The New Media Technologies pathway could possibly be more accurately called the “Adobe Multimedia Web Design” pathway, because that is what the students learn to do during their three years of enrollment.  In the first year, they take the “New Media and Digital Imaging Fundamentals” course, which is a course in Adobe Photoshop with an emphasis on attaining an Adobe Certified Associate certification in Visual Communication with Photoshop.  This certification supports careers in the photography, graphic design and web design industries.  In the second year, students are enrolled in “Digital Video and Sound Fundamentals,” pursuing the Adobe Certified Associate in Video Communication with Adobe Flash.  They are learning to create animations, as well as learning to capture and edit digital video.

Flash professionals are in demand in the video gaming, applications development, and entertainment and animation career fields.  In the final year of the pathway, our young professionals learn “Web Design” and work toward the ACA in Web Communication with Adobe Dreamweaver, which is a web design software application.  They learn to design and host web sites; in addition, they take the skills that they learned in the first two years of the program in Photoshop and Flash, and learn how to translate those to the World Wide Web and to a global audience.  Like all the pathways in BETA, the New Media Technologies pathway is poised to equip its students with both technology and soft skills to compete in today’s cutting edge industries – and our students leave us with credits that articulate to college programs, industry certifications, and skills that they will use throughout their lives in the real-world workplace.
