What we have been learning about Our Local Area .... We have been learning about our local area, Burnbank. We had visits from Bridie the Lollipop lady, Kevin the Postman, Andy the joiner and Andy the baker. We went to the post office to buy stamps and posted a letter to our own house with our very own addresses. Some children visited the Doctors’ surgery to see what was there and we got some posters for our very own surgery in the playroom. Other children took photographs of the local area and we then made our own local street using boxes in the playroom. We all learned how to make an emergency phone call using 999 and we also learned how to keep safe around medicines. It’s your birthday! Masterclass Programme

The third year of the Masterclass programme began on Thursday 23rd February. This programme enables children to develop knowledge and skill in a variety of areas. This year we have staff and parents delivering some classes as well as business partners. My thanks to all involved in this programme to enable children to have this unique learning experience. Classes this year include embroidery, illustrating, piano, baking, multisports (sport leadership), gymnastics, Tae-Kwon-Do, film trailers and arts and crafts. This is our Faith Sacrament of Confirmation Congratulations to 43 of our senior pupils who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Monday 20th February in St. Cuthbert’s church. It was a wonderful celebration of faith and I am sure parents and carers were equally as proud as the school staff. Many thanks to all who contributed to the success of this important step in the journey of faith of our young people. Sacrament of First Reconciliation

Primary 3 and Mrs Boyd have been working extremely hard on their preparation. Please ensure your child’s workbook is up to date. Further details will follow about arrangements for the service on Thursday16th March at 7pm.

Dog fouling

It has been brought to my attention that there is an issue with dog fouling outside the school fence. I have raised this with South Lanarkshire Council and they are addressing the matter. If anyone has information regarding this please speak to myself. Head Teacher’s Blog The blog is completed on a weekly basis, published on a Sunday. The blog gives information on aspects of learning from each class in our school. Please take time to read our blog and I would be delighted if you could post a comment. Homework Homework is an important part of the learning process for your child. It supports learning in class and acts as a form of communication to parents / carers about pupil progress. Many thanks to families who provide invaluable support to their children during the homework process. Sainsbury’s We are now collecting Active Kids vouchers. Please hand into the school. Please remember …. PE kits on PE days. Check your child’s head regularly for head lice! Check soft shoes are in a good state of repair!

WORLD BOOK DAY

Primary 4, under the

guidance of Mrs Hall,

organised a super week of events for World Book

day.

The children participated in Drop Everything And Read times and enjoyed dressing as their favourite character. We welcomed a number of family members and Mrs McLaren, QIO for Literacy and English from SLC, to read their favourite books to us. It was fantastic to see so many pupils and adults participating in reading activities dur-ing the week. We hope this love for reading continues at home. The book sale also raised £185.50 to begin our Lenten Fundraising.
