FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS(FRESHMAN SEMINAR)
Required for all freshmen – Emphasizes four main areas:
College/Career Preparation – interest inventory, career exploration, college planning, overview of SAT/ACT, college costs, scholarships, etc.
Personal Planning – developing academic supports, note taking, organizational skills, time management, goal setting, test preparation, etc.
Technology Skills – evaluating websites, internet research, PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheet basics, etc.
Leadership Development – Skill sets, cooperative learning, dynamics of conflict, collaboration, etc.
HS DAILY SCHEDULE• Seven-period day• Yearlong classes; approx. 50 minutes each• Classes start at 8:15am, end at 3:15pm• Drop off as early as 7:45 am, must pick up by 3:45

Ex Schedule – During specific weeks during the year, the school may desire to have some “extra time” for specialized instruction. For such a week, the school would operate with the following schedule.

NC GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
For Ninth Graders Entering 2012 or laterFUTURE-READY CORE
English 4 Credits English I, II, III, IV
Math 4 Credits (Math I, Math II, Math III) OR (Integrated Math I, II, III) 4th Math Course to be aligned with the student’s post high school plans
Science 3 Credits One physical science course, Biology, Environmental Science
Social Studies 4 Credits Civics and Economics, World History, American History I: Founding Principles and American History II OR AP US History and additional social studies course
Foreign Language
Not required for high school graduation. A two-credit minimum is required for admission to a university in the UNC system.

CCA-CFA GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduation Requirements for CCA-CFA meet or exceed the NC Future-Ready Core
requirements
English 4 credits (English I, II, III, IV)
Math 4 credits (at minimum, Math I, Math II, Math III, and one higher math course)
Science 4 credits (Biology, Chemistry or Physics, and Earth/Environmental Science and one other science)
Social Studies 4 credits (World History, Civics and Economics, U.S. History and U.S. History 2)OR (World History, C&E, APUSH, and History elective)
Foreign Language 3 credits (including two progressive courses in same language)
PE/Health 1 credits

GRADING STRUCTURE
• All courses will use a 10 point grading scale• Quality point contributions are based on the course level• Additional 0.5 quality point for all honors level courses• Additional 1.0 quality point for all college level (AP) courses
GPA calculated based on final course grades, dividing total quality points earned by the number of credits attempted and rounding the results to the nearest three decimal places. Example – quality points for an “A” at different levels

IMPORTANT POLICIES
• Placement process for core classes– combination of•Teacher recommendation, •NWEA spring scores (or ACT EXPLORE data) and •8th grade grades
• Override – parents can opt to override teacher recommendation; requires meeting with counselor and signing override form
• Drop/add policy – first 10 days of class; after 10 days due to extenuating circumstances or teacher recommendation only, otherwise a WF on transcript
• Repeating courses - can only repeat failed courses; both grades
show on transcript and will count toward GPA
