SMALL GROUP STUDY: GIFTS OF THE DARK WOOD We’re kicking off a new small group study for Lent. The focus of our study is the book entitled Gifts of the Dark Wood: Seven Blessings for Soulful Wanderers (And Other Skeptics) by Eric Elnes. This is a book for anyone who feels awkward in their search for God, anyone who seeks to find holiness amid their holy mess and anyone who prefers practicality to piety when it comes to finding their place in this world. The worship and preaching from Ash Wednesday through Easter will follow the themes outlined in this book. This will be a seven-week journey that began the week of February 7th through Holy Week. If you didn’t sign up yet and are interested in participating, please see Marjorie or contact her at [email protected]. Marjorie will not be holding a Sunday morning study session so please contact her if you would like to join a different one.

CUPCAKE COFFEE HOUR The Cupcake Walk Coffee Hour is coming Sunday, February 28. Be sure that your cupcake creations are included in this sure to be delicious occasion. Just sign up in Fellowship Hall and plan to bring one dozen yummy little cupcakes. Please include a card identifying the type of cupcake on your plate. All are invited to participate in this fun event.

NORTHBROOK BOOK CLUB Please join the next Northbrook Book Club discussion on February 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Library. We will be discussing To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. All are welcome.

ONE WORLD SUNDAY: FAMILY ROOTS INTERNATIONAL POTLUCK ON SUNDAY, MARCH 6 Let’s gather in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, March 6 at 5:00 p.m. in support and recognition of Freedom House Detroit. We will honor our common humanity as children of God and celebrate our diversity. We’ll have fun sharing food from our own family cultures of our heritage. We’ll welcome and hear from our guests from Freedom House – Detroit (www.freedomhousedetroit.org). Bring a food from an area of the world that is part of your family heritage. Feel free to wear clothing styles common to your heritage. Potluck sign-ups will be taken in Fellowship Hall following worship services. This event is co-sponsored by the Mission, Congregational Life and Adult Ed Committees.

KNIT WITS Knit Wits will meet on Wednesday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m.

SENIOR SOUPER SUPPER Senior Souper Supper will meet on Thursday, February 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the Library.

ALS FUNDRAISER Join Northbrook member, Peggie Schiller, for a Pampered Chef Fundraiser Party on Saturday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m. to benefit ALS of Michigan –Team Courage Honoring Kevin Schiller. The event will take place in Northbrook’s kitchen and will focus on Healthy in a Hurry. For questions and to RSVP by February 17, contact Peggie at (248)318-3350 or [email protected]. SOUTH OAKLAND SHELTER (SOS) VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AND DONATIONS Starting this Sunday, February 14th, the sign-up sheets will be in Fellowship Hall detailing the many volunteer opportunities available as we host SOS from April 3rd to April 10th here at Northbrook. We will be taking donations to cover the expenses incurred from housing our SOS friends. Please make checks payable to Northbrook Church and designate SOS in the memo portion of the check. Monetary donations may be placed in the offering baskets on Sunday or returned to the church office. EMPTY BOWLS COLLECTION The Mission Connection Empty Bowls Collection from now through April will be used to help fund our hosting of South Oakland Shelter guests in early April. Please contribute your loose change in the bowl on the name-tag table in the main hallway or when you see it in Fellowship Hall during coffee hour.
