The course focuses on reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing across the curriculum with emphasis on the following:
● Strategies to help improve reading and writing skills using the workshop model while preparing for the Parcc 8 assessment and High School.
Thematic approach to literature
Variety of genres including realistic fiction, nonfiction, poetry, dramatic short stories and plays
Emphasis on vocabulary development, Parcc 8 preparation, Research assignments, original story creations and poems
● Literacy is a developmental process that involves reading and writing in unison on a grand scale:
Authentic literacy experiences will be engaging in a real way
Stages of the writing process will be modeled and demonstrated for successful outcomes.
Course Description
● Students in ELA Honors will synthesize information and comprehend more complex texts in reading. Additionally, students will be exposed to varied activities and means of instruction that will emphasize high level thinking skills in order for students to better analyze, synthesize, and evaluate.

Within each unit students will be required to complete a research assignment on varying levels, work on vocabulary, read independently, and respond to different styles of writing prompts such as but not limited to short constructed response, essays and poems.

• Individual make-ups are only permitted if you are absent
• There are no make-ups for failed tests

• A binder with sections (just make sure you have lots of paper).
• One folder
• Pens and pencils
• Erasers/correction fluid

• Post-it notes
• A pencil case where you can keep all your supplies that way you will always be prepared.
