CELEBRATING OUR GRADUATES

OPENING PRAYER Dave Tengler

We gather this morning in the name of the creator who creates time and space, galaxies stars and planets, oceans and rivers, mountains and caves, great green trees and tiny moss, frogs and whales and lizards and us— in the name of Jesus Christ, born on planet Earth; and in the name of the Spirit, who fills Earth with God’s presence,

Creator God, in this time we call “now” and in this space we call “here”, we worship you. Make your presence felt amongst us. Amen.

* OPENING SONG 664—Morning Has Broken Eleanor Farjeon, arr. Beverly Howard

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

One: God, we come with hesitant steps and uncertain motives to sweep out the corners where sin has accumulated, and uncover the ways we have strayed from Your truth.

All: Expose the empty and barren places where we don’t allow you to enter. Reveal our half-hearted struggles where we have been indifferent to the suffering of others. Nurture the faint stirrings of new life where your spirit has begun to grow. Let your healing light transform us into the image of Your Son. For You alone can bring new life and make us whole.

—Silent Prayer—

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

* THE PEACE As we are reconciled to God and to one another, share a sign of Christ’s peace and love with your neighbor.

* SONG 188—Jesus Loves Me! See next page

BAPTISM OF JUNE HAZEL SABO AND CORA GENE SABO

FRENCH REFORMED BAPTISMAL LITURGY: For you, little ones, the Spirit of God moved over the waters at creation, and the Lord God made covenants to live in love with his people. It was for you that the Word of God became flesh and lived among us, full of grace and truth. For you, June and Cora, Jesus suffered death and cried out “It is finished!” For you, Christ triumphed over death, rose in newness of life and ascended to reign over all. All of this was done for you, little ones, though you do not know it yet. But we will continue to tell you this good news until it becomes your own. And so the promise of the gospel is fulfilled: We love because God first loved us.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS Church camp will soon be here! Last year, we were so blessed to provide scholarships so that children from The Second Mile Center of Detroit could join us at Camp. We are hoping to do the same again this year for 10 children, and we need 8 more scholarships to do so! The cost to send a child on scholarship is $350. If you would like to donate any amount toward a camp scholarship, please send in a check made payable to Northbrook Church and marked Camp Scholarship in the memo section. Please contact Ken Stetson at [email protected] or Terri Hurbis at [email protected] if you have any questions and to let them know you will be donating. Thank you so much for your continued support of our Camp!

BY POPULAR DEMAND: BACKYARD BIBLE AND BEVERAGE RESUMES IN JULY! Starting July 6, we resume our summer Backyard Bible study. We’ll be reading Love Wins by Rob Bell in which he explores a central question of faith that many of us wonder about: Does it really make sense that God is a loving, kind, compassionate God who wants to know people in a personal way, but if they reject this relationship with Jesus, they will be sent to hell where God will eternally punish them forever? Bell leads us through an examination of what the Bible actually says on the subject, discovers that Jesus′ most fundamental teaching about heaven and hell is, "Love wins."

This is a casual discussion that you are free to drop in and out of as your calendar permits. All you need is a backyard, a lawn chair, whatever you would like to drink and the book (which can be purchased at Amazon in the format you prefer). If you are able to open your backyard for these conversations, please sign up on the sign up sheet in the Narthex after worship. See you in the backyard!

SUMMER WORSHIP IS IN YOUR HANDS! Is there a Bible passage you’d like to hear a sermon about? Is there a favorite song/hymn you’d like us to sing? Send the Bible verses (or just reference the story, e.g. “David and Goliath”) and song/hymn titles to [email protected]. As we plan summer worship, your choices will be featured, but you never know when so better not miss a service!
