WEEKLY ROUNDUP 27.5.16 No fishing news unfortunately, with the weather, cool mornings and declining enthusiasm after a long season keeping club boats in port this week. As we get towards the end of the season, there are still a few trophy categories up for grabs. Not every one gets taken out, and most attention is directed at the champion boat and champion angler sections. Top Shelf pushing Kandu back home on the end of a rope. Of course, aside from the dreaded Anal Fin Award, the other feared trophy is The Paddle. This was created for those skippers who need a little assistance getting home due to mechanical issues out at sea. For quite a while it looked like The Paddle wasn’t going to go off this year, but then Top Shelf gallantly stepped up last week, requiring Hags’ help to return from The Patch.

WEEKLY ROUNDUP 27.5.16

No fishing news unfortunately, with the weather, cool mornings and declining enthusiasm after a long season keeping club boats in port this week.

It may be a little premature, but congratulations Ross Smith!

BAR CAM

If you haven’t looked for a while, the RMS has finally tweaked the Coffs Harbour Bar Cam. It’s a massive improvement over the old one; the camera actually points in the right direction now and not in the trees, you can expand it to full size on a computer screen, and it doesn’t drop out half way through panning across the harbour.

COMP DAY TOMORROW

Well this is it folks, our final day of the season. Depending on your choice of weather guessing service, it’s either going to be fishable or crap. Whether we fish or not, the post-fishing barbecue will take place. Roddy from Café Bellissimo is putting on something even more special than usual, plus the club’s throwing a bit of cash on the bar.

Bronco will be conducting radio skeds from Game Fish Base and fishing hours are 7.00am to 4.00pm.

HAS IT BEEN A GOOD SEASON?

Notwithstanding tomorrow’s results, marlin-wise it’s been amazing — possibly our best on record. A provisional count shows there were 34 blues, 34 blacks and 31 stripes tagged, which is way up on last year’s result of 41, 13 and 13 respectively. Good to see the stripes around, especially in spring, and the blues were more consistent, without the crazy bite periods of years past.

Despite the magnificent water, mahimahi were pretty much non-existent, but the wahoo sure filled the gap, with plenty caught. Yellowfin numbers were about the same.

A NEW ARRIVAL

Rob Glover is now the owner of the famous Tantrum, a 38 Dominator from the Sydney Game Fishing Club. This thing raises fish like no tomorrow, so expect the as-yet unnamed boat to figure prominently in the pointscore next season. Congrats Rob!

PRESENTATION DINNER

Don’t forget that the club’s annual presentation dinner is on Saturday July 2nd, at the Y-Knot Bistro at the Coffs Harbour Yacht Club. Cost is $35 per head for members, and $45 for guests.
