Who Am I?• I’m originally from New Jersey. I taught
there for 4 years before moving to Virginia. This is my 6th year at Pinebrook.
• Other than teaching, I love the beach, crossfit, football (Go Steelers), and spending time with my family.
Tardies/Absences/Dismissal
• 7:50 Bell Rings – It’s very important to arrive to school on time!
• If your child is tardy they must check into the office and receive a pink tardy slip.
• If your child is absent, please call the absentee line that morning.
• If you want to pick your child up early or there is a change in dismissal- please do so by 2:15
Birthdays
• Birthdays will be celebrated!
• NO popsicles this year- you can come read to the class, donate a book to our library or any other supply/recess equipment
• Invitations are not allowed to be brought into the classroom unless ALL students in the class are invited.
Snack/Lunch Time• Second grade will have snack
everyday this year due to our late lunch time. Please no Nut Products! Healthy snacks only!
• Lunch is at 11:48-12:18.
• Please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast.
Communication Folders• Red Homework folders will be sent
home daily.• Please check folders daily as they
are the main communication tool.• Homework along with any notes
should be sent back to school in the red folder.
• No Thursday Folders this year- papers from school/PTA will still be sent home on Thursdays
Second Grade Homework• All assignments will be written in
agenda- students responsible for writing it down
• Students will have Math homework every night- it needs to be returned the next day
• Science/Social Studies/Language Arts might be given throughout the week.
• Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night.
• No Homework on Fridays.
Reflex Math
• Helps to teach addition and subtraction facts
• Will do sometimes in the computer lab during our scheduled time
• HOMEWORK- need to complete 3 20 minute sessions (total of 60 minutes) throughout the week- I will check on Friday to see if it is complete
Raz-Kids
• Practice reading skills• Will be assigned periodically
throughout the week• Also completed in school as a
center• Assignment will be written in
agendas
Quizzes and Tests• You will see either a 1,2,3, or 4 at the top of
each quiz or test– 1 Performing Below Standard (retake)
– 2 Progressing Towards Standard (retake)
– 3 Meets Standard– 4 Exceeds StandardStudy guides- will be given out for
Social Studies and Science about a week before the quiz/test
Math- please use HW pages as study guides
Timed Drills
• Will be given 1x a week• By the end of the year students
need to be able to answer 50 questions correctly in 4 minutes
• We will start the year off giving them 5 minutes but will decrease the time as the year goes on
Newsletter
• This will inform you about what we have been learning about and upcoming events.
• Newsletters will be sent home the first of each month.
Classroom Management• Positive Reinforcement
• Students will earn star punch outs on their star cards.
• Stars will be accumulated on their card and students can choose their reward when they have earned 10 stars.
• FUN FRIDAY!• Paws! (PBIS)• Think Sheet
Curriculum• Reading/Writing/Word Study• Science/Health• Social Studies• Math
– Students will take pre tests and post tests to measure their learning.
– The pre-test determines if they should be placed in the enrichment math class.
– Math classes will be changed half way through the year .
Word Study• New words introduced on Monday
• Same words for 2 weeks
•Tested on those words on 2nd Friday
•Word Study activities will be done in the classroom everyday during centers
•Please make sure you are studying the patterns at home (sort, come up with new words that follow the patterns, spelling stairs, etc.)
