SAFETY TIPS

Avoid walking long distances at night, especially in

empty streets. The emptier the street, the riskier it is.

USE ONLY

ACCREDITED TAXIS

You should keep a photocopy of your ID card. (in case you ever need it, like showing it off to a policeman for identification purposes. The law in Brazil asks that any citizen must have an ID card on him while walking outside).

Be careful with your valuable objects. Don’t display wealth products like cell phones, MP3 players, iPODs,

laptops or cameras in public places.

Use a taxi to go to your destination or back to your apartment/hotel room, even if the distance is short.

SOCIAL HABITS

Cheek kissing is a universal form of greeting between a man and a woman or two women.

It is not necessary to know a person well or be intimate with them to kiss them on the cheek.

We greet each other with a kiss on the cheek, and sometimes a hug.

Public display of affection is acceptable.

People are usually talkative, so it is easy to start a conversation!

Don’t worry: being a little bit late is normal here.
