ome Language Questionnaire (HLQ) and Parent Permission Form (PPF)
•Any student who speaks another language or who lives in a home where another language is spoken is identified as an English Language Learner (ELL)
•All new students are given a placement test
The ELA program in DPS
•We are required by law to provide ESL services to ELL students
•Students exit the ELA program when they show proficiency on the ACCESS test and in their classroom
•Parents have options!•Option 1: Spanish instruction (students gradually transition into English)•Option 2: Mainstream English classroom, students receive pull-out support•Option 3: Deny services, this is HIGHLY discouraged. Students are closely monitored and still take the ACCESS test every year.
