At the Hall for Cornwall in Truro there’s powerful drama in a new adaptation of my favorite book ever, John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath and vibrant dance in the internationally renowned Jasmin Vardimon Company’s retrospective show Yesterday. There’re musical treats too in the form of the hilarious Kevin Bloody Wilson as well as Rock and Roll Christmas hits with That’ll Be The Day. And while you’re in the festive mood make sure you see this year’s pantomime at the Hall, Jack and the Beanstalk.

The Acorn Arts Centre in Penzance has three musical shows this season; a live performance of Jame Stone and Mansa Sissoko’s groundbreaking new album Africa to Appalachia, Latin influenced melodies by Los Desterrados and a mixture of stories and song from the frozen north in Jonglaresa’s Four Thousand Winters. Also showing is a new one man version of Dylan Thomas’ classic Under Milk Wood and some unique tomfoolery in Bash Street Theatre’s Silent Movie.

If you can’t make it to Penzance for that one don’t worry because The Tolman Centre in Constantine is also showing Silent Movie this December. They also have the ever popular Miracle Theatre Company’s brand new sequel to a classic fairy-tale, The Revenge of Rumplestiltskin.

There are lots of shows coming to a town or village near you with the help of Carn to Cove. There’s plenty of drama and comedy still to be seen this year. There’s Superstition Mountain, O-region’s tale of three Cornish brothers’ quest to America to save their debt-ridden business, Oh Mary, Bec Appleby’s one woman show about Cornish Highway-woman Mary Bryant, beautifully crafted puppets in Oshima and the Big Sea, a tale for big kids and little kids alike, a mixture of drama, dance, song and animated film in the English Touring Opera’s In The Belly Of The Horse, yet more opportunities to see Bash Street Theatre’s Silent Movie and Miracle’s The Revenge of Rumplestiltskin and dark comedy in Cube Theatre’s take on Jon Welsh’s haunting The Uninvited. Music isn’t lacking either in the run up to the New Year. Offering free tickets are Glastonbury regulars 3 Daft Monkeys with a melee of musical styles, swing, blues and gospel classics by the Louise Parker Quartet, acoustic veteran Gordan Giltrap, the aptly titled Poetry and Music by Louis de Bernieres and Ilone Antonius Jones, King Villa’s glamorous and humorous 30’, 40’s, and 50’s song and dance revue, Swingers in Suspenders, the beautiful vocals of singer/songwriter Lucinda Drayton and the Village Band’s jazz and bebop show The Battle of the Classic Trifle.

Hope you all see as many of these as you can. Have a great Christmas and New Year and we’ll have more free stuff for you in January.
