Dennis Kyne, a hero of George H.W. For that, Kyne was arrested and charged with some eight counts, including “inciting a riot” and “resisting arrest.” Kyne demanded a trial by jury. The police swore Kyne was so violent it took four offi- cers to subdue him. A new Gallup poll has found that53 percent of Americans feel thatthe U.S.-led invasion of Iraq was“not worth it.” According to Gallup:“Levels of support vary by politicalparty, race and age. Democrats aremuch less likely than Republicansto say it was worth going to war inIraq. Nearly 8 in 10 Republicans, 79percent, say it was worth going towar, while just 19 percent say it wasnot worth it. Among Democrats, only 17 percent say it was worth itand 82 percent say it was not. Thedivide among political independ-ents is not as wide: a third, 36 per-cent, say it was worth going to war, while 61 percent say it was not.”Also, whites say it was worth it by a50 percent-to-48 percent margin, while non-whites rate it 26 percentOK and 72 percent not. A majorityof 18- to 29-year-olds, and a major-ity of Americans aged 65 and older, think it was not worth going to war.Americans between the ages of 30and 64 are more evenly split.

Be Kind to YourselfState Department bureaucrats draw$150 daily tax-free, when traveling, just for “food” (including martinis),The Washington Post reports. Lodg-

ing, first-class airline tickets andother travel incidentals are in addi-tion to the food money. So, the nexttime an IRS functionary questionsyour travel costs, tell him you eatless than a bureaucrat.

Mexicans Abuse OwnThe State Department says that theMexican government consistentlyviolates the rights of illegal alienscrossing its southern border intoMexico. The State Department citesabuses at all levels of the Mexicangovernment. It also accuses Mexicoof trafficking in illegal aliens.

Israel DronedHezbollah revolutionaries, operat-ing an Iranian-made remote-con-trolled drone, penetrated Israel’svaunted air defenses and flew

unmolested over Western Galileecities for nearly nine minutes onApril 11 before returning the dronesafely to Lebanon, Defense Newsreports. “The embarrassing episodewas rendered all the more egre-gious since military intelligencehad advance warning,” the journalsaid.

Danger Strait AheadChina’s recent enactment of an“anti-secession” law threatens theuse of “non-peaceful means” ifTaiwan refuses to unify with China,The Wall Street Journal reports. Poison at HomeA new study finds widespread toxic-ity in household dust, providing evi-dence of a potential pathway bywhich toxic chemicals end up inpeople, The Wall Street Journal re-ports. The study speculates that thechemicals come largely from con-sumer products such as pesticides, nonstick Teflon frying pans, plasticshower curtains and electronicappliances.

Sheep MurderedIsraeli police said they are investi-gating complaints that Jewish set-tlers fatally poisoned sheep belong-ing to Palestinians in an attempt todrive Palestinians off their land inthe West Bank. A settler admitted 20sheep had been killed.

Pledge Objector RemovedVoters in Estes Park, Colo. removedtown trustee David Habecker in arecall election because of his refusalto recite the Pledge of Allegiance,The Washington Times reports.Habecker, a self-proclaimed agnos-tic, objected to the words “underGod” in the pledge. Habecker saidhe may sue. Lori-Jeffry Clark, whose

husband led the recall, said he hasno grounds. “The state statute onrecalls doesn’t even say you have tohave a reason to recall someone,”she said. “They could recall mebecause I’m short and squat.”

Another VictimJohn Hansl, now 80, is beingdeported because he was a guard ina German POW camp during WWII.Although the Germans strictlyobserved the rules of the GenevaConvention and did not mistreattheir prisoners a la Abu Ghraib, fed-eral judge Robert Pratt in DesMoines said that Hansl is guilty of“hate, suffering and persecution” ofprisoners more than a half centuryago. Of course, Hansl can thumb hisnose at the judge and push hiswheelchair across the Canadian orMexican border easily but being alaw-abiding, non-boat-rocking legalimmigrant, he probably won’t.

THIS WEEK, OUR LEAD STORY looks at thenews blackout surrounding the powerful glob-alist group, the Trilateral Commission (TC),which furtively gathers every year to discuss crit-ical issues affecting us all.

It is simply incredible that top U.S. officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretaryof Defense Donald Rumsfeld and FederalReserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, comebefore the world’s power elite to hash out U.S.policies, but the gathering receives virtually noacknowledgement by the mainstream press inthis “democracy.”

Of course, we were not invited to attend thismeeting. Veteran Bilderberg hound Jim Tuckerfound out where TC was assembling andprowled the halls of the luxury hotel and con-ference hall to get all of the details. Once againit is American Free Press, alone among thenational news media, that is reporting on this.

Use our information to get the word out toyour friends. Be sure to tell them that onlyAmerican Free Press had this story on a nationallevel.

On an administrative note, demand forMichael Collins Piper’s latest book, The NewJerusalem, has been absolutely unbelievable—even more so than his previous book, The HighPriests of War. Consequently, we’ve had to printmore copies to meet the unexpectedly largenumber of orders.

If you recently ordered a copy of Mike’s lat-est blockbuster, there may be an unfortunate, delay. Books should be back from the printer inabout four weeks and we are working as fast aswe can to get you your order. Thank you foryour support of American FreePress. It is truly inspiring.

Page 3: WEEKLY PAPER: DO NOT DELAY—MAILED: 4-22-05 AFP ......For years, the successful business entrepreneur and con-servative Republican, once asked by the RNC to run against Bill Clinton

“I designed the strategy that took the House and Senatefrom Clinton,” recalls Schwarz, also a strong supporter andstrategist for President George H. W. Bush. “I designed thattakeover two years before I realized the Republican ‘Con-tract with America’ was actually a ‘Contract on America.’ ”

After his political reawakening, Schwarz began blastingthe neo-cons where it hurt most—in their pocketbooks—coming forward with evidence regarding oil deals andgovernment involvement with the Taliban and Pakistan.

In his book and his ongoing seven-part series of articlesentitled “Pop Goes the Bush Mythology Bubble,” he pro-vides inside information about countless financial scams, essentially revealing that the Bush motive behind theMiddle East invasion was more about oil profits than thewar on terrorism.

Saying the neo-cons within the government aredestroying America for their own corporate-global bene-fits, Schwarz doesn’t mince words and is calling for theimpeachment of Bush, as well as removal of any memberof Congress who aids and abets the corrupt powers.

Now, moving away from financial corruption, he hasturned his attention to the 9-11 truth movement, saying hehas found a piece of obscure video footage that shows thatthe government lied about what type of plane struck thesouth tower of the WTC.

Schwarz admits he had a “whole lot” of luck when run-ning across the video footage in a French foreign film enti-tled The Barbarian Invasion.

Contained in the film unrelated to 9-11, is a 1 minute,52 second, video segment, shot by an unknown amateurphotographer at the WTC, which Schwartz says clearlyshows a Boeing 737 airliner striking the south tower.

“We tracked down the filmmaker and he acquired theoriginal WTC segment from the Canadian News Service,”said Schwarz, adding that he has had the tape analyzed byexperts proving it’s not a fake. “We are tracking down theoriginal photographer and want to get to him before thegovernment does in order to prove its authenticity.

“This segment, however, conclusively shows a 737 hitthe south tower, not a 767 as previously reported. This in

itself should be the smoking gun, which proves the wholestory given to us by the government about 9-11 is untrue.”

Originally, the government claimed the second jetlineren route to Los Angeles was a Boeing 767. However,Schwarz said the video will not only show the airlinedimensions to be those of a 737, but that he also has evi-dence that the engine recovered in the WTC wreckage wasa model type CFM56, which propels a 737, not a 767.

“Not even two CFM56’s could get a 767 off theground,” added Schwartz.

Besides 9-11, Schwartz said three major areas that needto be thoroughly investigated regarding the Bush adminis-tration’s present policies include:

• Administration ties with Afghanistan, the Taliban andthe Bridas Corp. Schwarz claims a high-ranking Bridasexecutive is one of his main sources, implicating the Bushadministration with corruption involving the Taliban andthe Afghan invasion.

• Information implicating 9-11 commission memberswith direct and indirect financial benefits due to the Bushpolicies in the Middle East.

“Whistleblowers Sibel Edmonds, Karen Kwiatkowskiand others whom I cannot disclose without jeopardizingtheir safety, including many members of the armed servic-es, have acted as my main sources,” said Schwarz.

Asked how he would describe himself, since many crit-ics may consider him a disgruntled Republican, he said:

“I am conservative, fiscally responsible, an ecumenicalChristian and an American patriot who clearly under-stands fascism and clearly sees this is exactly what is goingon within the Bush administration.

“To answer my critics, they can say whatever. However, those who read my book will clearly see that the mainproblem now facing America has been caused and ampli-fied by the last three presidential administrations, Bush I,Clinton and Bush II.” ★

By Ralph Forbes

During his 15 years in the Army, Dennis Kynewas trained as a battlefield medic, a nuclear, chemical and biological weapons specialist, and a drill sergeant. He was eventually nom-inated to study at the U.S. Military Academy

at West Point. In 1991 he was sent to Iraq as a part of Gulf War I, where

he worked as a medic, pulling his comrades from battle andtreating the wounds of an army of Americans sent to fight awar on foreign soil.

