A word of thanks to the many parishioners and

members of the staff who worked so hard and

shared their wonderful talents to make our Holy

Week Masses and Services so inspiring. A special

thanks to our faithful deacons, altar servers, lectors,

greeters, church sani zers , those who decorated our

churches and those who contributed for the Easter

Flowers. Of course, a huge thank you to those in our

music ministry who enhanced our Holy Week Masses

with their beau ful music. On behalf of Fr. Ryan,

thanks to so many of you who took the me to send

a note or a card, or just offered a word of encour-

agement and support during the week. Let us con-

nue to be an Easter people, proclaiming Christ Ris-

en from the dead. A Blessed Easter to you and your

families. Fr. Steve

CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF FALMOUTH

As was announced at all Masses the past few weeks, the Pastoral Council, along with Fr. Ryan,

our deacons and me, have been in discussions with the Diocesan Pastoral Planning Office for

the past six months regarding the future direc2on of our Collabora2ve of parishes here in Fal-

mouth. The decision has been reached to move forward with the process of the unifica2on of

our three parish communi2es into a new parish en2ty. We are in a unique situa2on here in

Falmouth as we s2ll have a reasonable number of parishioners in each parish which, of

course, increases in the Summer, warran2ng the need for the mul2ple worship sites. As was

men2oned, although we will need to decide on a new name for the parish, the exis2ng

churches and chapels will retain the names with which they were established. (There will s2ll

be a St. Anthony Church, St. Elizabeth Seton Church, St. Patrick Church, as well as St. Thomas

Chapel and St. Joseph Chapel). This will be the new PARISH en2ty which will encompass all of

our exis2ng parishes. Our new unified parish will con2nue to deepen the sense of community

among the Catholics of Falmouth, lead to greater efficiency in the administra2on and

“business” aspects of the parish and most importantly, will greatly assist in the ongoing work

of Evangeliza2on which is central to the Gospel mandate. The advantage of making this move

now is that we will be staying in front of the issues we will be facing in the not too distant fu-

ture, rather than wai2ng and “reac2ng” when facing these challenges. These challenges in-

clude the decline in the number of available priests to serve in the parishes of our diocese, the

demographic changes in the area which show a decline in families, an aging popula2on, and

the need for the Church of Falmouth to be beEer stewards of our fiscal and human resources,

assuring our strong and vibrant presence in Falmouth for many, many years to come.

This Wednesday evening April 7th , 7:00pm at St. Anthony’s Church, I will address the Parish-

ioners of the three parishes along with members of the Pastoral Council in order to explain

the unifica2on process in detail and try to address any concerns as we approach the target

date of July 1st for the establishment of the new parish. You are welcome to aEend in person

or please tune in via our livestream at hEps://www.falmouthcatholic.org/livestream or via

Zoom at hEps://us02web.zoom.us/j/84897384805 . I hope many will join with us on April 7th!

STRONGER

TOGETHER

Is it safe to return to church? As more people

are vaccinated, it is great to see so many re-

turning to weekend Masses. If you sll have

concerns, we remind you that besides social

distancing, sanizing staons, the sanizing

of the churches aer each Mass and facemask wearing, we are extra careful in the distribuon of Ho-

ly Communion, ask for names for contact tracing and each of our churches is equipped with air puri-

fying devices in the ductwork of the air handler systems that eradicates the Covid Virus. Let others

know of our a,empts to keep our churches as safe as possible during the pandemic. Welcome back!

We appreciate your support of our parishes, espe-

cially during this difficult )me when collec)ons

have diminished. Thanks to those who have

dropped off their envelopes and other dona-

ons. If you wish to place your dona)on in just

one envelope (as opposed to mul)ple weekly en-

velopes,) please feel free to do so. All three par-

ishes can par)cipate in the WESHARE online do-

naon program. As you know, the weekly collec-

)on is our primary means of support. From this,

we must pay u)li)es, insurance and most im-

portantly, our faithful employees. Thanks to all.

Bishop da Cunha’s Easter Message

2021

Dear Friends in Christ,

As we celebrate another Easter, we are

reminded that, even in the midst of a pandemic,

this is a time of renewal and rebirth, of hope

and joy. This past year, we have seen many dif-

ficulties, but the crisis brought by the pandemic

can also become an opportunity for transfor-

mation. If we focus on how our struggles and

our circumstances can strengthen our faith,

hope, and love of God, we will truly be embrac-

ing the message of Easter. When we encounter

a crisis in our lives, we can, with Christ’s help,

find an opportunity to emerge more faithfilled

and encouraged. As St. Paul teaches us, “Do

not be conformed to this world but be trans-

formed by the renewal of your mind, that you

may prove what is the will of God, what is good

and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2).

In the Paschal Mystery of Jesus’ Passion,

death, and Resurrection, we witness eternal life

spring forth from death, suffering turned into

joy, and despair replaced with hope. Happily,

Easter always takes place in spring, a time

when the once barren quiet of winter melts

away and signs of new life emerge. The past

year has been, at times, bleak and perhaps even

desolate for some, yet, in this Easter season,

like nature itself, we are called to recognize that

all things are made new again and be an inte-

gral part of this renewal. The Resurrection of

Jesus brings new life to us all. May we recog-

nize and be receptive to God’s plan of sheer

goodness (Catechism of the Catholic Church,

1), prepared for a spiritual renewal of ourselves

and our Church.

Blessings on you and your family, and

may we experience the peace and joy of the Ris-

en Christ in our hearts and home.

My prayers and best wishes for a blessed

Easter to all of you.

Most Reverend Edgar M. da Cunha,

Bishop of Fall River
