“LIMITS OF MY LANGUAGE ARE THE LIMITS OF MY MIND. ALL I KNOW IS WHAT I HAVE WORDS FOR.” -Ludwig

Our goal is not only to read…but to read for understanding. “No longer shall we canvas 5 miles of text, but rather

dive 5 miles deep and explore every word, comma, and idea.”

We shall not simply memorize information, but retain that information and know how to think about our thinking. “I think, therefore I am.”

Basic Rules

The only thing you can control in this classroom is your attitude.

No phones, ear buds/headphones, or hats.

Be respectful, courteous, and prepared.

Never leave your seat without permission.

Under no circumstances will you line up at the door at the end of the hour.

Your actions, behaviors, and attitudes will dictate the teaching and your classroom experience.

Ice Breaker In your groups, discuss your likes and dislikes. One person in the group should record the

information on a post-it note. Record names next to likes.

Do not use things like: brown hair, brown eyes, each have a sister or brother (boring).

Get creative and find interesting bonds that you may share. I will use these to create seating charts in order to place you in groups with peers that share common bonds.

Classroom Norms

What makes a safe, productive classroom?

Create a circle map, then share their ideas with their table group.

Choose 1 or 2 ideas to bring to the class.

I’ll compile the ideas in a class map.
