MEET THE TEACHER

I am a native of Cherokee County!

*

.I live in the Macedonia community. I attended Macedonia Elementary, Creekland

Middle, and graduated from Creekview High School in 2010. I have a cat named

Artie, and my parents have two Yorkies! My family loves the Braves and the

Crimson Tide! I am getting married next October!! My fiancé’s name is Manny,

and he is a fireman.

I graduated from the University of North Georgia in May of 2014. This is my

second year teaching.

I have a duel degree in Early Childhood and Special Education with a Reading

Endorsement.

I also have much training with the technology offered to today’s classrooms.

THINGS FOR PARENTS TO SIGN

Reading/Homework Red folder- comes home every day! It is due back every day! You may review and correct answers with your child after they have completed the work independently. Please make sure you sign the daily reading log and fluency every day. Your child should be reading everyday at home for at least 10 minutes.

Agenda- look for important notes or announcements daily stapled or paper clipped on to the daily page. Please sign the agenda daily.

Other: Occasionally, some papers will be stamped for parent’s signature. These need to be returned.

Friday Folder: Please review your child’s work that comes home in the Friday folder. If papers need to be signed please review them, sign and return in the red folder the next school day.

READING GRADING SCALE

here has been a change from last year. This year, we

have created a weighted Reading grading scale: • 25%- F&P: O-95, S- 85, N-75, U-65• 25%- Dolch Words• 25%- Storia Comprehension assessments on their

Instructional Reading level and ReadWorks passages.

ATTENDANCE/TRANSPORTATION

Try to be at school everyday! Send in a written excuse for all absences. Please do not write excuses in the agenda.

Tardy students can sign in through the front office. Note: Try to be in the room as close to 7:30 as possible to allow student enough time to complete morning assignments.

Please have all transportation changes in writing with a separate note and noted on transportation log. Do not send transportation changes by e-mail. If an emergency arises during the day, please call the office and they will let me know of the change 770-345-5035.

No office checkouts between 1:45-2:25.

BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT

S

tudents are encouraged by earning tickets and points for

their assigned STEM house.

S

tudents are able to monitor behavior during the day with

a pulling sticks system. If your child pulls a stick, then

he/she will have a note written in the agenda. *No news is

good news!

Emergency Information If your address or phone

number(s) change throughout the year, please update me so we can have current information on file.

In the event that school closes early, we will send your child home according to the Emergency Info. Sheet filled out at the beginning of the year.

Students will use the Teach 21 classroom laptop lab (shared among pod) and classroom computers throughout the week.

“Storia” is also available to our school this year!

COMPUTERS

“Type 2 Learn” and “Big Brainz” will also be used during center rotations.

Internet usage is closely monitored and very limited in second grade.
