TO PRAISE GOD

Opening Prayer

*Call to Worship

Leader: Come, all who need help!

People: Our help comes from God, the one who made heaven and earth.

Leader: Come, all who desire blessing!

People: Our blessing comes from God, the God of Abraham, the God of the ages.

Leader: Come, all who long for salvation!

People: Our salvation comes from Jesus Christ, the one sent by God to save the world.

*Hymn “God is Calling Through the Whisper” (printed on back)

TO CONFESS

*Prayer of Confession

God of salvation, you shower our lives and our world with love, yet we too often turn away from your blessing. It is just so easy to complain! There are little annoyances each day, but they pile up into a mountainous burden that becomes a curse on our lives. Free us from our unwise choices, O God. When we are distracted and confused, redirect our attention to the abundant opportunities to experience your love. During this Lenten journey, focus our hearts on you that we may choose the blessing of salvation offered us each day through Jesus Christ, in whom we pray. Amen.

*Silent Prayers of Confession

*Declaration of Forgiveness

*Passing the Peace

Minister: May the peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you.

(*Those who are able are invited to stand.)

20 Q. Are all people then saved through Christ just as they were lost through Adam?

Page 4: Welcome to First Presbyterian Church, Sapulpafiles.constantcontact.com/452ef60f501/48ea3164-3270-4ca4...Welcome to First Presbyterian Church, Sapulpa Order of Worship Sunday, March

A. No. Only those are saved who through true faith are grafted into Christ and accept all his benefits. (John 1:12; 3:36; Isa. 53:11, Ps. 2:11[–12]; Rom. 11:17, 19; Heb. 4:2; 10:39)

21 Q. What is true faith?

A. True faith is not only a sure knowledge by which I hold as true all that God has revealed to us in Scripture; it is also a wholehearted trust, which the Holy Spirit creates in me by the gospel, that God has freely granted, not only to others but to me also, forgiveness of sins, eternal righteousness, and salvation. These are gifts of sheer grace, granted solely by Christ’s merit. (Heb. 11:1, 3; James 2:19; Rom. 4:16[–25]; James 1:6; Rom. 5:1; Rom. 10[:9–10]; 2 Cor. 4[:6, 13]; Eph. 2[:8, 18]; Matt. 16:17; John 3:[5–]13; Gal. 5:22; Phil. 1:29; 4. Rom. 1:16; 10:17; Heb. 2[:9–11]; Rom. 1[:16];Heb. 10:38; Hab. 2:4; Matt. 9:2; Eph. 2:7–9; Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2[:8]; Rom. 3:24–25; Gal. 2:16)

22 Q. What then must a Christian believe?

A. All that is promised us in the gospel, a summary of which is taught us in the articles of our universal and undisputed Christian faith.

23 Q. What are these articles?

A. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Communion Prayer (unison)

Holy God, we thank you, we praise you, we glorify you, for you have fed us with your Word and filled us with your Spirit.Send us out to show and tell the love of Jesus Christ to a hungry, thirsty world; we pray this in the name of Christ our Lord, who taught us to pray using these words ….Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