When Kyne returned to the United States he learned themost painful lessons: the military itself was conducting aseries of medical tests on his body, and on the bodies ofthousands of American men and women stationed in theMiddle East. They were used as guinea pigs, in testing newdrugs and nuclear weaponry.

Kyne was shocked to return home and learn about theside effects of his exposure to the toxic weapons componentknown as depleted uranium.

Kyne was thankful that he disobeyed orders to swallowpyridostigmine bromide tablets; a requirement set forth forall military personnel during Gulf War I. Instead he threwthem away. But his comrades who did swallow them arenow suffering from un-diagnosable diseases.

To this day, Kyne says he is outraged that the Army refus-es to acknowledge the source of a multitude of deaths anddiseases that began on the battlefields of Gulf War I.

Inspired by A Martyr Speaks, the collected writings of thepatriot martyr John Alan Coey, who fought in Rhodesia,Kyne has written his own testimony, titled “Support theTruth.” It is available on the Internet at denniskyne.com. ★

Kyne was taken to the infamous Tombs, while most ofthe other 1,806 people arrested were held in the concentra-tion camp dubbed “Guantanamo on the Hudson.”

Interviewed on “The Power Hour” radio show, hosted byJoyce Riley, Kyne said that he plans to sue all the partiesresponsible for the false arrest that silenced the free speechhe and his buddies risked their lives to defend.

In another case that never got before a jury, AlexanderDunlop was arrested at the RNC while picking up sushi.

Police swore Dunlop pushed his bicycle into a line ofpolice officers on the Lower East Side and resisted arrest. They had a tape that “proved” their charges.

Fortunately for Dunlop he discovered there were twoversions of the same police tape: the one that was to be usedas evidence in his trial had been edited, removing imagesthat showed Dunlop behaving peacefully. The other tape, containing the important deleted scenes, showed him calm-ly approaching the police line, and later submitting to arrestwithout apparent incident. ★

T he warmongering neo-cons and sen-ior military planners at the Pentagonrecklessly took the United States towar in Iraq without considering thepossibility that Iraqis would resist

foreign occupation with arms. One of the senior military planners of the

invasion and occupation of Iraq recently admitted that dur-ing the Pentagon’s extensive pre-war planning the realisticpossibility that the Iraqi people would confront the occu-pying army with armed resistance had not been taken intoconsideration.

In a remarkably frank public admission of personalresponsibility for the failure to predict the “insurgency,”which has killed and wounded thousands of U.S. soldiers, the former Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army Gen. John M.Keane told Lisa Mullins of Public Radio International’s “TheWorld” that as a senior military planner he was partly toblame.

“When we look back on it, we clearly did not see theinsurgency coming and that clearly is a fault on our part andall of us who had a hand in this have to bear responsibilityfor that,” Keane said in the interview that aired on April 11.

Keane, a member of the U.S. Department of DefensePolicy Board, served as chief operating officer for the Armyfrom 1999 until his retirement in October 2003.

“Maybe what we should have done is made an assump-tion that this was a very realistic possibility in any event andplanned accordingly,” Keane said. “Clearly, looking back onit that should have been our course of action.”

The Iraqi resistance, which the Pentagon did not planfor, has taken the lives of 1,411 U.S. soldiers and left more

than many thousands maimed since President George W.Bush declared victory in Iraq on May 1, 2003.

In October 2002, nearly six months before the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq, as the Department of Defenseprepared its war plans, American Free Press asked thePentagon how it realistically planned to occupy a hostileArabic-speaking nation the size of California with a popu-lation of 26 million.

Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. David Lapan responded byquoting Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who hadsaid: “Don’t do anything that is not achievable and whichyou can’t sustain.”

The Pentagon planners, however, utterly failed to con-sider modern Iraqi history by ignoring the possibility thatthe occupation would be confronted by a popular armedresistance. This is a particularly glaring failure given the factthat the British have extensive experience as a military occu-pying power in Iraq dating from 1914 when they first seizedthe oil rich region of Basra.

Furthermore, the Iraqis under Saddam Hussein fought along and bloody border war with Iran during the 1980s, aconflict in which Rumsfeld personally played a role. Thefact that Iraqis would fight and die for their nation shouldnot have come as a surprise to the military planners at thePentagon.LACK OF UNDERSTANDING

During the first month of the war, in April 2003,Franklin C. Spinney, a former Air Force officer turned civil-ian analyst, pointed out the Pentagon’s abysmal lack of his-torical understanding as it carried out its invasion of Iraq.

“It’s not just that both then and now the assumption wasthe enemy would just fold and you could just march toBaghdad without any heavy artillery or defense of yourflanks,” Spinney said.

“Some people around here have really believed that we’dbe welcomed with flowers and that everyone would surren-der,” Spinney said. “These guys are working on a set ofassumptions quite similar to the ones the British used—asort of arrogance that doesn’t reflect a real understanding ofwhat we’re getting into.”

Britain’s 1914 invasion force took more than two years toreach Baghdad. The invasion forces under Gen. CharlesTownshend had been soundly defeated at Kut al Amarahand forced to surrender on April 29, 1916.

The defeat of the British at Kut al Amarah was the great-est humiliation to have befallen the British army in its his-tory. Approximately 8,000 British troops were taken prison-er, as was Townshend himself, and a significant percentagedied in captivity.

“Forget Vietnam, remember 1920,” British historianNiall Ferguson said about the potent Iraqi resistance andthe lessons of Britain’s imperialist history in Iraq. The upris-ing in Fallujah of April 2004 “so closely resembles theevents of 1920 that only a historical ignoramus could besurprised,” Ferguson wrote.

In May 1920, when Iraqis learned that the British-occu-pation would become a League of Nations “mandate”under British trusteeship, a full-scale revolt erupted acrossthe country.

“By the time order had been restored in December—with a combination of aerial bombardment and punitivevillage-burning expeditions—British forces had sustainedmore than 2,000 casualties,” Ferguson wrote.

“I am willing to bet,” Ferguson added, “that not one sen-

ior military commander in Iraq today knows the slightestthing about these events.”

Keane’s admission, “We did not see the insurgency com-ing,” suggests that Ferguson’s estimation of the Pentagon’slack of appreciation for Iraqi history is probably close to themark.

The current Iraqi resistance is “viable, resilient and capa-ble of inflicting damage at a time and a place of their choos-ing,” according to Keane, who just returned from a two-week visit to Iraq.

U.S. intelligence agencies, however, should not be theonly ones to bear responsibility for the Pentagon’s failure topredict the insurgency, he said.LACK OF JUDGMENT

“We bear some responsibility ourselves because we’resupposed to exercise some judgment as well, based on thefacts that we have,” Keane said. “I think our judgment wasfaulty and to blame just the intelligence guys is unfair,” hesaid.

As a senior military planner, Keane was asked if heaccepted responsibility for the military’s failure to preparefor the armed insurgency. “Sure,” Keane said, “absolutely.”

“The Army chief of staff, the vice chief of staff, we partic-ipated in sessions with the joint chiefs on a regular basisand approved the plans that were being brought forth by

Gen. Tommy Franks and others,” he said. “We had plenty ofopportunity to input to that, which we did. We had plentyof opportunity to render our judgment, which we did.

“When I look back on it I wish that we had made thatassumption,” Keane said, “and we did not.” ★

Building WisdomWithout Pain

Most people acquire wisdom slowly, over their lifetimes. They do it by making mistakes. That is, they make wrongdecisions. When results turn out badly (hopefully not fatally)they remember not to make that bad decision again. Theworse the pain, the better they remember. It’s a sort of con-ditioned reflex.

The essence of wisdom is predictability. If our ideas aboutthe world are accurate enough we can make wise (pre-dictable) decisions. There is a field of study that helps usknow whether or not our ideas are accurate enough. It iscalled General Semantics. It can be taught, and has been, inhigh schools.

Joseph Phelps, MS, PE, has written a book that will helpyou develop more personal wisdom, and teach it to yourmaturing children. Phelps, a Caltech graduate nowapproaching 80, has been studying and writing about this for60 years. The book is . . .

EVEN GREEN ZONE NOT SAFE: Iraqi nationalguardsmen secure the site of a suicide car bomb at anIraqi national guard recruiting center in Baghdad. Thecar bomb exploded near an entrance to the heavilyfortified Green Zone area, killing at least one and injur-ing 12 according to hospital officials, proving that eventhe American-controlled zone is not immune to insur-gent activity. This is but one of many daily bloodyevents that point to deteriorating conditions around theMiddle Eastern state. And now, reports that more than50 Iraqis have been found dead, floating in the TigrisRiver, shows that the occupying power, the UnitedStates, is incapable of quashing a limited band of guer-rilla fighters. As columnist Paul Craig Roberts has writ-ten many times, eight U.S. divisions have been boggeddown by an estimated 30,000 lightly armed Iraqi rebelfighters. As U.S. forces focus on protecting their basesfrom hourly assault-weapon and rocket-propelled-grenade attacks, the rest of Iraq has been left lackingan effective police force. Consequently, the country hasdisintegrated into a violent civil war among religiousand ethnic groups vying for control. It is high time for theUnited States to pull out of Iraq, once and for all, and letthe Iraqis sort out what is left of their own bombed-outcountry.

