youwilllayforyourselvesafirmfoundationforthisageandtheagetocome.Today, we continue our sermon series on the Biblical charge to clarity, unity and charity

which is a call upon every disciple of the Lord.

ThesethingsarecentraltotheChristianfaithanditisachargethat has been given to us by the living God through the Word of God.

Therefore, we need to be people who are Forever Faithful to the things of God.

COME THOU FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING

Written by Robert Robinson,[Born: September 27, 1735,

Swaffham, Norfolk, England.Died: June 8, 1790, Showell

Green, Warwickshire,

Robinson’s widowed mothersent him at age 14 to London,

to learn the trade of barberand hair dresser. However,

his master found he enjoyedreading more than work.

Converted to Christ at age17, Robinson became a

Methodist minister. He latermoved to the Baptist churchand pastored in Cambridge,

England.

He wrote a number ofhymns, as well as books onthe subject of theology. His

later life was evidently not aneasy one, judging from a wellknown story about this hymn

“Come, Thou Fountof Every Blessing.”

One day, he encountered awoman who was studying ahymnal, and she asked how

he liked the hymn she washumming. In tears, he

replied, “Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who

wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thou-sand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then.”

Often our faith is strong.Often weak.

But deep and abiding peacecomes not in our feelingsor in our situation, but inthe unchanging nature of

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

As we sit under the reading and teaching of Scripture,

it calls for a response as we ask ourselves “what

will we do with the truth pre-sented today?” The Christian life is marked by the offering

of one’s self to God to be shaped, empowered, directed

and changed by God and His Word. In worship, God presents us with the costly

self-offering of Jesus Christ. We are calmed by Christ and set free. In response to God’s

love in Jesus Christ we offer our lives, our gifts, our time,

our abilities and our material goods for God’s service, His

glory, and our ultimate good.
