ACT IN FAITH, ACT ON FAITH

In what ways are you isolated, hurting, or broken? Does someone else judge you unfairly? Are there circumstances that are beyond your control that overwhelm you or dictate the way you live your life? The Lord waits for your call, your cry in faith. Do you know the healing, compassionate, caring love of God for you, in prayer, sacraments, or the attention of others? Witness to the powerful love of God through your attitudes and words, your actions and interactions with others. Imitate Christ. Show mercy to others. Be a healing presence when relationships are torn apart. Have you encountered the love of God in your life? Give witness to this love at home, work, parish, and the world. Give glory to God as you act on faith. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS

As we celebrate communion during the Jubilee Year of the Eucharist, let us remember Christ's sacrifice for our salvation. In January 1971, Father Carl J. Pfeifer, S.J. wrote an article for the Florida Catholic Newspaper titled, " Eucharist is sacrifice for all men." Here is an excerpt: The Sacrament of the Eucharist was seen by the first Christians as the very heart of the Church. Indeed, the Church itself is actualized in the breaking of the bread. The early writers of the Church claimed that "Eucharistia facit ecclesiam," (the Eucharist creates the Church). The reason is simple: this sacrament contains the very source of salvation, Christ, the crucified and risen Lord by whom alone the Church comes into existence. The word "Eucharist" comes from the Greek, "eucharistein," which means to give thanks. In the Eucharist, we give thanks for the most precious of all possible gifts, Jesus. It is Christ Himself who is made present in the action and words of the sacrificial meal called the Eucharist.

NUESTRO LLAMADO CATOLICO

Imita a Cristo.

(t) Feeding the Body of Christ Stacey Brown examines a selection of fruits and vege-tables before placing her daughter's favorites into her cart. Struggling to put food on the table, Brown is grate-ful for the new Mission Market at Catholic Charities of Central Florida where she can pick healthy food that her family will love. "When you're on a budget in a single-family home, it's tough," said Brown. "This is amazing!" Through gifts to Our Catholic Appeal, Catholic Charities helps more than 69,000 people each year with food, housing, healthcare, and adoption services. Working together with parishes and community partners, the or-ganization provides fresh food and non-perishables to those who do not know where they will get their next meal. In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma last year, Catholic Charities was able to quickly mobilize emer-gency food and water to provide relief to those without power and recovering from the storm. "Through that Eucharistic presence in us as Catholics, we have that opportunity to take food and share with those in need," said Gary Tester, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Central Florida. "We not only as-sure them of another meal, but also that they're cared for in every way possible."