However, they stressed the qualification “combatpatrol,” indicating that troops may remain for logisticalduties.

Logistical duties can turn into combat with a single shot. Both Cheney and Rumsfeld are old-timers with interna-

tional power groups. As secretary of defense under PresidentBush the Elder, Cheney participated in the annual closedmeetings of the Trilaterals.

Rumsfeld has participated with the Trilaterals and itsbrother group, Bilderberg, as a White House aide underPresident Ronald Reagan and as defense secretary under thecurrent President Bush.

Bilderberg and the Trilateral Commission have inter-locking leadership and a common agenda. DavidRockefeller and Henry Kissinger are leaders of both groups. The Trilaterals’ European chairman, Peter Sutherland, headof Goldman-Sachs International, is also a Bilderberg leader.Former House Speaker Tom Foley is the TC’s NorthAmerican chairman.

Appearances by Cheney, Rumsfeld and other adminis-tration officials were viewed as top secret. The appearanceswere not listed on their public schedules, not even as involv-ing a “private group.” There were no transcripts available, which is routine in normal functions.

The U.S. invasion of Iraq created the first serious dissentamong participants from the United States and Europe inboth the Trilateral Commission and Bilderberg. On allother major issues, including empowering the UnitedNations to directly tax the citizens of the world as a crucialenhancement of its evolving as a world government, bothgroups are united and collaborating.

Cheney spoke on “policy directions for the U.S. admin-istration” on April 16. Rumsfeld addressed the 300Trilaterals shortly before they headed for the airportsMonday afternoon.

Paul Wolfowitz, deputy secretary of defense and presi-dent-elect of the World Bank, addressed the TC’s dinnermeeting April 17. Wolfowitz assured everyone that theUnited States would be a “willing partner” in helping“developing nations” enhance their economies, meaningmore American tax dollars would be shipped to poor coun-tries.

Following Cheney’s speech on opening day, DavidGergen provided an “analysis of the American electorate.”He warned that “nationalism” remains a strong force inAmerica and selling the idea of surrendering sovereignty tothe UN will be difficult. In TC and Bilderberg dictionaries,“nationalism” is an obscenity.

Gergen is professor of public service at the John Kennedy

School of Government, Harvard University. He is of nofixed ideology. Gergen voted for Hubert Humphrey in 1968but worked for President Richard Nixon and later forPresident Bill Clinton.

“The rise of China and its impact on global governance”was the subject of a panel led by Yotaro Kobayashi, TC’sPacific Asian chairman.

Other panelists were Ren Xaio, director of the Depart-ment of Asian-Pacific Studies at the Shanghai Institute forInternational Studies, and Yuan Ming, director of theInstitute for International Relations at Peking University.

They discussed a prospective “Asian-Pacific Union” sim-ilar to the European Union and the evolving “AmericanUnion” as NAFTA expands throughout the WesternHemisphere. The dollar is to be the common currency ofthe “American Union.” It has long been the Bilderberg-TCgoal to divide the world into three great regions for theadministrative convenience of the world government.

Kissinger participated in a panel on “searching for a newTrilateral partnership.” Bill Emmott, editor of The Economist

of London, joined a discussion on “community building inEast Asia, holding his vows of secrecy loftier than his duty asa journalist. Thomas Pickering of the Boeing Co. participat-ed in a panel on “understanding the Muslim world.”

Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan addressed theTrilaterals on the subject “resolving global currency andtrade conflicts.” Greenspan suggested that it would be diffi-cult to increase the U.S. income tax in the “current politicalatmosphere in Washington.” He said interest rates wouldgradually rise.

The only other coverage of the meeting appeared in TheWashington Times. Reporter Joseph Curl overheard FrancoisSauzey of Paris, a member of the TC staff, complain that“Everyone’s beating up on France because of the coming ref-erendum.” Sauzey was referring to several polls in Francethat indicate voters will reject the proposed EuropeanUnion constitution, a reversal of public sentiment. If justone nation rejects it, the constitution dies.

An internal TC document obtained by AFP said“Europeans must be more explicit, privately if not publicly,

in committing themselves to sanctions if Iran resumes itsuranium enrichment program. For its part, the U.S. needs toengage the Iranians not just on the economic front but alsoon questions of regional security.”

Israel is pressing the United States to attack Iran, whichhas missiles that can strike Israel.

The document was produced by the Center for Strategicand International Studies in Washington. It was authoredby Giuliano Amato, former prime minister of Italy; HaroldBrown, secretary of defense under President Jimmy Carter;Carla Hills, U.S. trade representative under PresidentGeorge H. W. Bush; and George Robertson, former secre-tary-general of NATO and long-time Bilderberg luminary.

“When both the U.S. and Europe face profound eco-nomic challenges from China, India and other risingeconomies, a high-level political commitment at the U.S.-EU summit in June to reduce regulatory and other non-tar-iff barriers to transatlantic trade and investment could bringlong-term improvements to the competitiveness andgrowth of the U.S. and European economies,” the docu-ment said. “Summit” was probably a reference to the Group

of Eight meeting of heads of state from the industrializednations, scheduled July 6-7 (not June) at the Gleneaglesresort in Scotland.

Another internal document, obtained by the Times, wasentitled “Trilateral Memorandum No. 8” and dealt with thecontinuing skirmish between Japan and China. It wasissued by Akira Kojima, a TC member and chairman of the

Japan Center for Economic Research in Tokyo. Relationssoured because of revisionist Japanese textbooks that Chinaclaims fails to address atrocities committed in World War II.Kojima appears to share China’s views. He wrote:

“Japan still has a history of [government] textbookapproval, and this misguided system is at the root of theseunnecessary misunderstandings and must be abolished.”The memo called Japan’s prime minister, JunichiroKoizumi, “a peculiar character in that he is basically stub-born. If he is criticized for one thing, he intentionally sticksto it and repeats it.”

This year, the Trilaterals returned to their earlier policy oftrying to keep their gathering secret. Its Washington officeangrily refused to say when and where they would meet. The huge staff refused to provide papers and the only work-ing journalist on the scene was under constant surveillance.

“The Trilateral Commission’s meetings have inspiredconspiracy theories of powerful puppeteers who secretlypull the strings of world power as they seek to establish anew world order,” the Times story said. “The theories arebased partly on fact.” ★

On April 19 the Senate killed proposals to grantamnesty for up to 1 million illegal immigrantfarm workers and for a guest-worker programfor illegal aliens. Still, the Senate failed tocover itself with glory. A majority favored

amnesty but the proposal fell seven votes short of the 60required for passage under Senate rules. A vote on the guest-worker program was soundly defeated.

Both proposals were offered as amendments to the emer-gency funding bill to finance the occupation of Iraq andAfghanistan. The amnesty bill would have given illegal aliensa three-step path to citizenship. The guest worker bill provid-ed no road to citizenship.

“Nobody really wanted either of these proposals to pass,”said Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.). “They knew they had notbeen fully and carefully considered.”

KEEP RAILS ROLLINGPresident Bush is requesting virtually no funds for

Amtrak rail service in his fiscal 1996 budget but Congressmay reject his plan and keep the trains running. For the sakeof the economy, jobs and everybody’s travel convenience, you better hope Congress wins and expands Amtrak fund-ing. An efficient rail system, like all of Europe has, benefitseveryone. If you must drive, the highways would be lesscrowded thanks to the trains. If you must fly, the lineswould be shorter. If you can ride the rails, you can read ordo paperwork while traveling.

All forms of travel are taxpayer subsidized. Even with allthe state and federal taxes on gasoline, more federal dollarsare required each year to maintain and build roads. Similarly, millions of federal dollars keep planes flying—control tower

operators are not volunteers. The Department of Transportation has yet to send

Congress a recommendation on Amtrak funding, a trans-portation committee aide said. But a plan for bankruptingAmtrak has already drawn fierce, bipartisan fire fromCongress. Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) sent TransportationSecretary Norman Mineta an angry demand for answersabout Bush’s plan “to push Amtrak into bankruptcy.”

Sens. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and Conrad Burns (R-Mont.), supported by 35 other senators including sevenRepublicans, asked the Senate Budget Committee to rejectBush’s proposal and fully fund Amtrak. A “bankruptcy shut-down of all Amtrak services” would “leave millions of ridersand thousands of communities without access to essential . .. transportation,” they wrote.

“Having failed to persuade Congress to pass legislation todestroy Amtrak” the administration “proposes to accomplishthis result by the back door,” said Rep. James Oberstar (D-Minn.) of the Transportation Committee.

