stories, essays, plays and novels

• Write• types of writing (narrative, persuasive (APA

format), expository, and informative)

• Analyze & Interpret Literature• Literary analysis focusing on literary elements

and the text as support

Novels: Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, O’Brien’s The Things They Carried, Weisel’s Night

Novellas: Kafka’s Metamorphosis, Camus’ The Stranger and more

Play: Shakespeare’s Hamlet

Poetry: sonnets, ballads, haikus, etc.

*and many short stories…

Article of the Week

• Students will receive a non-fiction article that ranges from educational and political topics to current events. Students have to read the article, underline main points, circle two “difficult” words and define, and write a 4 sentence reflection.

• 15 pts and given out the first day of the week… due at the end of the week

Articles are posted on website at the start of the week!

Grading Procedures

• Assessments (Tests, Essays, Projects, etc)- 50%

• Quizzes (Plot/Reading/Vocab, Rough Drafts)- 25%

• Classwork (Homework & Classwork – Articles of the Week) – 25%

Late Policy: For every day late -10% up to 3 days late and then cannot be accepted
