WELCOM E
to the
9th DITANET Topical Workshop
Non-Invasive Beam Size Measurement for High Brightness Proton and Heavy Ion Accelerators
CERN, Geneva, SwitzerlandApril 15-17th 2013
Rhodri Jones (BE/BI)
Workshop Aims
• Introduction– Understanding emittance blow-up is crucial to maximise luminosity
production in the LHC– The high brightness of LHC beams in both the LHC and its injectors
are creating problems for the standard suite of emittance measurement systems
• Main Aim– To prepare non-invasive transverse beam size monitors in the LHC
and its injector chain to fulfil the future emittance measurement requirements for LHC beams
• Focus on– Improvements to existing systems for implementation during the long
shutdown in 2013-2014– Concepts that could be foreseen for installation during the second long
shutdown in 2018