IGNORANCE NOT BLISSThe chairman of the House International Relations

Committee’s Subcommittee on the Middle East and Asia, and potential chairman of the full committee, displayed anastonishing ignorance of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in aninterview with AFP April 19.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), when questioned, defended Israel’s meandering wall as necessary for Israel’ssecurity. She also said the wall had been moved “severaltimes” to satisfy complaints.

Critics of the massive, concrete security wall say it reachesout and grabs Palestinian orchards, vineyards and preciouswater supplies. It has also been moved to separatePalestinians from their jobs, homes and lands—but not tosatisfy complaints.

She minimized extensive reports of Israeli atrocities com-mitted in the occupied territories by Human Rights Watch andAmnesty International because of Israel’s transparency.

She also seemed unaware that 470 Israeli soldiers—up toand including the rank of major—have signed a letter refus-ing to serve in the occupied territories because of the atroci-ties inflicted on men, women and children. Or that 300Israeli university professors have signed a letter protestingthese atrocities.

She lauded the invasion of Iraq while expressing regretthat it has cost “1,500 lives”—at that moment, the U.S. bodycount was 1,547.

She also expressed strong support for Bush’s policy ofexporting democracy worldwide.

“As a super power, we can start a trend toward democra-cy,” she said.

SUBSIDIZING RICH FARMERSA bill pending before the Senate Agriculture Committee

would do much good but for the wrong reason. The Rural America Preservation Act (S. 385) would reduce

subsidies to rich farmers—including David Rockefeller andArcher-Daniels Midland of Bilderberg fame—which is good.

The motivation for the bill, however, is to enrich farmersin foreign countries, which is bad. Farm legislation shouldnever be a vehicle for foreign aid.

Sixty-seven percent of farmers receive no subsidiesbecause they don’t grow government-selected crops. Of the33 percent who are subsidized, the top 10 percent receiveover half (52 percent) of all payments.

Loopholes in current law allow industrial farms, the mostcommon recipient of subsidies, to collect payments thatexceed $1 million, according to Oxfam America. Oxfam is aninternational champion of world government with offices in15 nations, Washington and New York. Its objection is thatthese subsidies depress the price of crops in poor countries—it is unconcerned with depressing taxpayers’ pocketbooks.

Meanwhile, family farmers in the United States struggle tosurvive. Poverty is higher in rural America than elsewhere. Inthe Great Plains, more than one-fifth of households in farm-based counties have less than $15,000 in annual income.About one in eight urban households have such lowincomes. Twice as many urban households have familyincomes of $50,000 or more.

In the rural Great Plains, between 1990 and 2000, popu-lation declines were widespread in farm-based communities.Eighty-five percent of farm counties lost population over thedecade.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), low-ers the payment cap on agricultural subsidies by about 30percent—from the current $360,000 to $250,000 for indi-vidual recipients. President Bush wants to reduce subsidies by$587 million, or about 5 percent, in his new budget. The cutscould save $5.7 billion over a decade.

Industrial farms produce more than they can sell in theUnited States so they dump on the world market for less thanthe cost of production—because subsidies make it profitable.

“This drives prices down, making it impossible for familyfarmers in the United States and developing countries torecoup their costs,” Oxfam said at a briefing in Washingtonon April 13.

Oxfam said subsidizing industrial farms damages theenvironment. “The industrial agriculture system, while pro-ducing massive amounts of food, is taking a toll on our landand water resources,” Oxfam reported. “Massive amounts ofchemical pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and fertilizers areused every day on America’s industrial farms.

“Each year, 939 million pounds of pesticides are used, and a shocking 90 percent of these chemicals never reachtheir target,” Oxfam said. “They are released into the air andwater, as the many toxic chemicals are dispersed, they beginaccumulating in ground and surface water.”

Contaminated reserves of drinking water “cost millions ofdollars to treat, while untreated contamination of water inrivers and streams destroys aquatic life,” Oxfam said. “Thereare hundreds of documented cases of massive fish kills andpermanent ecosystem damage in America’s waterways causedby these chemicals.” ★

At the end of 2002 President Bushannounced that the United Stateswould rejoin UNESCO, an educa-tional agency of the United Nations. One year later the first

lady was dispatched to Paris for a ceremonymarking the end of our 20-year absence fromUNESCO, where she assured the world that the UnitedStates would be a “full, active and enthusiastic participant”in the organization.

Rejoining UNESCO, of course, means paying for it. Ournew commitment to UNESCO costs $60 million annuallyfor starters, fully one-quarter of the agency’s budget. Sadly, Ibelieve the administration made this decision as a conces-sion to our globalist critics, who decry supposed Americanunilateralism.

UNESCO stands for United Nations Educational, Scien-tific and Cultural Organization, which sounds lofty. Intruth, the agency is nothing but a mouthpiece for the usualUN causes, including international abortion and popula-tion control; politically correct UN curriculum for Americanschools; and UN control of federal land in America throughso-called World Heritage sites.

President Reagan rightly withdrew the United Statesfrom UNESCO in 1984, citing the organization’s financialmismanagement, blatant anti-Americanism and generalhostility to freedom. He believed the organization hadbecome too politicized, too bloated and too hostile to freemarkets.

Furthermore, UNESCO enjoyed rapidly expandingbudgets during the 1970s and 1980s, which Reagan feltAmerican taxpayers should not shoulder. Reagan was cor-rect in identifying UNESCO as an organization that did notact in America’s interest, and he was correct in questioningwhy the United States should fund 25 percent of UNESCO’sbudget for that privilege.

From its inception UNESCO has been openly hostile to

American values, our Constitution, and western culture. Why in the world should we send tax dollars to an organi-zation that actively promotes values so contrary to those ofmost Americans?

To better understand the origins and ambitions ofUNESCO, we need only consider a quote from Sir Julian

Huxley, brother of the famous Aldous Huxley. Julian Huxleywas the founding director-general of UNESCO when hesaid the following:

The general philosophy of UNESCO should be a scien-tific world humanism, global in extent. . . . It can stress . . .the transfer of full sovereignty from separate nations to aworld political organization. . . . Political unification insome sort of world government will be required . . . to helpthe emergence of a single world culture.

Those who supported rejoining UNESCO claim theorganization has been reformed over the years. Yet it’sstrange that in two decades since the United States leftUNESCO, we only started reading about purported reformsin the year 2000. Are we to believe that after nearly 20 yearsof business as usual, a large bureaucracy like UNESCO sud-denly reinvented itself in a few short years? Is it worthspending $60 million every year on an organization withsuch a terrible history of waste, corruption and anti-Americanism?

Reagan’s politically brave withdrawal from UNESCOportended an era of greater disengagement from the UnitedNations itself. Congress can revitalize that worthy goal byurging the administration to rethink its terrible decision toentangle the American people with an organization as rot-ten as UNESCO.

I recently introduced a congressional resolution urgingan official withdrawal from UNESCO, and I plan to attachthe resolution as an amendment to a foreign aid spendingbill this summer.

It will be interesting to see whether the same membersof Congress who savaged the UN before the Iraq war actu-ally vote to get America out of UNESCO. ★

Estimates of the numbers of U.S.jobs that will be moved overseasin the next decade can rangefrom six million to 14 millionbut one conclusion not in doubtin all surveys into outsourcing is

that Americans are not being told the wholetruth about the scale of the problem.

According to Goldman Sachs, six millionAmerican jobs will be transferred overseas inthe next decade. But a survey conducted atthe University of California at Berkeley putsthe total at 14.1 million.

Either way, the cost to the U.S. economywill likely be in the hundreds of billions ofdollars and the cost to millions of American families will beheartache and unemployment.

In just one employment sector—call centers—300,000jobs will end up in India and the Philippines over the nextfour years.

Already, companies that include HSBC, Citibank andGeneral Electric have established call centers abroad. And,as researchers have discovered, the estimates for outsourcedjobs do not include jobs likely to be moved to what is called“near-shore”—Latin American countries like Mexico.

While figures on future job losses vary, all investigatorshave found that when they asked the federal government, the White House and the hundreds of American companiessetting up shop overseas for data on outsourcing, all theygot was silence.

In fact there was a distinct lack of transparency in respectto labor statistics. For a start, there was no federal govern-ment department tasked with tracking the outsourcing ofjobs and the White House preferred the public to believethat outsourcing was a media myth.

And to that end, Republican mouthpieces like theHeritage Foundation tried, in a somewhat contradictoryway, to convince the rest of us that not only was outsourc-ing a myth but it had “little net impact.”

Of course, the same foundation, while denying the exis-tence of outsourcing also argued that it symbolized eco-nomic “efficiency.”

The hundreds of companies and corporations that arepart of outsourcing show no desire to be truthful abouttheir role in providing employment in India and China atthe expense of American workers. Many firms have beenunwilling to provide figures for the numbers of jobs theyhave outsourced because they fear that being publicly iden-tified with this trend could damage their image.

