The Club has been providing an array of services and accommodations since 1989. We proudly offer Members a facility with excellent Guest Rooms, Fine Dining, Banquet Space, Special Events, a Health & Fitness Center, and other services. In 2014, The Club was awarded Five Star Platinum Club Status. The Platinum Clubs® of America is the most respected recognition of excellence in the industry.

We are all excited to meet you during your visits to The Club, including our New Member receptions, at events held at our reciprocal clubs, or at one of our many club program events. We encourage you to get involved and connect with Club staff and committee volunteers to share your feedback and ideas.

Access the Private Side of the Website:

Click “Members” at the top right on the site and when prompted, type in your Username and Password.

1. Your username has been set to your member number (e.g.12345, in a total of eight digits).

2. Your initial password is your last name.

3. The first time you enter the site, you will be required to reset your password to one of your choosing. After selecting your new password, you will be re-directed to the login page, where you can log in with your username and your new password.

Where can I stay connected?

Members and their guests are welcome to use their phones and personal devices for texting, emailing, and silent usage in any space of The Club, but audible cell usage and phone calls are limited to the designated areas. Members and guests should set cell phones and similar devices to silent/vibrate mode when visiting The Club. Telephone calls are permitted in the Business Center and phone vestibule on the first floor, in the stairwells, and other private areas of The Club. Telephone calls are not permitted in any public space in The Club, which includes the Lobby, dining rooms, Andrew Dickson White Room, and the Health & Fitness Center.

The Cornell Club-New York welcomes you to our gracious and comfortable 14-story clubhouse in the heart of Manhattan. The following pages will provide an overview of The Club and all we have to offer. Eager to see more? Take a virtual tour of The Club-Link to Google 360 tour.

1st Floor: Lobby, Business Center, and Big Red Tap & Grill

Whether you stay for a few hours or a few days, you will find The Club is the ideal place for connecting with other alumni, rekindling old friendships, and meeting new people. Unwind in the lobby where complimentary coffee and tea are served daily.

Located on the first floor, the Business Center has individual work spaces, a small conference table, computer access, WIFI, and printers. Decorated with college memorabilia, the Big Red Tap & Grill is perfect for informal lunches, dinners, and snacks Monday through Saturday. Stop in for an impromptu lunch or dinner while shopping or meeting in Midtown, or as a quick break from the office. Drink specials and complimentary hors d’oeuvres for dining patrons are offered Monday through Friday, from 5pm to 7pm.

2nd Floor: Cayuga Dining Room and Cayuga Lounge

With a gourmet menu and premier service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Cayuga Room is the perfect choice for dining and entertaining in an elegant atmosphere. Executive Chef Michael Rizzo and his team combine the latest culinary trends with fresh foods and seasonal traditions to create exciting menus. The extensive wine list includes New York State as well as Old and New World wines. Special themed dinners (Lobster Night and Steak Night) are also hosted in the Cayuga Room. The Cayuga Lounge, located in the back of the 2nd floor, is an area for Members to have a libation during meal service, or read the newspaper and have a quiet place to relax during the day.

3rd Floor: A.D. White Room

The A.D. White Room is a restful sanctum that invites you to lean back and tune out the busy world outside. Peruse our collection of books highlighted by a selection of books from distinguished authors, professors, and business leaders that have participated in our ongoing speakers series. Notable works include Pulitzer Prize Winners Sheryl Wu Dunn (class year) and Nick Kristof, Steve Coll, and Nobel Prize Winner Joseph Stiglitz. Would you like to add your work to our collection? Members are invited to share their published works by providing our front desk staff with a copy of your work.

Step back in time and enjoy Cornell memorabilia including University Publications and year books dating back 100 years.

4th & 5th Floors: Meeting and Event Space

The Club offers the ultimate comfort for private dining, cocktail parties, celebrations, weddings, alumni functions, and business meetings. With five function rooms totaling more than 3,500 square feet, the facilities can accommodate events for four to 150 peo-ple. The Cascadilla Room and Beebe Lake Room are perfect for small, intimate gatherings; the Fall Creek Room and A.D. White Room are designed for mid-sized meetings; and the Ivy Room is excellent for large parties and events. The Club’s innovative culinary staff and creative event planners will design a menu tailored for your special occasion-from brunch to an elegant dinner for private parties or meetings.

6th Floor: Health & Fitness Center

Club Members may join the Health & Fitness Center on a quarterly basis or take advantage of its facilities on a daily basis. Overnight guests enjoy complimentary use of the Health & Fitness Center. Located on the sixth floor, the Health & Fitness Center offers a friendly at-mosphere with state-of-the-art equipment. Personal trainers, nutritional counselors, and massage therapists are available by appointment. Fully-equipped locker rooms include showers, hair dryers, and other amenities. Quarterly fitness members also have access to off-site squash courts, pilates and yoga classes.

7th-15th Floors: Overnight Guest Rooms

Each of the 48 overnight Guest Rooms (studio, twin, full, queen, king, special) offers many comforts and services, including flat-screen Smartcube televisions, WIFI, and laundry/ valet service. Overnight guests begin their day with a complimentary breakfast buffet in the Cayuga Room, and complimentary use of the Health & Fitness Center.

