How to Provide Balanced Literacy?• Supported Reading: Guided Reading, Mini-Lessons-

Comprehension Work (whole class, small group, peers), Time for Kids Magazines, Interactive Read Aloud.

• Writing: Writer’s Workshop, Interactive Writing, Journaling and Reflections, Writer’s Notebooks in the content areas.

• Words Their Way: A developmental spelling, phonics, and vocabulary program. Students are actively constructing their own knowledge of spelling patterns. Students learn features by completing activities such as word sorting, word hunts, games and drawing and labeling. Students work individually, with partners, and in small groups to encourage cooperative learning and individual responsibility.

• Independent Reading: Reader’s Workshop, Independent Reading/Self-selected, Individual & Small Group Conferences
