Attendance and Tardy Policy

We teach from bell to bell. Our day begins at 8:00. Your child is tardy at 8:01.Attendance Rules

All time out of school is recorded and summed for total days out per quarter. 5 or more total days per quarter or 30 days per year will require a visit by a school board employee.Notes or call-ins to report absences are imperative .

Excused absences will result in no academic penalty as long as missed work is made-up within 2 days. Unexcused absences will result in a zero for the work missed. If your child likes to socialize, please have him/her here at 7:30 so that he/she can chat while in the cafeteria.Science - If your child misses a hands-on activity or video clip due to absence, there will be no make-up. Paper pencil activities, classwork, note taking, etc. will need to be made up.

GradingExpectations are high for our 5th Graders. When a due date is given, work is

expected. If work is late, the student will lose one

letter grade for each day late. This policy is meant to promote fairness

among the students in a class and among the classes within the grade.

HomeworkHomework will be given nightly Monday - Friday. Long-term projects will overlap weekends.Check planner nightly and sign (mandatory).Check that your child has done the work

assigned.Missed homework = an X. An accumulation of 3

X’s in a quarter will result in a 3 on the report card for Homework and Follows Directions. This will keep your child off the Honor Roll.

Organizational Skills

These are skills necessary for life, for college, for high school, for middle school, and for 5th grade.

To help develop these skills: Students cannot put items in their desks. Students must keep their backpacks neat and

purged. Students must write in their planners daily.
