Homework: Please get your materials today and bring them tomorrow for homework points.

“Last One Standing”

Objective: Start getting to know names and faces

1. Take a post-it note. Write your name on the upper right hand corner.

2. List a broad category of people you belong to, e.g. gender, ethnicity, grade in school, city in which you live, something everyone’s probably done, etc.

3. List an interest, hobby, or experience you have that other people in the room might have that is a little more specific, e.g. love biking, drawing, etc.

4. List something uniquely specific to you. This thing could only describe you, no one else, e.g. tattoo behind left ear, owns 47 pairs of sneakers, has a pet iguana named Harry, etc.

Example: Mr. Rivera

Plays or played an instrument (more specific, but other people might do this, too)

Born in Manila, Philippines, but grew up in San Jose, California (only applies to me, I think )

Speaks enough Italian to get by (broad--many people may do this)

Personal Museum AssignmentObjectives: To give the class a conceptual overview

of who you are so that we can know you better and appreciate your history

To get to know one another To practice thinking about our lives and

literature symbolically

Homework due Wednesday

1. Read, study, and sign (a parent or guardian and you) Course Information Sheet. Quiz tomorrow. Bring class materials tomorrow.

2. Read and study Pico Iyer’s “Nowhere Man.” Quiz tomorrow.
