Curriculum

• After SATs, work becomes more project based and children are expected to work independently and collaboratively to research and make decisions about how to present findings

• Literacy framework incorporates all aspects, each unit follows the same pattern, reading → writing → speaking

It looks at all types of text, including ICT texts, and all types of writing

• Maths framework focuses on one aspect at a time and is very much concerned with putting Maths in context

Curriculum

• Science:

Focus is on science in the real world, making links to everyday living. Topics include Electricity, How We See Things, Forces in Action and Changing Materials Healthy living, Micro Organisms

• ICT:

On-going use of ICT across the curriculum plus skills lessons and esafety

30 – 40mins per subject

Reading Logs & Diaries will be checked by staff every Friday

How you can help – before SATs Week

• Discuss the work children are doing at school

• Encourage a range of reading material all year and talk to children about their reading

• Take every opportunity to apply Mathematical skills to everyday situations – shopping, baking, measuring etc

How you can help – SATs Week

• Encourage, be positive, assure children they can only do their best

• Plan for a week free from late nights – aim for a good night’s sleep every night

• Ensure children have a good breakfast each morning (free breakfast provided at school that week!)

• Talk to children each evening and ask how things went