Some may fear that admitting to a role in outsourcingcould lead to a boycott by ordinary Americans aggrieved bymassive job losses.TALKING REAL NUMBERS

Evidence of the potential for outsourcing was availableas far back as 1998 when statistics showed the U.S. was los-ing its status as the country with the largest number of stu-dents annually awarded degrees in the natural sciences and

engineering. In 1998, 200,000 students in the United States

were awarded degrees in those categories but Chinaand India matched that number.

The significance of the figures was that India and Chinahad each rapidly closed a technology gap with the UnitedStates by building a specialized technology workforce

And now in 2005, India has one of the most advancedtechnical work forces in the world, handling over 85 percentof the outsourced American information technology, or IT,market. It is believed that within three to four years, India’sIT exports to America may well exceed $50 billion.

In 2003, a Merrill Lynch survey explained why it hadbecome more profitable to hire computer programmersoutside of the United States.

In that year, the American salary for a programmer wasin the $60,000 to $80,000 range. In contrast, India, China, the Russian Federation, Malaysia, Philippines, Poland andHungary were all in the $4,000 to $8,000 range. A similarsalary disparity applied to a long list of jobs involved inInternet and other technology processes.

In the cases of China and India, by 2003 those countrieshad evolved into areas with low salaries and large highereducation sectors, making them attractive to the U.S. servicesector. In India, one of the distinct benefits of its educatedwork force was its familiarity with English usage.

For evidence of how much damage has been done so farto the U.S. economy by the transfer of jobs abroad, youhave to rely solely on surveys by Business Week, GoldmanSachs, economy.com, Forrester Research and UC Berkeley.

Economy.com puts job losses at almost 1 million butmost experts believe even that figure is low.

The origins of the outsourcing of manufacturing jobscan be traced back to the first Bush administration. It quick-ly became a trend that gained greater momentum duringthe Clinton era and has since increased unabated.

Public attention was drawn to the problem after itbecame clear that over one million jobs were lost in theUnited States between 2001 and 2003.

Researchers found the jobs were in specific sectors—

computers, electronic products and professional and busi-ness services, including call centers and computer help-lines.

Other areas affected ranged from Internet serviceproviders to software publishing, data processing, payrollservices and medical transcription.

Of the jobs lost, one of the worst states hit was Californiawhere 200,000 were eliminated in the past few years.

A recent study conducted by Kate Bronfenbrenner, alabor expert from Cornell’s Industrial and Labor RelationsSchool, helps explain the scale of the outsourcing.

Ms. Bronfenbrenner and fellow researchers looked at48,417 jobs lost between January and March 2004. For thatsame period, the Bureau of Labor Relations only admittedto a job loss of 4,633 in the private sector, a figure Ms.Bronfenbrenner charged was a “gross underestimation.”

Faced with no government statistics for jobs outsourced,Ms. Bronfenbrenner and other Cornell researchers never-theless assembled enough data that eventually pointed to apotential job loss of several hundred thousand in 2004.

They also found that unemployed American workerswere denied compensation after their white-collar servicejobs moved overseas. That was because information-typejobs did not generate a “product” and therefore did notcommand compensation under the Department of Labor’sTrade Adjustment Assistance program.

The Cornell team also learned that of the 48,417 jobslost between January and March 2004, 23,396 went toMexico, 8,283 to China and 3,895 to India. The remainderof the jobs found their way to other Latin American andAsian countries. The states that suffered the greatest losseswere Illinois and Michigan.

If the UC Berkley survey’s projected job loss of 14.1 mil-lion is correct, and few organizations seem to doubt it, thenbetween 10 percent to 15 percent of the American workforce

will be at risk of losing their jobs over the next decade. Those most at risk will be workers whose jobs involve com-puter tasks such as data entry, data processing and tran-scription. In fact, any job connected to a product which canbe moved electronically will be vulnerable.

Statistics provided by organizations concerned aboutoutsourcing claim that 3,200 manufacturing jobs are trans-ferred overseas every 24 hours, resulting in a net loss of 1.2million jobs per annum. NATIONAL SECURITY

One issue lost in the debate is the security risk posed bythe transfer of personal information about American citi-zens to companies in India, China, Indonesia and thePhilippines.

Not only is identity theft rife in many of those countriesbut those with access to personal data on tens of millions ofAmericans cannot be monitored by U.S. security agencies.Information being held by foreigners includes emailaddresses, tax information, bank accounts and SocialSecurity numbers.CAN ANYTHING BE DONE?

Many observers of the outsourcing phenomenon areperplexed by the refusal of the Bush administration to pub-licly debate or to curb the job transfers. For some critics, itappears obvious to all but the White House that Americacannot continue to lose jobs at home in order to providework for the rest of the world.

Before the last presidential election, Bush claimedAmerica was creating more jobs than his critics argued. What he failed to add was that those jobs were lower-paidand lower-skilled than the ones that had been moved over-seas.

In effect, the Bush administration’s policy regarding out-sourcing can best be compared to its willingness to allowChina to flood America with cheap consumer products

while China and countries like India have in place protec-tionist policies to ensure the security and well-being of theirown workers.

The result is that every Chinese product bought inAmerica damages our manufacturing base and every joboutsourced further weakens our middle class.

Chinese imports are also providing China with a mas-sive dollar surplus, which it spends on modern weaponrythat someday could be used against the U.S. military shoulda war break out in the Taiwan Straits.

Opponents of outsourcing are beginning to argue thatall U.S. companies involved in moving jobs overseas, wherethere are low wages and even lower taxes, should pay heavyduties on their profits when they transfer them to theUnited States. In other words, outsourced profits should beregarded as imports.

It has also been suggested that if American companieswere forced to pay the same benefits to workers in ThirdWorld countries, as they are required to pay at home, theywould be more likely to keep the jobs at home.

There are members of Congress who feel the U.S. shouldfollow the example of China and India and put in placemeasures and tariffs to protect American workers ratherthan providing those countries with unfettered access toU.S. markets, especially at a time when China is deliberate-ly, and contrary to WTO rules, keeping its own currency lowby refusing to float it.

“If successful, that kind of protectionism, although inef-ficient from the point of view of the economy, may result inthe retention of some of the outsourceable jobs,” noted thesurvey. ★

Water shortages are frequently in the newsnowadays just as they have been off andon for over 50 years. But is it possible thatwater could be available in the hard rocksunderneath the Earth?

Hydrologists answer this question with a resounding no.They claim that all of the Earth’s water is either engaged ina continuing cycle of evaporation and rainfall, or trapped inunderground reservoirs where supply is limited by thecapacity of the reservoir.

On the other hand, there is evidence that their view ofthe world may be flawed.

On Feb. 14, 1956, the Peaty & Furman Construction andEngineering Company, excavating for construction of anaddition to the Harlem Hospital, encountered a flood ofwater as they removed hard rock 12 feet below the first floorof the adjacent hospital building.

Investigation proved that it did not come from theCroton Reservoir, the Harlem River or the nearby sewerpipes. Hospital personnel determined that it was fit for con-sumption without chlorination. Its temperature increased alittle at first, but leveled off at 68 degrees F independent ofthe weather.

Dr. Michael Salzman’s article about the probable sourceof this 3 million gallon per day (gpd) or 2,000 gallons perminute (gpm) flood at 136th St. and 5th Ave. in New YorkCity was published in The Engineering News Record. Salzmansuggested that the water came from deep within the Earth’scrust and was derived from geochemical processes occurringbetween rocks and minerals.

Ultimately the cement foundations of the hospital addi-tion closed off this conveniently located supply of waterwhen the weight of the structure was deemed sufficient tocounteract the pressure of the water.

Most New Yorkers know that their city sits on a rockyisland not favorably located for the collection and use oflocal streams. Hydrologists would not expect to find water

there because it is an inhospitable place for undergroundaquifers. Nevertheless in 1834 there was a 100 foot deepwell at 13th and Broadway which produced 21,000 gpd perday. And another at Broadway and Bleeker streets yielded44,000 gpd from a depth of 400 feet.

The idea that water can be obtained from the Earth’srocks is not new.

Aristotle in ancient Greece, Vitruvius in ancient Romeand Georgius Agricola in the Middle Ages all wrote aboutwater coming from within the Earth. Vitruvius wrote thatwater was best found, not in sands, gravels and soils, but inrocks. When the Israelites needed water in the desert,Yahweh told Moses to get it out of a rock.

Salzman’s New Water for a Thirsty World notes that thereare places where rain is scarce but supplies of water are plen-tiful.

For example Jericho, a very ancient city mentioned in theBible, has a veritable river pouring out of a rock for its watersupply. This has been an unfailing source of water for thou-sands of years.

Similarly, Nefta, an oasis in the Sahara Desert, has hadcopious amounts of water pouring out of the ground forcenturies, although rain only falls once every third or fourthyear. DIVINING

Where do these waters come from?Christopher Bird’s book, The Divining Hand, provides

much information about Stephan Riess, whose theories, put into practice, benefited many people. The fascinatingstory of how these theories developed and how they wereapplied is, by itself, worth the price of the book.

