    Dear Students,

I am honored to be your English writing teacher. As you know, Hankey is working toward

IB Certification, and it is an exciting time to be an early-adolescent on campus. The IB

infused curriculum will sponsor thinkers, learners, and compassionate students who

question, name and claim their world. We will be working, in our microcosm classroom,

to make the world a more just, verdant, and peaceful world. And well have some fun.

This is a class designed to prepare you for high school and life. We will be writing

literary analysis, journals, personal narratives, poetry, and other invigorating pieces.

This course emphasizes the following: expository and creative writing, oral

communication, grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary development, and variouscreative aspects of the arts.

To prepare yourself for academic success, I encourage you to organize. All you need is:

    College-ruled paper

    Pencils

Pens (at least 1 red and 1 black/blue/purple/green)

    Highlighters (yellow, green, and blue)

One Notebook for Journaling*Note: Final drafts of writing assignments must be typed. Please devise a strategyto type and print your assignments before their due date.

Course Guidelines:Plagiarism is copying work from another source and submitting it as ones own. This includes, but is not limited to:

copying another students work (orallowing a student to copy your work) changing words or the order of words from another source and submitting them as your own submitting work written by college students, former students, tutors, friends, etc.

Students are encouraged to discuss their responses to assigned works with peers, but all written workproduced as a result of these discussions must be generated independently(see school website forfurther details).

Tardiness is strictly enforced. Students are allowed 1 free tardy. 2nd and 3rd tardies warrant discipline(including detention). 4th tardy warrants an office referral. Any class work missed due to a tardy will not beeligible for makeup.
