Different expectations of Standard and Foundation subjects will be taken into account when your child’s PSLE score is calculated

Higher Mother Tongue @ P5 (HMT)

• School will recommend HMT to pupils who score at least a Band 1 (85 marks & above) for MT paper for P4 SA2

• Parents are allowed to opt for HMT at the end of P4 even if the child has achieved Band 3

• At the end of P5, all students who wish to continue with HMT in P6 must achieve at least a “A” grade (75 marks & above ) for MT paper & pass HMT. Parents are not allowed to opt at the end of P5.

HMT and PSLE Aggregate Score

• Results for HMT will NOT be used for calculation of the PSLE aggregate score.

• ONLY the MT grades (i.e. CL/ML/TL) will be used for the calculation of the PSLE aggregate score.

Bonus Points for Admission to SAP Schools (for HCL only)

• Students in the top 30% of the PSLE cohort who take Higher Chinese at PSLE will be given bonus points for admission to SAP schools. This bonus points is only considered for admission to SAP schools.

Direct School Admission (DSA)

Introduction

Introduced in 2004 as part of MOE's movetowards creating more flexibility and options forstudents

Provides students an opportunity todemonstrate a more diverse range ofachievements and talents in seeking admissionto a secondary school

Allows participating schools to select some P6students for admission to Secondary 1 based ontheir achievements and talents before the PSLEresults are released

DSA Exercise is for all specialised schools,independent schools, autonomous schools andschools with approved niche programmes

Participating secondary schools are able toselect a certain percentage of their students foradmission outside of the centralised sec oneposting exercise

Application StageNote: The application deadline for each DSA-Sec school may be different

Gathering Information on SchoolsStudent obtains information on DSA-Sec schools, such as niche areas, selection criteria, dates of trials / tests / interviews, etc, through the following: Checking the schools’ websites, Calling the schools, and / or Visiting the schools

ApplicationStudent identifies the school(s) she would like to apply to. Student checks with the secondary schools she is interested in, on how to apply. Submit application.


Period Process

Stage 1: Selection Stage

Selection by SchoolsShortlisted student goes for selection tests / camps or interviews at the DSA-Sec school(s).

Selection OutcomeStudent receives outcome of application from the school(s) she has applied to (i.e. Confirmed, Wait List or Rejected)

School Preference FormStudents with "Confirmed" Offers or who have been put on the "Wait List" of a school will receive a School Preference Form from their respective primary schools. The form indicates the list of schools that the student has received Confirmed Offer from and/or placed on the Wait List.


Stage 2: Exercise School Preference Stage

School Preference IndicationParents can indicate their child's school preference(s) for up to 3 schools in the DSA School Preference Form. Parents can submit their child's school preference(s) either electronically via DSA-Sec Internet System or physically submit to the child's primary school.


Period Process

(Stage 3: Results Release Stage)

ResultsStudent collects her DSA allocation result from her primary school, together with her PSLE results. Student who is unsuccessful in the DSA-Sec Exercise will be notified of the outcome of the application and will participate in the Secondary One Posting Exercise
