Kingston is a community whose history is filled with a strong and prominent military presence. The Canadian men and women, who give so much of themselves to serve our country, continue to earn and deserve our respect and gratitude. While our military servicemen and women serve in their various capacities overseas, their loved ones share these experiences in a much different fashion. New to OntarioIf you are a licensed driver with two or more years of driving experience in another Canadian province or territory, you may get full Class G or M license privileges without taking a knowledge road test, but you must pass a vision test and show acceptable proof of your previous license status.If you have a valid driver’s license from another province, state or country, you can use it for up to 60 days after you move to Ontario. New Ontario residents have 30 days before they have to register their vehicles and get Ontario license plates and vehicle permit. Enhanced Driver’s License can be used in place of a passport for crossing into the US by car or boat but not air in place of a passport.  It is proof of Canadian citizenship but is not recognized by DND as a form of military ID. Enhanced Driver’s Licenses are available at 1201 Division Street only.

New to Ontario New residents to Ontario have 90 days to obtain an Ontario Health Plan Insurance number. After this time the reciprocal coverage agreement with other Canadian provinces ends. Individuals arriving from postings outside of Canada who have not been covered by a provincial health care plan should contact the Kingston office as soon as possible.

To register for a health card you must go in person to the Ministry of Health office. When applying for a new health card you must bring three original documents to prove citizenship/immigration status, residency in Ontario and identity. For a detailed list of approved documents please consult the website listed above.

For children 15 years or younger, you need to apply for their health coverage. For your convenience, you canapply for their health coverage at the same time you apply for your own. The child/ren do not have to go with you because they will not have a photo or signature on their card. You may also register to become an organ or tissue donor when applying for an OHIP card.

King’s Crossing at the 401 and Division St. is a growing area of shopping and restaurants including outlet stores.
