What I Know . . .
Those who teach your classes desire that youlearn. They want you to learn essentialinformation in subjects they have studied andenjoyed for years. You will develop some of theskills which they have mastered, and acquireinformed perspectives.
Using various teaching techniques, I seek topromote your learning and success. I seek toguide you, motivate you, and outline for you thebody of knowledge to be learned.
I "teach," but only you can learn!
Knowing what I expect of you may help you to
maximize your learning opportunities.

attend all classes, except when emergencies arise. If health and weather allow, Iwill be present and on time for every scheduled class meeting. So should you.
be an active participant in class, taking notes, asking appropriate questions. Yourinvolvement will benefit you and your classmates.
treat me and fellow students with courtesy. Refrain from any behaviors that maydistract others. You expect to be treated with tolerance and respect. You expect alearning environment free of unnecessary distractions. So does every one else.
cultivate effective study strategies. Being an effective student is not instinctive. Useyour study time wisely. Seek help when you need it. Avail yourself of resourcesprovided by myself and Julia Landon.
study course material routinely after each class meeting or so. Study according to aregular schedule. Avoid "cramming." Do not postpone working on assignments.Submit finished assignments on time.
accept the challenge of middle school studying, thinking, and learning. Anticipatethat the level and quantity of work in some courses will exceed your priorexperiences. If you have significant responsibilities besides your studies, such aswork and family, set realistic academic goals and schedules for yourself. Select anacademic load whose work demands do not exceed your available time and energy.
let no temptation cause you to surrender your integrity.

How Will I Be Graded?
You will be graded using a point system.
Each assignment, project, test, or homeworkassignment has a certain number of pointspossible. A test or project may be worth 100points, while a quiz or homework assignmentmay be worth 20 points. To determine yourindividual grade, I will simply divide the numberof points by the total possible points in a 9 weekperiod.
That percentage will be assigned a letter gradeusing the following scale:

FIRST QUARTER ONLY: you are allowed THREE late work-passes. A late work pass means you may submit late work one
class period after the original due date. In addition, you will be
submitting the late work for a maximum of 75% of the original
credit. After the first quarter, absolutely no late work will be
accepted.
At the teachers discretion, you may have the opportunity to
recycle homework. Students who choose to recycle an
