Reception doors are opened at 8.50am.

Your child will enter the EYFS area and complete some tasks, which include

Putting away their belongings (book bag, water bottle, lunch box) in the

cloakroom and classroom

Swapping / choosing a new reading book

In the first half term, your child will need some help learning these tasks so

you are very welcome to come in and help them.

The doors will remain open until 9.10am initially, at which time parents will

need to leave the EYFS area and exit via the EYFS gate.

After half term (October), we will expect children to be able to do these jobs

on their own. We would like to ask for your support in encouraging your child

to be independent and come in on their own, saying goodbye to you before

they enter the building.

After half term, the reception doors will be shut at 9am.

If your child looks ready and capable to complete morning tasks independently

before the half term break, please do encourage them to do so.

Throughout the course of your child’s day at school, adults will be spending time developing your child’s learning.

This may be by

leading small group focus tasks

Joining in with games being played

Running 1:1 interventions

Setting up new and exciting enhancements around the room.

Our practitioners are constantly watching, observing and recording what the children are doing to capture moments in their learning that show evidence of progress against the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

These observations will be uploaded on to an virtual platform which all parents will be able to access through use of an App on a tablet device or mobile phone

We also visit the woods weekly as part of a school wide

aim to provide outdoor learning opportunities within our

Treasure Wood and Dolphin Den.

There will be opportunities to visit the ICT suite and use

the iPads throughout the year.

We arrange for school trips to take place and we love to

have visitors in e.g. the fire service with their fire

engine in the autumn term

Educating your child is a joint responsibility and we believe it is vital to

involve you as parents as much as possible in your child’s time whilst at

nursery. The following are just some of the ways that we involve you in

what is happening here at Brookburn

Page 17: Welcome to Brookburn Primary School · •PTA •Woodland and allotment Volunteers •Weekly newsletters Educating your child is a joint responsibility and we believe it is vital

Toilet independently

Count to 10

On Friday 20th September, from 9.15am, we will be holding a

parents’ meeting for our reception parents to tell you all about

phonics, reading, and how you can help your child with these

areas of their learning.

Please make a note of this date – it would be great to see as

many of you there as possible. Parents who have attended this

event previously have felt it to be very worthwhile!

At the end of the first half term, we would like to invite parents in for a stay and

play session.

This will take place on Tuesday 15th October at 2.30pm onwards.

This will give you an opportunity to come and see how well your child has

settled and how much they have already learned in just half a term with us.

When your child starts Reception, you will be able to

download the ParentMail app which is a communication

platform whereby letters, notifications and information from

school gets pushed out to your phone.

You will be able to use this app to book parents’ evening

appointments.

We also have a cashless payment system called parent

pay, enabling you to pay for any trips and give permissions

without needing to do this via old school envelopes and

cash.

We send most of our correspondence by text or email.