Programs

The Cornell Club-New York strives to continue the learning and fun that you experienced on campus with a variety of programs and events to perk your interest throughout the year! Each year, Club staff and our dedicated Program Committee plan over 100 events for Members and their guests. In addition, Members have the opportunity to attend Inter-Club events to further expand your network and opportunities! All Members are encouraged to share ideas for engaging programs, and the Program Committee welcomes new volunteers. To learn more about volunteering, please contact Raechel at [email protected].

Concierge Services

Our Program Department can help you procure hard to get theater tickets. We also offer tickets to annual events such as the US Open, Cornell Hockey at Madison Square Garden, and group theater and museum tour outings.

• Members are asked to make reservations for Club programs and events.• Reservations may be cancelled, at no charge, if:• Cancellation is received two business days prior to the event.• The event does not include a ticket purchased by The Club.• Fees associated with ticketed events (e.g., US Open, sports, concerts, theater, museum, and walking tours) are non-refundable.• Reservations for special holiday meals are non-refundable if cancellation is past deadline or a Member does not honor the reservation.• Cancellations or no-shows for Interclub events held at other clubs are subject to the host clubs cancellation policy. The Cornell Club-New York will not incur charges for a Member. NOTE: Any exceptions to program or event cancellation policy will be noted in the event description in the newsletter and on the programs webpage.

How Reciprocal Club Privileges Work

• A letter of introduction is required to visit reciprocal clubs. • Members are encouraged to log on to the private side of the website to send a letter of introduction.• The Cornell Club-New York will provide the introductory letter.• It is up to the Member to make arrangements with the reciprocal club prior to requesting the mandatory letter of introduction.• Letters of introduction cannot be sent more than 30 days prior to your intended arrival date at a reciprocal club.

We offer several types of membership for fellow alumni, friends, family, and business colleagues, and we would be happy to send the potential Member an invitation to join The Club. If he or she decides to join, both you and the referred Member will each receive a $100 house credit applicable to Clubhouse facilities (excluding initiation fee and dues).

House Rules1. Hours of Operation:

• The Cornell Club-New York is open seven days a week from 7:00am to 11:00pm.• Entry is limited to registered guests after 11:00pm.

2. Guest Rooms:

• Reservations are honored in the order received.• Reservations are binding unless cancelled by 4:00pm the day prior to arrival.• Room rates are charged when cancellation is late or the reservation is not honored.• Guest rooms are rented to Members, their guests, and members of reciprocal clubs.• Members of reciprocal clubs must present a letter of introduction and membership card upon arrival.• Guests of members from reciprocal clubs must be accompanied by the reciprocal club member and must establish method of payment upon arrival.• Members are ultimately responsible for charges incurred by sponsored guests.• Check-in is 4:00pm and checkout is 12:00noon.• Guests who do not check out by 12:00noon are subject to additional charges.• All guest rooms are non-smoking—violations are subject to a fine.

3. Club Events:

• Members are asked to make reservations for Club events.• Reservations may be cancelled, at no charge, if 1) cancellation is received two business days before the event, and 2) the event does not include a ticket purchased by The Club.• Fees associated with ticketed events (e.g., concerts, theater, sports, and tours) are non-refundable.• Reservations for special holiday meals are non-refundable if cancellation is past deadline or a Member does not honor the reservation.

4. Dress Code:

• Appropriate dress is mandatory at all times in The Club.• Smart casual dress includes: collared shirts, slacks, blue jeans, sneakers, and knee-length shorts.• Not permitted: Tee shirts, athletic apparel, flip flops, torn/tattered jeans, and ball/casual caps.• Dining Rooms/Meeting Rooms/Business Center/Library: Smart casual attire is required at all times. Business attire is always welcome.• Health & Fitness Center: Appropriate sneakers, tee shirts, shorts, or sweats are the only acceptable gym attire.

5. Conduct:

• Members and guests are expected to follow Club rules, including by-laws and house rules.• Members may not use The Club address, telephone number, or logo on business stationery.• Members may not use The Club name in written communication with the press or the general public.• Information from the membership roster, including names, telephone numbers, and addresses, is for the exclusive use of The Club management. Others may not employ this information for any form of solicitation.• Members and guests may not bring food or beverages into The Club or arrange for deliveries.• Members are not permitted to photograph any area of the Clubhouse.• Members are expected to vouch for the conduct of their guests.• The General Manager or Manager-on-Duty is charged to notify Members and guests if they violate Club rules and/or engage in disorderly conduct.• The General Manager, Manager-on-Duty, or the supervisor of the area where a violation occurs is authorized to take appropriate action to monitor improper conduct in The Club. This includes ejection of Members and guests.• The General Manager or Manager-in-Charge will report violations to the House Committee and Board of Directors.

6. Payment:

• Cash payments for Club services are not permitted. Membership cards must be presented, and all charges must be signed for with signature on file and correct account number.

• There is a service charge levied on all food and beverage charges at an amount set by the Board of Directors. All charges are subject to New York State tax, currently 8.875%.

• Dues billing will be on a quarterly basis, unless annual billing is requested.

