Un laser all'infrarosso per dimenticare aghi e punture

La ricerca di un sostituto per gli aghi - qualcosa che permetta di iniettare i

medicinali senza generare dolore né paura nei pazienti - non conosce soste.

Spara il medicinale direttamente sottopelle senza provocare dolore, come gli ipospray di Star Trek.

Dopo il cerotto e la siringa senz'ago, dalla Corea del Sud arriva un sistema che utilizza il laser per propellere il liquido da iniettare. Il dispositivo, creato alla Seoul National University, utilizza un laser infrarosso Er:YAG per generare una bolla di vapore ad alta pressione in una piccola sacca d'acqua, la quale così si espande rapidamente. Un'altra sacca, adiacente alla prima, contiene il medicinale; il suo contenuto viene rilasciato nell'acqua tramite un minuscolo ago. Il liquido viene quindi rilasciato alla velocità di ì 30 metri al secondo tramite un getto leggermente più largo di un capello; in questo modo ha la capacità di penetrare la pelle per alcuni millimetri, come hanno dimostrato gli esperimenti sugli animali. La differenza rispetto ad altri ipospray è che l'attivazione del dispositivo non è meccanica (generalmente tramite un pistone) ma avviene tramite laser: ciò consente di avere un controllo estremamente preciso sul dosaggio e sulla profondità della penetrazione nella pelle. Secondo i ricercatori, alla fine si riuscirà a creare un sistema per somministrare delle iniezioni in modo del tutto indolore; nel futuro immediato, gli scienziati vedono applicazioni per quegli scenari in cui è necessario somministrare piccole di medicinali dosi a grandi quantità di pazienti. Con del lavoro ulteriore si potrà arrivare a realizzare uno strumento che permetterà le vaccinazioni di massa per i bambini.

Bonjour à tous, je viens vous informer qu'une action caritative va se dérouler à partir du 28 mai et ce jusqu'au 10 Juin. Cette action consiste en une course pédestre réalisée par un collègue de travail pratiquant l'ultra fond au départ de Monaco vers Paris en 10 étapes de 100 Kms environ. Cette course est sous l'égide de l'association Carlesimo qui a pour but d'apporter un peu de réconfort à des enfants atteint de maladies orphelines et bien malheureusement pour quelques uns d'entre-eux en fin de vie . Un des véhicules d'assistance sera équipé d'une balise APRS avec l'indicatif F3A2LS-9 et visible sur le site APRS.fi. Si svolge in Piazza Garibaldi e vie limitrofe, ogni mercoledì sera, dal tramonto in poi, nel periodo estivo da maggio a settembre. Vi partecipano circa 100 espositori, provenienti da tutto il centro-nord d'Italia; svariate sono le merceologie accolte nel mercatino: mobili vecchi e antichi, quadri, pizzi, ceramiche, argenteria, orologi, bigiotteria, dischi, libri, collezionismo ed usato. Il mercatino di Cervia è un'ottima occasione per una passeggiata serale nell'accogliente centro storico della cittadina, per sbirciare tra le curiosità e le ottime occasioni proposte.

E' avvenuto regolarmente, alle 22:31 italiane del 28 maggio, il lancio della Soyuz che ha portato Luca Parmitano e gli altri due componenti della Expedition 36/37 a bordo della ISS, dove hanno attraccato poco dopo le quattro di questa mattina, 29 maggio. Parmitano rimarrà in orbita 166 giorni, durante i quali effettuerà due "passeggiate spaziali" e parteciperà a numerosi esperimenti, che riguardano soprattutto i cambiamenti fisiologici dell'apparato

muscoloscheletrico in condizioni di microgravità e e dei ritmi circadiani (red) E' avvenuto senza problemi, alle 22,31 di ieri, 28 maggio, il lancio della Souyz che ha portato un altro astronauta italiano sulla Stazione spaziale internazionale, raggiunta nel tempo record di 5 ore e 46 minuti grazie a un nuovo metodo di approccio, utilizzato in questo volo per la seconda volta. Insieme a lui, fanno parte della Expedition 36/37 due veterani dello spazio: il russo Fyodor Yurchikhin, 54 anni, alla sua terza missione sull'ISS, e Karen Nyberg della NASA, 43 anni, che nel 2008 è stata la 50esima donna a volare nell spazio. Battezzata "Volare", la missione di Parmitano durerà 166 giorni, durante i quali parteciperà a numerosi esperimenti dell’ESA che riguarderanno importanti questioni nel campo della fisiologia umana, la biologia, la fluidodinamica e la scienza dei materiali. Le condizioni di assenza di gravità, o meglio di