Riess’s interest in water from rock was initiated by adynamite blast in a deep mine located high on a mountain. When the dust cleared he was amazed to see water comingout of the hole in quantities greater than a 25,000-gpmpump could handle. The temperature and the analysis ofthe water showed that it wasn’t ground water. None of histextbooks was able to explain how water falling as rain in avalley could rise up almost to the top of a mountainthrough hard rock. Here was a mystery.

Late one night in a mine Riess said he heard a peculiarhissing sound and a trickle of water. These were the cluesthat led to the formulation of his theory. He observed thatthe mud, which usually lies under a layer of water when themine was not operating, had formed an arch over the waterand gas bubbles were rising through it. When he lit a matchthere was a small implosion indicating that the gas washydrogen.

Evidently Riess concluded that minerals in the mud werereacting to form hydrogen and water. ★

The fight to protect private property from seizuresby greedy government bureaucrats has expandedwith rural landowners in Washington state suingto stop a huge grab by local officials. The KingCounty ordinance, passed in the middle of the

night, requires rural property owners to set aside 50 to 65percent of their property in a permanent state of “naturalvegetation.” It prohibits building structures or improve-ments such as a home, barn, driveway or outbuilding onmore than10 percent of their land.MOST RESTRICTIVE

“The 65-10 rule is one of the most restrictive—andridiculous—regulations on the use of private property in theentire United States,” said Russ Brooks, attorney for thePacific Legal Foundation, which filed a lawsuit on behalf ofthe property owners.

“King County is basically telling rural landowners to for-feit two-thirds of their private property so [King CountyExecutive Officer] Ron Sims and King County can turn it intoa wildlife preserve for free,” Brooks said. “But real people liveand work in rural King County; it doesn’t exist solely as a

weekend playground for Mr. Sims and Seattle’s elites.”His statement was released on April 18.“Owning and enjoying private property are not mere

privileges that the government can deny at its whim,”Brooks said. “They are fundamental rights protected by theConstitution, specifically to protect citizens against this typeof dangerous government land grab.NO DIFFERENT

“The 65-10 rule is no different than if King Countypassed a law allowing people to use only 35 percent of theirbank accounts, retirement investments or homes,” Brookssaid. “Rural King County residents are basically being toldto flush up to two-thirds of their life’s investment down thetoilet.”

Under the Constitution, the government can condemnprivate property for “public use” but must pay fair compen-sation to the owner. Until recent years, “public use” wasconstrued as a highway or other needed public facility. Nowlocalities are condemning private property to turn over toother private citizens for commercial development toenhance tax revenues (AFP, April 25, 2005).

Rural residents are still required to pay taxes on all oftheir land, despite its devaluation. ★

How dumb can people be?? When billions of peopleflush their toilets, do they think this diseased water goes to themoon?? It goes into the ground water, into an aquifer and endsup at your faucet! That’s why drinking even “pure” bottled water

is like playing Russian Roulette. Don’t be fooled by lab tests!! State ofCalifornia: “We know you can find disease markers in water!! We can’t andno lab knows how to do it!” Our water kills bad bacteria, but not good bac-teria (see below)!! That’s why you need no chemicals in a hot tub. The timercycles the water through a filter to remove natural algae. Would you drink orsoak in water if it had chemicals in it strong enough to kill algae??

Expand the human life span: Unlike any other water, under a microscopedoctors can see an immediate change in the red blood cells of a cancer patient(your blood is 94% water)! Instead of being distorted or clumped together(like you are ready for a heart attack), the red blood cells turn nice and roundincluding plenty of movement needed to clear your arteries (letters on file)!A nurse called and said: “That’s why we have your machine! We can see animmediate change in the red blood cells! It’s amazing!!” Since we are engi-neers, not doctors, we will send you medical reports right out of the hospi-tal!! We challenge any other company to do that!! They can’t We’ve weak-ened the bonds. . . . Our hydrogen bond angle is 114° which is a function ofthe ability of water to pass through a membrane and into the cells!!

Prostate Cancer: 90% of all men will end up with a swollen prostate. Thirtyyears ago, after designing a water distiller that also produces energized tapwater, we received thousands of calls saying that before they bought ourmachine they developed prostate cancer because they couldn’t urinate regu-lar water, especially ordinary distilled (the hydrogen bond angle is only 101°. . . it’s dead), but they had no trouble with ours. We wondered why! Althoughour customers include some of the top scientists and engineers in the world,it was a UCLA doctor that had the medical and scientific equipment availableto help us find the answer!! We had weakened the bonds, causing the hydro-gen bond angle to increase to 114° with fantastic implications!!

Lou Gehrig’s Disease: They say it’s incurable and yet here’s a typical letteron file: “I was told I was incurable. When I received your machine they werespoon feeding me because my fingers were frozen solid and I certainly could-n’t write anything! Now, I am writing you this letter to show you I can movemy fingers!”

Diabetes: A man in Texas said: “They were going to chop off my foot!” Heput his foot in a garbage bag filled with our water, tied it around his leg andthe skin turned rosy pink! We have reports on practically any subject with nodownside . . . it’s only water!

Municipal Waste Lagoon: The municipality told the neighbors that it was“untreatable.” They would have to live with the horrible smell. A water treat-ment company: “After adding 1,000 gallons of energized tap water from yourmachine, the smell was virtually gone in 24 hours! That’s amazing!” also, itkills bad bacteria but not good bacteria . . . great for septic systems, no chem-icals or bad disease markers from human waste that find their way into theground water every time a toilet is flushed! They end up at your faucet or in“pure” bottled water (expiration date)! Purification doesn’t remove them (likethe CEA or PSA in your blood)!!

You are drinking somebody else’s waste right now! Wells eventually gobad and people wonder where their problems come from because theybelieve water purifier and bottled water dealers! May promises to be a month of historic impor-tance for Europe, because a fundamentalquestion of the continent’s political futurewill be largely determined by the outcome ofnational polls being held in Britain and

France. The question of paramount importance facingBritish and French voters is whether they will continue to beself-governing people living in sovereign nations or allowtheir nations to be absorbed into the undemocratic superstate known as the European Union (EU).

On May 5, Britons will go to the polls to elect membersto the British Parliament at Westminster. While the currentBritish government headed by Tony Blair of the New LabourParty is favored to win, he is being challenged by agroundswell of resistance to his warmongering in Iraq andhis willingness to merge Great Britain into the EU.

Reg Keys, an independent candidate who lost his son inIraq, is running for Blair’s seat in Parliament from Sedgefield. If Blair loses, he ceases to be prime minister.

“Tony Blair led this country into an illegal war on thebasis of weapons of mass destruction, which did not exist, and he asks us, with his schoolboy grin, to put this behindus,” Keys said. “The last time I saw my son, Tom, was at a rail-way station when he marched off down the platform withhis head held high, proud to do his duty for his country. Hebelieved what he was told. But the prime minister misled the

country, and Tom and 84 other soldiers, who had their oathof allegiance betrayed, came home in coffins—having diedfor a lie.”

French voters will vote in a referendum on May 29 todetermine whether France accepts the EU constitution ornot. Opinion polls suggest that the constitution will berejected by some 55 percent of the French electorate. Laborunions and farmers are strongly opposed to the constitution, which was developed by the former French president ValeryGiscard d’Estaing. A rejection of the EU constitution inFrance will set back, and could derail, the approaching EUsuper state.

When Britons vote in the general election on May 5, thequestion of whether Britain will merge with the EU orremain a sovereign nation is treated by the mainstreammedia and major political parties like “the elephant sittingon the sofa,” Trevor Colman, a United KingdomIndependence Party (UKIP) candidate from Teignbridge inDevon, told American Free Press.

The other leading parties are unwilling to discuss the EU,Colman said, because they all support Britain remaining inthe union.

During British elections for EU parliamentarians in June2004, running on the single issue of getting the UK out ofthe EU, UKIP did “spectacularly well,” coming in thirdbehind the Labour and Conservative parties. Twelve UKIPparliamentarians won seats in the EU parliament.

In the May 5 election, UKIP has nearly 500 candidates

running and is targeting 20 constituencies with the hope ofgetting “two or three” candidates elected to the British par-liament. This will give UKIP “a toehold” in WestminsterColman said. “They will be able to ask the questions” andopen the debate on the EU, he said.

“The survival of Britain as a free, democratic, self-govern-ing, sovereign state is again under threat,” Lord Stoddart ofSwindon, chairman of the Campaign for an IndependentBritain, said about the EU constitution in 2003. “This time itcomes from a European elite that is determined to destroythe nations of Europe and replace them with a centralizedcorporate super state—the United States of Europe.

“This would impose a written constitution on Britain andwe would be forced to surrender major and vital powers toBrussels. We would no longer be able to run our own econ-omy nor defend ourselves without the EU say-so.”

He said control of Britain’s foreign affairs and social poli-cies would pass to Brussels. “The European Union wouldtake for itself the right to interfere in every nook and crannyof our national life, even more than it does already,” saidStoddart.

