Foundation week overview and key information Welcome! A warm welcome to all of our families! We were so excited to open the gates for the start of the school year on Monday and our first week has been amazing. It has been wonderful to see so many smiling faces in the morning, during learning and play times as well as at the end of the school day. A huge amount of hard work and time has been invested in the lead up to this week to ensure our children have the very best opportunities for success – from architectural design, selecting furniture, resources and equipment to the rigorous selection of our Foundation team of staff. A huge thank you to all of my team for ensuring our first week was such a success and a special thanks to my administration team who worked tirelessly over the holidays with me to make sure we were able to begin building brighter futures together with our families from the very first day of school. It is truly an honour to lead our new school which will become renowned for its commitment in providing a strong sense of belonging and the opportunity for every child, every day to find joy, be challenged and experience success. Communication is a priority at Beenyup Primary and we are in the process of setting up Connect, which will be our primary communication tool with families. We are also in the process of building our website which will become another means of accessing information about our school. Over the next week, you will receive an invitation to a parent meeting from your child’s classroom teacher to learn more about routines, whole school approaches, what your child will be learning about as well as how you can help your child at home. On the following page is some key information about Beenyup Primary; however, for a comprehensive A-Z guide, please pop into the Administration office and grab a copy of our Parent Information Guide. Whilst we are aware that we are not the only school experiencing temporary uniform polo stock shortages, I was so pleased to hear that some of our wonderful families have supported one another by lending a uniform shirt to others so that the majority of our children started the school year with a school polo. This highlights just how caring our school community is and it is only Week 1! Congratulations on being part of the Beenyup Primary School’s community in its foundation year. My team and I are looking forward to getting to know everyone and working in partnership to build brighter futures together for our children. Kind regards Rebecca Instance Principal 7 February 2020

Morning routine As part of our whole school morning routine, if children arrive with or without their parents, between 8.00 – 8.15am they need to place their bag on the bag rack next to their classroom and then they must go to the library. The playgrounds are out of bounds during this time for all children. At 8.15am classrooms open so that children have the opportunity to organise themselves so they are ready for learning. Each class has a morning message board which will have a new message every day to read with your child before entering the class. This is part of our Morning Meeting. 8.30am - Morning Meeting This is a daily routine that is established in the first few weeks of school. Each Morning Meeting runs for approximately twenty to thirty minutes and sets the tone for the day ahead. It provides opportunities for all members of the class to greet one another, to be greeted by others, to listen, to respond and to look forward to the events of the day.

There are four components of a successful morning meeting, these being:

    1) Greeting – children and adults greet one another by name, this often includes handshakes, high fives, clapping, singing, etc. 2) Sharing – students are given the opportunity to share something of interest to the class and to respond to one another. This is a great opportunity to practice attentive listening and communication skills. 3) Group Activity – this is a whole class activity that is short in length but provides opportunities for active participation. 4) Morning Message – developing language skills through the sharing of the Morning Message Board and discussion of the upcoming events.
