    Basketball

Chris Patureau (pat tour row) knows of what he speaks when he says that this years Northeast Christian Academy(NCA) Boys Basketball squad was more in sync on and off the court.

We had probably more (physical) talent last year whereas this year it appears we are more of a team that recognizes our roles in a much more cohesive way and were also much closer off the court, as well, he says.

The All-State candidate-again-is also full of the knowledge of what it takes to win a championship in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools(TAPPS) as he took advantage of another chance again after the black and blue clad Warriors of NCA survived a very physical defensive battle with Vanguard Prep Academy of Waco, taking home in the process a 42-28, 2A title victory. The battle transpired at Nolan Catholic High in Fort Worth last Saturday afternoon and thanks to Patureaus Warrior game high 15 points, just like DEATH and TAXES, the 35-2 club had won another state crown with inevitable certainty, their third in a row. To get there though, NCA had to survive a State Semi with Texoma Christian ofSherman.

Even though the Forest Cove neighborhood based team fell behind by 10 points in the third quarter after leading by eight at the half, they were still able to rally and win, 64-61 in their closest game of the season. Patureau led the team with 26 points while Jake Strother chipped in with 19 points. That was set up after NCA left their marks all over San Antonio Lutheran Academys Mustangs, 76-40 in the 2A Region Three Championship game Saturday, February, 26th at Houston Christian Academy.

Warriors Win Three-peat in Rough and Tumble Final

While happy about that win, Patureau seemed just as interested though in his near triple(stat categories)- double(digits equaling amounts of ten or more in each category) in the ballgame, missing only by one assist. Make no mistake about it though, after he went the first six minutes and ten seconds of the game without scoring thanks to a cold outside jump-shooting performance, he turned things around quickly offensively with driving layups and with clever ball distribution. After finding the open man with a variety of Larry Bird-esque passes, NCA opened up what had been a close 14-10 end of first quarter lead. They used Patureaus dishing to hammer home a 10-2 run which contained inside it seven

consecutive NCA points. Warrior Joe Ashworth joined Brian Goll and Jake Strother with a combined trio of three-point righthand corner bombs to expand a narrow lead of six points, to one of fourteen , 31-17, all in a span of a minute and a half midway in the second quarter, and for all intents and purposes the game was over.

All told, NCA had another productive second quarter in this years playoffs, something that was beginning to be a habit. The 26-13 demolition which gave the Warriors a 40-23 halftime lead over the white, maroon and gold clad Mustangs from the Alamo city though was still no match for the 33-3 second frame whipping the team gave outmanned Alvin Living

Moving Day - Chris Patureau of Northeast Christian maneuvers through traffic against Waco Vanguard in the TAPPS 2011 2A Finals at DFW Nolan Catholic HS. His leadership and All-State play were two of the major rea-sons that NCA three-peated in 2011.

  • 5they didnt before, found a new-found respect for the Panthers in white. The Coogs also learned to pay attention with reverence to Justin Chandler. Off the bench right away, Chandler stayed in for most of the game and turned in a monstrous 24 point, 27 rebound night. His touch around the basket portends of a 2011-12 season potential All-State berth. Outgoing point guard, Adrian Johnson added 18 points for Park, who survived a cold night of outside shooting, to mostly stay tightly bunched with LM in the ballgame. As the season now comes to a close, one thing is for sure, it will never be forgotten, because oh yes, Park stacked up very well in 2010-11.

They also stacked up pretty well after their sporadically physical 55-54 win over Beaumont Ozen March, 2nd at Summer Creek High. Justin Chandlers muscle-leaning baseline bank shot layup went in with 22 seconds left in overtime number one and the Panthers in white and

All Signs Pointed to Sweet Sixteen Season for K-Park Boys About a month ago, Dominic Amorosa the Head Coach of the Kingwood Park Boys basketball team put up a simple request.

I put it up (a sign) showing that our immediate goal for the season was to reach the Regional Quarterfinals and since we had accomplished that (before the Ozen game), we could then see how we stacked up against the elite teams in our area, Amorosa says.

Even though their Region 3-4A, 59-50 Semifinal loss to La Marques gold and blue clad Cougars, stopped the basketball season for K-Park, it didnt dampen the accomplishment of