“This could be the last election in a sovereign Britain;”Stoddart told AFP in a recent interview, “if they get the EUconstitution passed; it really won’t matter how we vote nexttime.”

Stoddart has fought against joining the EU since 1972,first in the House of Commons and, since 1983, in theHouse of Lords.

Asked how his peers in the House of Lords view his posi-tion on the EU, Stoddart said, “They are increasingly sympa-thetic; a lot of them now understand that the real power isresiding in Brussels, particularly on the Tory side.”

The British constitution is an unwritten agreement inwhich the king or queen embodies the sovereignty of thenation. “It works on the basis that her majesty acts on theadvice of her ministers,” Stoddart said, “but increasingly thatadvice is qualified by the European Council.”

Asked how the queen feels about the loss of British sov-ereignty to Brussels, Stoddart said, “We don’t know. But Icannot imagine that she can possibly be happy with thisposition. She is obliged to act on the advice of her ministers. She is in a constitutional prison.”

The British public’s freedom to take commonly usedvitamin and mineral supplements is just one “nook” withwhich the EU would interfere. An EU directive would elimi-nate over 300 widely used herbal remedies and alternativehealth products from the market and impose strict limits onthe potency of many others.

Currently, 55 percent of all legislation in Britain emanatesfrom the European Union, Stoddart said, “but only 8 percentof the representatives in Brussels are British, so we can beoutvoted by 92 percent.”

Under EU regulations, it is illegal to sell produce inBritish pounds and ounces. Neil Herron of SunderlandNorth is a former fishmonger and greengrocer who wasarrested for trading in imperial rather than metric measures.Herron is running as an independent candidate inSunderland.

“British politicians fit into one of three categories,”Herron told AFP, “the ignorant, the naïve, and the complic-it. A lot of them don’t understand the European project. They don’t realize that 70 percent of our laws are made byunelected, unaccountable commissioners in Brussels.”

Additionally, membership in the EU currently costsBritish taxpayers over 30 million pounds per day, accordingto UKIP figures. ★

On March 19, 2005, Greece became the fifthEuropean nation to surrender sovereignty tothe European Union (EU) when its parlia-ment accepted the EU constitution.

In accepting the constitution, Greece followed Italy,Lithuania, Hungary and Slovenia in abdicating its inde-pendence to the EU.

“We are witnessing the last remnants of national pol-itics,” Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Spain’s foreign minister, said in a Feb. 28 interview.

Asked if the constitution means the surrender of themember states’ sovereignty, Moratinos said, “Absolutely. The member states have already relinquished much oftheir authority in economic and civil affairs, includingjustice, freedoms, and security.

The French legal term “compétence” in the original ver-sion is used rather oddly in the English translation. Inlaw, compétence means legal authority or jurisdiction.

For example, Article I-6, giving the EU legal primacy, reads: “The Constitution and law . . . in exercising com-petences conferred on it shall have primacy over the lawof the Member States.”

Doubts that the EU constitution will replace nationstates of Europe with a centralized corporate super stateare demolished in the first pages of the 485-page docu-ment.

“The people of Europe are determined to transcendtheir former divisions,” the constitution’s preamblereads, “and, united ever more closely, to forge a commondestiny.”

“United in diversity [the EU motto], Europe offersthem the best chance of pursuing,” the confusing pre-amble reads, “ . . . the great venture which makes of it aspecial area of human hope.”

After listing 25 heads of government and foreign min-isters who signed the treaty in Rome on Oct. 29, 2004,the preamble concludes, “Who, having exchanged theirfull powers. . . .”

Asked what was meant by “having exchanged theirfull powers,” Lord Stoddart said, “It could mean any-thing.”

The exchange of power, however, becomes clear asone reads the constitution.

“This Constitution establishes the European Union,”it begins, “on which the Member States confer compe-tences [power] to attain objectives they have in common.

“Exclusive competence” [authority] is given to the EUin customs, competition, monetary policy, marine bio-logical resources, and commercial policy.

Furthermore, “The Union’s competence . . . shallcover all areas of foreign policy,” Article I-16 reads,“including the progressive framing of a common defensepolicy.”

Reminiscent of the former Soviet constitution, the EUtreaty reads, “Member states shall actively and unre-servedly support the Union’s common foreign and secu-rity policy in a spirit of loyalty and mutual solidarity.”

“If this is just a trading organization,” Lord Stoddarttold AFP, “why does the EU want a council, a parliament,a president, a foreign minister, an anthem, and a EuropeDay, which are the trappings of a nation? That provesthat it is not a trading organization, but a nation.” ★

By Michael Collins Piper

With the European Union on the verge oflifting its longstanding embargo on armssales to China, the Bush administration isputting modest pressure of Israel to curbits own lucrative arms trade with China.

The Chinese-Israeli arms nexus has been a longtimeembarrassment to many Americans in the defense estab-lishment who consider China a potential enemy.

Although defense experts have been concerned aboutIsrael’s continuing relationship with the Asian superpower, they are hesitant to criticize Israel’s deals with China for fearof being accused of anti-Semitism.

As a result, Israel’s ties to China are rarely mentioned andnever criticized except in the most cautious terms.

Now, however, because Israel has continued to engage inarms deals with China, despite previous promises to curtailthe trade, the Bush administration has set aside—at least forthe time being—an agreement allowing Israel to participatein the ongoing development of a radically new fighter jet,the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).

The program involves the sharing of highly sensitivetechnology. American patriots have been concerned aboutevidence that, time and again, Israel has shared U.S. defensetechnology with Israel’s communist Chinese arms partners.

Although, on previous occasions, the United States hasissued “warnings” to Israel about its cozy relationship withChina, this has not stopped Israel.

Meanwhile, two Washington-based policy makers whoare leading players in the pro-Israel neoconservative net-work have effectively admitted that Israel has been engaged

in a “dirty business”—selling arms to China—that consti-tutes “a genuinely hostile act against the United States.”

Dan Blumenthal, former senior country director forChina and Taiwan in the office of the secretary of defense, and Tom Donnelly, a member of the U.S.-China Economicand Security Review Commission, made the charges in acommentary published in The Washington Post on Feb. 20.

Note, though, that the neocon duo didn’t actually saythose things about Israel. Instead, they charged that becausethe EU is preparing to scrap its embargo on arms sales toChina that this is—in their words, a “dirty business” that is“a genuinely hostile act against the United States.”

However, in passing judgment on the EU, Blumenthaland Donnelly didn’t find it appropriate to mention that fordecades Israel was the top supplier of arms to China, withmuch of that “Israeli” technology being of U.S. origin. ★

The recent AFP article about Terry Nicholsand the OKC bombing contains a statement thatthis operation may have been a “sting goneawry.” This is obvious nonsense as the buildingwas without question—based on the physicalevidence—destroyed by interior bombs, andthese interior bombs were definitely not part ofa sting. The only possible purpose for an outsidebomb was to play a role in the cover-up.

MASON HESSVia email

(Some independent investigators believethere had to have been multiple federal opera-tions going on at the same time in OKC in1995 to account for explosives inside and out-side the Alfred P. Murrah Building. The theorygoes like this: While one group of federalagents was working with McVeigh, who wasplanning on setting off the ANFO bomb out-side of the building, a completely differentgroup was working with others, who set upbombs inside the building. This could explainreports of multiple explosions and the discov-ery of un-detonated bombs inside.—Ed.)

OFFENSIVEI find it offensive that AFP would publish in

the April 11 issue a cartoon depicting the SwiftBoat vets going after the Vatican. I just wrote yousaying, “God bless you for your fine work.” Nowthis? With so many good Catholics in this worldwho are fasting and praying for peace, you haveinsulted us at this hour of grief.

AGNES PETTIPAWMelrose, Illinois

(AFP did not intend to insult Catholics orthe Vatican with this cartoon. It was meant topoke fun at the Swift Boat Veterans for Truthgroup who went after John Kerry’s war recordbefore the last election, the idea being that thisgroup would have tried to smear even PopeJohn Paul II if the money was right.—Ed.)

LITTLE BIT OF SOCIALISMExcept for some minor disagreements, I

think American Free Press is essential reading forall citizens.

I believe in public transportation when it isprivately owned. Government owned trans-portation is socialism, and socialism is whatkilled the American dream.

A little bit of socialism is like a little bit ofcurrency inflation. They deceptively “oil” theeconomy. But our economy is oiled so well thatwe are now a bankrupt, second-class economy.

FUTURE SUCCESS Thank you for the issues you have been send-

ing me since my subscription expired last year.Letting my subscription expire was not a choice;it was a necessity. I live alone, do all my ownwork and am trying to live on Social Security. At91 years of age, it comes down to a choice of eat-ing or reading—and I will take the calories forright now.

I see no prospect of my finances improvingany time soon. But if they do, I certainly willsubscribe again. I miss American Free Press evenon the weeks you do not publish. You are doinga great job, and I hope you will eventuallybecome the number one newspaper in Americaas you deserve.

If everyone were aware of the informationyou put out, our brain-dead politicians mightmend their ways. Keep up the good work. I wishyou every success.

