According to Cinda King, I have
attended every Women's Retreat but one.
I certainly don't doubt her excellent
record-keeping but it was hard for me to
believe. No, I can't recall details of them
all but I do know the common thread that
runs through each one - the binding to-
gether of women across all generations.
One of my favorite memories is of
sitting with Dorothy Huffman and some
other wonderful senior ladies after our
evening session at one of our retreats in
Berea. Several of us talked and shared
about our lives and our faith. Where else
would I have ever had that opportunity to
sit with these wise women and learn
from them? What blessings I would have
missed had I decided to stay home that
year!
My friends and I are becoming the
next generation of Elizabeth Baxters,
Jessie Rae Meadows, Margaret DeWitts,
Ruth Hustads, and Dorothy Huffmans,
just to name a few of the precious
women who have modeled Christ for me.
What a daunting responsibility! But I
belong to a faith family that embraces me
as I grow, falter, serve, and mature in my
relationship with Jesus Christ. It is my
responsibility to model that for others.
Yes, I understand that many obstacles
lie in the way of leaving town for a
weekend. However, I know that the time
we spend together at Wooded Glen will
impact our lives, provide rest for our
weary souls, and offer opportunities to
strengthen existing bonds and to form
new ones.

Thank You
Dear Faith Family,
A big thank you to everyone
who helped in any way to make the
recent HUGG activities happen:
caroling, communion, and Valen-
tine’s Day gift bags. I am also
thankful for the two volunteers,
Richard Flowers and Terry Wilder,
for their new leadership to the
HUGG Ministry. It helps us to feel
that we are still a part of SMBC.
Gratefully, Marie Wessinger
