• To familiarize with the modules of ArcGIS 10 desktop

spatial analysis, and produce maps.• ArcGIS Engine– Components for GIS developers to make customized

desktop applications.• ArcGIS Server– Tools for GIS professionals to publish geospatial data on

the Internet. Components for GIS developers to make web-based applications.

• We only use ArcGIS desktop in this class

• Map Requirements– Including all map elements (title, North Arrow,

legend, scale bar) – Following the basic principles of cartography (See

the principles on the instruction material).

• Read the instruction material carefully before doing the lab.

• Do NOT use space in the file or folder names– Use “yingjiehu” instead of “yingjie hu”. If you

really want to separate the words in your folder name, you can use “yingjie_hu”.
