Middle School GT Programs

*Students in Grade 6 are served through GT classes in ELA and Math *These classes are an hour and a half in length*These subjects are accelerated and taught with greater rigor, depth and complexity*Students should possess a sense of personal and social responsibility sufficient to keep up with the individual workload and to contribute meaningfully to group efforts

Page 3: Welcome to 6 th grade GT ELA and Math

Must maintain a final grade of C or above Score exemplary or met on PASS (most

recent available score) Entering the first stage of the GT program in

grade 6 does not automatically guarantee a continued placement in this program

If the student’s yearly average is a D or F, the student could be dropped from the program

GT Criteria

projects, creative thinking projects Some projects are major ones = test grade,

some projects are “mini” projects = quiz grade

Projects

Grading scale remains the same from 5th grade to 6th grade:

A= 100-93B= 92-85C= 84-77D= 76-70F= below 70

What changes from 5th to 6th is the level of work and intensity of work required of each student

This accelerated program covers 3 years of SC Curriculum within 2 years. So, by 8th grade your child will be getting high school credit for Math and ELA
