Warm Up: Create a nametagFold the paper HOT DOG STYLE to create your nametag. In each corner, draw a symbol or write a word

*You may decorate your nametag when you are finished!*
Class Meeting:
Each day after our warm up we will have a class meeting. There will be a question/discussion topic for each meeting.
Meeting procedures:1. Raise your hand if you would like to speak, I will throw you the fish2. Speak clearly3. Listen respectfully4. Look at the person who is talking5. Offer thoughtful questions or respectful comments

Signal for Quiet
There will be times in class when I need everyone’s attention. I will hit the chime when I need your attention. When you hear the
chime I expect you to be:
1. Quiet 2. Sitting still3. Looking at me
Break Spot
There may be times during class when I ask you to take a break.
The break spot is for someone who has made a mistake, broken a rule, or simply needs a few minutes to collet
his/herself. It is NOT a punishment!
If you are sent to the break spot, you will have time to think about:
• Why am I here?• What should I do differently when I return?
Once you have gathered your thoughts you will be welcomed back into the group.
Bathroom Procedure:
It is important for you to be in class the entire time.
If you must leave to go to the bathroom, give me the bathroom signal. I will either ask you to wait or tell you to go.
Best times to go to the bathroom:• Group work time• Individual work time
Worst time to go to the bathroom:• Whole group instruction
Pencils:
You are expected to bring a pencil to class. If you do not have one, take one from the “sharpened” cup. At the end of class, return it to either the “sharpened” or
“unsharpened” cup.
Best times to sharpen your pencil:• Warm Ups
• Individual work time• Group work time
Worst times to sharpen your pencil:• During a lesson/whole group activities
• When the teacher is talking• When a student is talking to the class
Cell Phones:
Leave your cell phones in your lockers—if we use technology I will let you know ahead of time!
When the teacher or a student is talking:

What is the purpose of the interactive notebooks?
Our interactive notebooks will give you a place to learn history and illustrate your comprehension in creative ways. Our interactive
notebooks will be used for class notes as well as for other activities where you will be asked to express your own ideas and to process
the information
What materials am I required to bring?
Spiral notebook: 150 pages or more!

How will my notebook be graded?
Notebook assignments will be graded at the end of each grading period. Points will be earned for completed work. All class notes and notebook assignments should be included even for the days
when you were absent. An important part of your notebook is its VISUAL appearance. Your notebook is a reflection of you and your
learning. It needs to be neat and well organized. Your artistic, creative touch should be visible throughout the notebook. Keep in mind that your notebook will be a significant part of your history grade each quarter. Put effort into it and you will be rewarded!
What happens if I am absent?
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain assignments from the class website or the teacher. All notebook pages will be in
the crate near my desk
Homework Tonight:
Bring “Interactive Notebook Guidelines” home, share with parents, bring back signed!
BINGO:Walk around the classroom, find people who have done
things in the squares and have them sign/initial your paper.

We will play one round at a time, then move on to the next. The first person to show me their board is the winner! I will announce the winner and we will move on to the next round!
What is your biggest fear?
On the small square of paper, write down your biggest fear or concern about middle school. Raise your hand when you are
finished and I will collect your square
Packing up procedure:
1. Clean up area (look inside, under on top of desk)2. Gather materials and stack neatly on desk