• The Club operates on a July 1 to June 30 fiscal year. Fiscal Quarters are defined as follows:

1st Quarter………..July 1 through September 30 2nd Quarter……..October 1 through December 31

3rd Quarter………..January 1 through March 31 4th Quarter………..April 1 through June 30

• After the first day of each month, statements will be mailed to Members showing charges owed to The Club. This amount is payable upon receipt and no later than the end of the month in which the bill is sent. Vouchers will not accompany bills. Please contact the accounting department if you do not receive your statement.

• When remitting payment, please indicate on your return statement the portion dedicated to house charges and to dues. Note your membership number on your check.

• The General Manager may, at his discretion, fix a limit on house charges for any individual Member or guest.

• A late payment fee for a delinquent balance will be levied after the end of the month that the bill is sent and each month thereafter until payment is made.

• Members whose accounts are 60 days past due and who have not made payment arrangements will be suspended. Suspension means that the Member will have no use of Club privileges until either the account is current or payment arrangements have been made.

• No suspended Member or former Member whose membership had been suspended for good cause shall be allowed to use The Club facilities or attend functions at The Club, whether or not he or she is escorted by a Member in good standing. A Member in good standing who knowingly escorts such a suspended Member may, at the discretion of the Board of Directors, be subject to sanction.

• Members may request, for an additional fee, signing privileges for spouses/partners. Members are responsible for the payment of all charges incurred by family members.

7. Resignation:

Request for resignation from The Club (and from the Health & Fitness Center) or change in membership status must be made in writing. A Member is responsible for dues through the quarter following written notification of request to resign.

8. Smoking (pipes and cigars included):

Smoking is not permitted anywhere in The Club

9. Business Papers, Equipment, Laptops, and Cellphones:

• The discreet display and/or use of business papers and hand-held computer instruments is permitted in the Lobby, Tap & Grill, and Library. Full use of business papers is confined to the Business Center and private meeting rooms.

• The display and use of computers and other business equipment (including audible pagers) is confined to the Lobby, Business Center, private meeting rooms, guest rooms, and telephone booths.

• Cellphones: Upon entering the Clubhouse, Members and guests should set cellphones and the like to silent/vibrate mode. Cellphone usage is permitted in the Business Center and phone vestibule on the first floor, in the stairwells, and other private areas of The Club. Cellphones are not permitted in any public space in The Club. This includes the Lobby, dining rooms, Library, and Fitness Center.

10. Checkroom:

• Members and their guests using public rooms are asked to check coats, shopping bags, and umbrellas in the first floor checkroom. These items should not be carried to dining rooms or the Library.

• The Club is not responsible for loss or damage to personal property.

• Closets on the fifth floor near meeting rooms may be used instead of the checkroom if your function is on that floor.

Newspapers, magazines, and books that belong to The Club are not to be cut, marked, or removed from the premises.

11. Reading Material:

With the exception of seeing-eye dogs, animals are not allowed in The Club.

12. Pets:

• Employees are not permitted to serve alcoholic beverages to anyone who appears to be intoxicated.• No one under the age of 21 is permitted to sit or stand at the bar in the Tap & Grill.• No one under the age of 21 will be served alcoholic beverages. Any member of the staff of The Club may request proof of age.

• Members and guests should not reprimand employees.• Complaints and suggestions in regard to service or Club operations should be submitted in writing to the General Manager or Chairman of the House Committee.

• Members and guests should not give money or gratuities to employees. A year-end holiday fund is available to Members for this purpose.

15. Gratuities:

• Guests without a Member host may use the dining facilities, Fitness Center, and meeting rooms if a guest card has been arranged in advance.• Members are responsible for charges incurred by guests.• Guests not accompanied by Members are limited to two visits per year.• Guests without a guest card must wait for Members in the Lobby.

125 years of membership, 25 years in our midtown Manhattan clubhouse.

1889

A small group of Alumni formed The Cornell Club of New York.

1900

The Club rented rooms at the Royalton Apartment Hotel on West 44th Street.

1900 – 1939

The Club moved from the Royalton Apartment Hotel to 65 Park Avenue and then to Madison Avenue at 38th Street.

1939

On its 50th anniversary, The Club moved uptown to the Hotel Barclay (now the InterContinental) at 48th Street.

1962

The Club moved further uptown to 50th Street at 3rd Avenue.

1982

The Club started searching for a permanent

home while temporarily relocating to first the Women’s National Headquarters and then to NYU’s Town Hall facility.

1985 – 1989

The Club found its current home at 6 East 44th Street in midtown Manhattan, between Fifth & Madison Avenues. Formerly the offices of the Chicago Pneumatic Tube Corporation, the building was a gift to Cornell University. After the University acquired the building in 1986, a three year renovation was undertaken. The firm of Gensler & Associates of San Francisco, CA completed the renovation.

1989

The Clubhouse opened its doors to Cornell Club Members on December 1st, 1989.

December 2009

The Club celebrated its 20th Anniversary at its current clubhouse.

December 2014

The Club celebrates its 25th Anniversary at its current clubhouse and recognition as a Five Star Club - A Platinum Club of America.
