  • GOALS FOR AQR Develop an understanding different branches of mathematics. Provide experience with mathematical methods, models, and and applications. Develop an appreciation of mathematics as a coherent body of knowledge and as a human accomplishment. Have fun!

  • GRADING Major grades: Test/Project = 60% Minor grades: Quiz and Homework = 40% I DO NOT round up six weeks and semester averages! You will earn your grade in this class.

  • EXTRA CREDIT Opportunities for extra credit will be given only through the ticket system, which we will discuss later. If you are completing all the regular assignments, you wont need extra credit.

  • HOMEWORK Yes, you will have homework occasionally! And it is important. Homework is for review, practice, and application. I will not make you learn brand new material through homework alone. I will not waste your time by giving you useless assignments.

  • TESTS Most of the time, we will have at least two tests/projects per six weeks. Tests will be completed independently, without notes, and without my help. DO NOT ask for assistance on tests.

  • TESTS If you wish to ace your tests, you must STUDY!! How do I study for a math test???

  • TESTS Students will correct all tests! Credit will be given for test corrections which meet the requirements. Test retakes will be given in accordance with district policy. In order to re-test, a student must first make corrections and fill out a Request to Re-test form.

  • DO NOT TALK WHILE I AM TALKING (DURING NOTES, INSTRUCTIONS, ETC.) Do not disturb the learning environment or be disruptive.

  • SEATING You will have an assigned seat. This is how I take attendance (and learn your names). Stay in your assigned seat. Do not move the desks!!! BTW: DO NOT open the windows unless I ask you to.

  • STARTING CLASS Have all of your materials ready to go before the tardy bell rings. Sharpen your pencils before class begins. You will not be allowed to get out of your chair in the middle of instruction to sharpen your pencil. Immediately upon entering class, begin the daily Warm Up.

  • COME TO CLASS ON TIME. I will record tardies and assign lunch d-hall. Stay awake during class!

  • CELL PHONES Cell phones and other electronic devices will only be used with teachers permission for announced, instructional purposes and will otherwise be confiscated. You may not charge your phone in my classroom (Do not ask!) Headphones/ear buds and music are not allowed.

  • FOOD, DRINKS, AND GUM are not allowed in my classroom. If I catch you with it, I will throw it away. YOU are responsible for throwing away your trash! Please do so at the end of class so that you do not interrupt lecture time.

  • *Go to the restroom and get a drink before class. *Do not apply make-up or fix your hair during class. *Do not ask to go to another teachers class, locker room, etc.

  • PASS &TICKET SYSTEM At the beginning of the semester, you will be given: 2 Emergency Bathroom Passes 1 Leave Me Alone Pass 10 Witte Tickets

  • EMERGENCY BATHROOM PASSES At the end of the semester, 2 unused Emergency Bathroom Passes will excuse your lowest minor grade of the third/sixth six weeks!! In order to leave class, you must forfeit an Emergency Bathroom Pass and sign in and out on the Enter/Exit Log. You must take the red bathroom pass with you anytime you leave class. Save these passes for true emergencies only. All other bathroom business should take place before class.

  • LEAVE ME ALONE PASS At the end of the semester, 1 unused Leave Me Alone Pass will add 5 extra points to your lowest major grade of the third/sixth six weeks! These passes may be used on a day when you are not feeling well and want to put your head down. Leave Me Alone Passes may not be used on quiz or test days. To redeem: see me before class, explain your situation, and surrender your pass. Students are still responsible for material learned on days they use their LMA pass!!

  • WITTE TICKETS Everything in my room is earned, not given. At the end of the semester, each unused Witte Ticket will be worth an extra point. Extra points will be averaged into your minor grades for the third/sixth six weeks. Costs: Pen or pencil = 3 tickets Kleenex = 2 tickets Band aid = 4 tickets Notebook paper = 2 tickets Graph paper = 4 tickets It may be possible to earn more tickets throughout the year.

  • STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN TICKETS AND PASSES. When you receive your tickets and passes, immediately write your name on the back of them. You must carry your tickets and passes with you at all times. Do not leave or hide them in my room. Tickets and passes which are found on the floor or left in my room with be trashed. You must be in possession of your tickets and/or passes to use them, and they will be surrendered upon redemption. (There is no ticket credit system.)

  • Be respectful of school property. Do not write, draw, doodle, or otherwise vandalize desks. My teacher desk area is off limits. Do not enter the area. Do not sit in my desk chair. You may not use my computer.

  • THE BIGGEST GUARANTEE OF YOUR SUCCESS IN THIS CLASS IS YOUR ATTITUDE! Negativity, whining, and complaining will not be tolerated!

  • EXTRA HELP Tutorials: Tuesday Mornings 7:10 am Thursday Afternoons 3:00pm If you have a question during class, raise your hand! If things get tough, you are not allowed to give up! See me for help!

  • CHEATING What constitutes cheating? Copying down someone elses homework. What if they helped you? Talking during a test or quiz. Getting answers from the Internet. Using your phone during a test or quiz. I always notice when you cheat, even if I dont say anything! Consequences for cheating on a major assignment are outlined in the Student Handbook.

  • PARTICIPATION Students are expected to participate in class every day. Take good class notes, and refer back to them frequently. You will get out of this class what you put into it. You may not work on homework from or study for another class during this one!

  • ABSENT WORK When you are absent, it is your job to get missing work from the absent work binder. Students will be given one day for each day of excused absence to turn in make-up work. Tests and quizzes are announced in advance; therefore, immediately upon returning to school you must attend a tutorial session to take the quiz or test you missed. Failure to make up missing assignments right away will result in an alternate assignment and/or points lost. Easy ways to get find out what you missed: 1.) Ask me before or after class, or come during a tutorial time. 2.) Ask a friend to get your work for you, or ask them to explain what you missed!