BILLIONS GONEEarly in the war it was briefly reported that as

American forces entered Baghdad they discov-ered and confiscated two semi truckloads of U.S.$100 bills in large bundles. At the time it wasestimated that each truckload held over $2 bil-lion.

What happened to that money? Why is it notbeing used to pay for the war in Iraq? Where isthis money today? Into whose pockets did it go?

LAWRENCE Q. MOHRHope, Idaho

(As AFP reported in the July 5, 2004, issue, billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars have beenpaid out to occupation authorities, executivesat U.S. defense firms and Iraqis. There hasbeen little accounting for these funds. It is any-one’s guess where this particularly large sumwent. Our guess is that it went into the pock-ets of Halliburton or some Iraqi “opposition”party in return for its support of the U.S.—Ed.)

Did They Really Say That?TERMINATE ILLEGAL ALIENS. California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger tolda group of newspaper publishers at the annual meeting of theNewspaper Association of America: “I think it is just unfair to have allthose people coming across, have the borders open the way it is, andhave this kind of lax situation. . . . Close the borders in California andall across Mexico and in the United States.”

★ ★ ★LAST RITES. At the National Association of Broadcastersconvention in Las Vegas on April 19, former ABC Newsanchor Sam Donaldson told news executives that hebelieves Americans are increasingly turning away fromnightly broadcast news to the Internet and cable: “Ithink it’s dead. Sorry, the monster anchors are through.”

★ ★ ★POPESS HILLARY. Washington Post gossip columnist RichardLeiby overheard Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) joking at a recent meeting:“Maybe we can elect Hillary Clinton pope. God knows what she’s run-ning for.”

★ ★ ★MUCH BETTER. “If things in Iraq are so much better, why are we not decreasing the number ofU.S. forces there? Why is the insurgency showing no signs of waning? Why are we being told thatin a few months the administration will again ask Congress for billions of dollars more to fightthe war? Why, according to the World Food Program, is hunger among the Iraqi people gettingworse? It’s time for some candor, but candor is hard to come by in Iraq,” writes Rep. JimMcGovern, who recently visited Iraq for one day for security reasons. “It is U.S. policy that con-gressional delegations are not allowed to spend the night.”

GAS FROM COALI have been wondering why there has been

no mention of using coal to make crude oil forthe production of gasoline? It is a process knownas coal liquefaction. The Germans started doingthis in the 1920s, and Standard Oil Companyacquired an interest in German I.G. FarbenCompany in 1929. Most of all of Germany’sgasoline used in WWII was produced from coal, and most likely it still is. Why isn’t this happen-ing in this country so fuel prices could startdeclining? It seems that some enterprising indi-viduals are missing a chance to get into the gaso-line business.

FIXING SOCIAL SECURITYIf Bush wants to help Social Security, why

doesn’t he just pay back the $1.28 trillionCongress has “borrowed” from the program and

never reimbursed? While we’re on that, why do congressmen

use taxpayer dollars for foreign aid? Shouldn’tthey be diverting money from global giveawaysto fund cuts in veterans benefits?

And Bush says we critics are hurting themorale of our troops! What does he think he’sdoing reneging on promises we made to ourservicemen and women?

Radioactivity of ‘DU’ Causing ‘Gulf War Syndrome’

AS AN OLD, RETIRED ENGINEER from the Rural Electrification Administration, Iam well aware of the radioactive hazards of the so-called “depleted uranium”(DU) fuel rods andthe care that must be exercised in removing these spent rods from power generation reactors.

For years it was a problem where to store these spent uranium fuel rods. The expression “spenturanium” seems to have misled many into believing they are harmless. While they are spent forthe purpose of extracting power from them in a reactor, they certainly are not spent in respect totheir radioactive hazards.

Beginning with Gulf War I, the U.S. military chose to use DU as armor-piercing projectiles. The choice seemed ideal. Uranium has a density 160 percent that of lead, thus giving the projec-tiles greater penetration power. Since storage has always been a problem to the power companies,it is free and abundant.

We are told that since it is “spent uranium” there is no radiation hazard. Whether this is anignorant mistake, or malicious indifference, does not make this mistake any less tragic. Uraniumhas a half-life of hundreds of years, thus the depletion of the radioactive “beta” rays of the ammu-nition is extremely slow. Even if as much as 20 years has passed since this DU came out of thereactor, it is still practically as radioactive as when it was first extracted.

Clearly, by using DU projectiles in Gulf War I, and the current war, we are endangering ourown forces, and we are also salting the areas where the battles are fought with radiation that willbe there into the middle of this millennium—or longer.

The documented evidence of this is contained in the after-action casualties from Gulf War I.As of 2000, there have been 11,000 deaths from “Gulf War Syndrome,” and 56 percent of thosewho served in this war are now listed as having permanent health problems.

The after-action casualties and health experiences are 10 times as high as that of WWII or theKorean War. This extends beyond the veterans into their families, where the incidence ofdeformed births has been noticeably higher than normal experience.

The only previous veterans to have any similar experience were those who took part in theBikini Atoll exercises after WWII.

Gulf War Syndrome is clearly nothing less than hazardous “beta” radiation exposure to DU.Use of these projectiles should be immediately stopped.

LET THEM EAT . . . COOKIES: While visiting President Bush’s ranch on April 11in Crawford, Texas, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (who appears to have hada few too many matzoh balls) is seen grabbing a handful of cookies with the Israeliflag on them offered by President Bush. The two met to discuss Iran’s nuclearambitions and Israel’s pullout of Gaza. In the April 25 issue, AFP reported on howSharon was scolded for failing to take steps to stop Jewish extremists from steal-ing Palestinian lands. It evidently didn’t affect his appetite.

The Erie Canal:That Narrow Ribbon of Waterthat Forever Changed the Courseof American History

THE HISTORY OF THE ERIE CANAL is a rivetingstory of American ingenuity. A great project that Thomas jef-ferson judged to be “little short of madness,” and that otherscompared with going to the moon, soon turned into one ofthe most successful and influential public investments inAmerican history.

In Wedding of the Waters: The Erie Canal and the Making of a Great Nation, best-sellingauthor Peter L. Bernstein recounts the canal’s creation with in the larger tableau of a youth-ful America in the first quarter-century of the 1800s. Leaders of the fledgling nation recog-nized that a pathway for commerce was critical to the security and expansion of theRevolution’s unprecedented achievement.

Bernstein examines the social ramifications, political squabbles and economic risks andreturns of this mammoth project. He goes on to demonstrate how the canal’s creation helpedbind the western settlers in the new lands to their fellow Americans in the original colonies, knitted the sinews of the American industrial revolution an even influenced profound eco-nomic change in Europe. WHO REALLY RULES AMERICA?“According to the Federal Reserve, the bottom 40 percent of the nation

owns less than one percent of the nation’s wealth, while the bottom 60 per-cent owns less than five percent. The top 20 percent of our population com-mands 83 percent of the wealth.” —The Washington Post, Feb. 8, 2005

Here are the facts—not the myths—about Zionist power in America . . .

Michael Collins Piper’s all-newblockbuster, The New Jerusalemexplains—for the first time everbetween two covers—who reallyconstitutes the “new elite” in the

United States today. Assembled from a widevariety of “mainstream” sources, this remark-able volume—184 pages of carefully-docu-mented information—is the most up-to-dateaccounting of the most controversial topictoday, a sensitive subject many Americanswhisper about, but which people worldwideotherwise openly discuss.

From the pen of the controversial AFP cor-respondent who brought you The High Priestsof War and Final Judgment, the JFK assassina-tion best-seller, The New Jerusalem is aninvaluable resource volume to refer to timeand again in debating with friend and foe alike, writing letters to the editor, calling radio talkshows, and in the course of research.

Here are just some of the highlights:

• A detailed overview of some 200 majorZionist families . . . Who they are. What theyown. Where and how they made their vast for-tunes. Some names you’ll recognize. Many youwon’t.

• The first-ever complete accounting of theZionist names appearing in the most recent(2004) list of the famous Forbes 400 list of thebillionaires and mega-millionaires in Americatoday.

• A comprehensive look at the Bronfmans, the organized crime family (originally based inCanada) that has gone “legitimate” andemerged as the undisputed “Royal Family” ofthe American Zionist movement.

• Death and political intrigue connected totwo major Zionist media empires . . .

• A detailed list of pro-Israel commentatorsin the major media in America . . .

• What about the Rockefellers and theRoosevelts?

• The little-known Zionist connection tothe infamous Enron debacle.

• A shocking expose of Zionist manipula-tion of the federal courts and of the U.S.Justice Department . . .

• The bizarre inside account of how afamous American billionaire (who is not evenJewish) rose to prominence and power withbehind-the-scenes support from high-levelZionist patrons.

• A revealing list of prominent figures (pastand present) accused of “anti-Semitism.”

• The secret story of how America’s firstJewish congressman fought to keep Irishimmigrants out of the United States—a realshocker suppressed by the history books!
