aims to produce its first LNG in late 2013/early 2014.Chevron is targeting mid-2014 for first LNG from the Gorgon project on Barrow Island offshore from Western Australia.

PTT lube sees robust lubricant sales as demand in China and Burma picks up..

Exports to China and Burma are expected to lift PTT's sales of lubricant products by 50% this year, says Rachadech Khemthong, a vice-president of the country's biggest oil company. For 2010, the majority state-owned company aims for its export sales to grow by 40% to 10 million liters from 7.1 million last year.Mr Rachadech said the company hoped the fastest-growing export market would be China, where sales could rise to 6 million liters this year from only 646,000 liters last year. China's lube consumption last year was 7 billion liters and would rise by 10% this year. Once lubricant sale volume rises in China to more than 1.5 million liters, PTT will join a local partner, Guangdong-based Topship Chemical, in building a lube-blending factory in China to save unit costs. The investment cost is about 100 million baht, excluding land acquisition, and the factory will have an annual output of 30 million liters. Closer to home, Burma also shows strong potential, as PTT targets sales of 3.15 million litres, up from 831,000 a year earlier. PTT has seen a warm response to its products among Burmese motorists since its entry last year. "Our lube products are considered of high quality in the [China and Burma] markets. That makes us feel confident," said Mr Rachadech.PTT Lube started aggressive marketing activity overseas in 2007 and succeeded in improving sales from 4.7 million litres in 2008 to 7.1 million liters last year. PTT decided to appoint a local business partner, Tunn Star Co, as its sales agent in Burma late last year.” In order to keep our strong growth in those markets, we joined hands with the local partner who can access the market more easily," he said. Last year, PTT stepped up its marketing activity in China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Greece. This year, it will focus on the US, Lebanon and Southeast Asia. Also, PTT this year expects to sustain its growth at home to more than 120 million litres from 113 million last year. The increase will come from the rapid rebound in some sectors, particularly automobiles. As well, its rivals have eased their marketing campaigns, allowing PTT to grab a bigger market share. Overall domestic lubricant oil sales last year fell 10% to 498 million liters from 508 million in 2008. PTT commands the largest market share of 22.7%, followed by Shell (18.3%), Castrol (11%) and Chevron, Esso and Trane (7% each).PTT this year will focus on new lubricant oil products for vehicles and also on developing special products for the food and cosmetic industries, which demand extra-purified grades of lubricants. The company will also conduct research into the needs of the aviation sector, which uses high-quality grades. Shares of PTT closed yesterday on the Stock Exchange of Thailand at 218 baht, unchanged, in trade worth 704.8 million baht.

Luberef to produce new type of base oil after expansion at Yanbu Refinery...

Saudi Armco Lubricating Oil Refining Co (Luberef) expects the cost of expanding its Yanbu refinery to be nearly $1 billion, an Aramco executive said on Tuesday. Luberef, established in 1976, produces around 550,000 ton per year (tpy) of oil lubricants at its two refineries on the kingdom's Red Sea coast at Jeddah and Yanbu."The refinery will produce oil of type three, which is used in high quality car engines ... the project will cost around $1 billion," Salih Thani, supervisor of contracts and insurance at Luberef, told Reuters. The expansion of the Yanbu refinery, which has a current capacity of 280,000 ton per year (tpy) of oil lubricants, would produce a new type of base oil, which Thani said is new to the region.” There are no refineries in the Gulf region that produce this lubricant and there is very good demand for it in the Gulf and we could even export to Europe, India and Far East countries," Thani said. He declined to say by how much the refinery would be expanded. Japan’s JGC Corp (1963.T), Italy's Saipem (SPMI.MI), Foster Wheeler (FWLT.O) and U.S. Jacobs Engineering (JEC.N) are among firms due to submit bids for the refinery's front-end engineering and design (FEED) by March 15. [ID:nLDE61212W] But Luberef would only launch the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) bids by the beginning of 2011, said Thani."This project will probably take about five years of construction and after that will be operational," Thani added, without providing a specific start-up date. U.S. firm ExxonMobil (XOM.N) sold Saudi Arabia's Jadwa Industrial Investment its 30 percent stake in Luberef in 2007. Aramco holds the remainder. Industry sources had said at the time Aramco wanted Luberef to expand, which did not fit in with Exxon's plans in the lubricant market.

Japan bitumen import increases and export volumes fall drastically in January..

Japan exported only 12 MT of Bitumen in the month of January 2010. Out of the total quantity exported 8 MT (67%) was sent to Thailand and 4 MT (33%) to Turkey. The country has been exporting very little bitumen in recent months as it’s main outlet, China has been importing large quantities from Korea recently. In January, Japan procured roughly 20038 MT of Bitumen, which comprises of 19793 MT (99%) from R Korea, 228 MT (1%) from USA and 17 MT from China. Prices firmed up by US$ 5 PMT over a week’s time and were in the range of 495 – 500 in Japan. Japan imported nearly 185973 MT of Bitumen from January 2009 to January 2010. The country imported 25340 MT in January, 24082 MT in February, 14986 MT in March, 4562 MT in April, 8111 MT in June, 9094 MT in July, 15005 MT in July, 8088 MT in August, 12179 MT in September, 11964 MT in October, 17495 MT in November, 15029 MT in December and 20038 MT in January 2010. Compared to last month imports have gone up by 33% in January 2010. On an average Japan’s monthly imports are nearly 14305 MT per month. Korea R, China and USA are the countries from which Japan imports most of the quantity. Japan exported approximately 139140 MT of Bitumen from January 2009 to January 2010. The country exported 8426 MT in January, 8450 MT in February, 8372 MT in March, 27341 MT in April, 36373 MT May, 25240 MT in June, 14925 MT in July, 5451 MT in August, 4270 MT in September, 115 MT in October, 66 MT in November, 99 MT in December and 12 MT in January 2010. Exports of the country are rapidly declining from the month of May onwards, In December it firmed up a bit but again in January 2010 it drastically fell down by 725%. Japan exported the lowest quantity in January 2010. Japan exports most of it's bitumen to Thailand, China, Vietnam, Turkey and other regional buyers.

Iran bitumen prices steady..

Iran FOB prices in US$/t for Bitumen (Bulk) are in the range of 425 – 435 whereas for Drums it is hovering around 485 – 510; prices have not changed much since last week. In Bahrain FOB prices are oscillating around 450 - 455, prices have remained steady over a week’s time. Domestic bitumen demand in Iran is robust as the government continues to provide stimulus for local road construction activity. Approximately 110,000 tons of bitumen was sold on the Iranian Mercantile Exchange for the domestic market. Iran's annual bitumen production capacity is roughly 5.3 million MT per annum. Out of this, Pasargad Oil controls 60% of the total production whereas Jey Oil controls remaining 40%. Pasargad oil operates six bitumen refineries in Iran which are as follows. Tehran refinery producing grades like 60/70, 85/100, 85/25, Mc250, Emulsion and polymerase, has annual capacity of 700,000 MT. Tabriz refinery and Arak Refinery whose annual capacity is 500,000 MT and 600,000 MT respectively are well known for the production of 85/100 and 60/70. Abadan refinery having annual production capacity if 450,000 MT and Shiraz refinery with a capacity of 400,000 MT produces 60/70 and Mc250. Bandar Abbas refinery produces 60/70, 80/100 and 40/50, it’s production capacity is 600,000 MT per year. Jey oil own only one refinery that is Isfahan, whose annual production capacity is 2,100,000 MT and it undertakes the production of 60/70, 85/100, 40/50, 180/200, 120/150, Mc250, Emulsion and PMB.
