Dear Parents and Carers, This week many of you and your children joined us for the school’s Sixth Form Open Evening. Following on from the Year 11 Taster Day the Open Evening gave guests the chance to gain a greater insight into the opportunities available at Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre. I believe that there are many benefits to continuing an education at a school Sixth Form. Firstly, teachers and staff already know your child and are invested in their development and keen to support and help them reach their goals. Students are part of a community, have a voice within the school and a real opportunity to make their mark. Then there are the obvious benefits to smaller class sizes, dedicated mentors, who have often known your child for a number of years, and an additional needs support team. This year Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre achieved its best exam results to date; a 99% pass rate at A Level and an average BTEC at Distinction Level. With a dedicated programme of UCAS support, a successful alternative pathways programme for apprenticeships and careers guidance staff can help students progress to the next stage of their lives, whatever their chosen path may be. I hope that you will agree that all of these elements make Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre an ideal place for your child to continue their education. Elsewhere this week the school has hosted a Primary Schools athletics tournament, our Dance Academy students have enjoyed success at a local festival and our green fingered pupils continue to work hard at the school’s Gardening Club. Read more about all of these activities in the articles below. Attached to the E-Letter you will find a guide to staying safe online throughout the festive season as well as a leaflet highlighting the YMCA’s Free Family Healthy Nutrition & Activity Programme. The school has also signed up to BBC News Schools Report. This is an opportunity for keen journalists to have their written and broadcasted work published to a real audience.