24 microgravità, presenti in orbita, sono infatti un importante banco di prova non solo per l'organismo umano ma anche per il comportamento della materia allo stato liquido e nelle transizioni di fase. Un primo esperimento riguarderà la reazione delle cartilagini, che verrà studiata effettuando scansioni in risonanza magnetica nucleare delle ginocchia degli astronauti prima e dopo la missione, e dei muscoli, che nello spazio tendono a perdere massa, un processo che viene contrastato mantenendo un costante livello di esercizio fisico. Anche in questo caso, verrà valutata la capacità di contrazione dei muscoli di Parmitano prima della partenza e dopo il suo rientro, e verrà effettuato un prelievo di tessuto muscolare per un'analisi istologica. Un'altra opportunità di studio è offerta da fatto che Parmitano così come gli altri astronauti vedranno ogni giorno 16 albe e altrettanti tramonti, con un prevedibile effetto sui normali ritmi circadiani dell'organismo, che sarà valutato misurando costantemente la temperatura corporea e i livelli di melatonina. Nel campo della fisica, con l'esperimento denominato FASES verranno studiati i problemi di stabilità in assenza di gravità delle emulsioni, cioè delle dispersioni di un liquido in un secondo liquido con cui non si mescola, e in particolare le caratteristiche delle goccioline che le compongono. Sempre nell'ambito della fluidodinamica, verranno studiati nel dettaglio anche i moti delle particelle che compongono miscele di fluidi, lontano dalle condizioni terrestri, in cui la presenza della gravità induce il liquido con il maggior peso specifico a occupare la parte bassa del contenitore. La presenza a bordo di una fornace in grado di raggiungere i 1400 °C consentirà di studiare la solidificazione dei metalli in condizioni di microgravità, raccogliendo dati che potrebbero essere utili per realizzare leghe di alluminio sempre più efficienti per l'industria dei trasporti. Oltre a questo fitto programma scientifico, sono previste per l’astronauta italiano due attività extra-veicolari (EVA), con lo scopo

d’installare nuovi equipaggiamenti e ritirare gli apparati degli esperimenti ormai conclusi: Parmitano sarà il primo italiano a passeggiare nello spazio.

Nubi di gas individuate fra 2 galassie: sono spia della presenza della materia oscura

C'è un grappolo di misteriose e dense nubi di idrogeno fra due galassie vicine, Andromeda e il Triangolo. Queste bolle rarefatte di gas potrebbe essere la spia della presenza di materia oscura che potrebbe essere l'impalcatura gravitazionale su cui le nubi si sono condensate. Pubblicata su Nature la scoperta si deve a un gruppo coordinato da Spencer Wolfe dell'università americana West Virginia. Le nubi, ciascuna grande quanto una galassia nana, potrebbero costituire una fonte di idrogeno neutro che in futuro potrebbe cadere sulle due galassie alimentando la nascita di nuove stelle. Nubi si muovono nello spazio alla stessa velocità delle due galassie - "Precedenti osservazioni fra le due galassie - ha osservato Wolfe della West Virginia University a Morgantown - hanno suggerito la presenza di idrogeno, ma non abbiamo potuto vedere tutti i dettagli per determinarne le caratteristiche o per vedere se si trattava di un nuovo tipo di struttura cosmica". collaborazione con il Comune di Comacchio e la Provincia di Ferrara ha pensato di creare alcuni eventi radiantistici di sicuro interesse, fra cui anche quest’anno l’apripista sarà IL “DVC” - DIPLOMA VALLI DI COMACCHIO (Giugno ÷ Settembre 2013), attività che lo scorso anno in occasione della prima edizione ha visto un risultato di oltre 2000 QSO (collegamenti) internazionali.

La nostra proposta è da intendersi quale integrazione, espansione e realizzazione delle principali attività insite nelle nostre primarie finalità

hobbistiche e radiantistiche quindi il desiderio di stabilire rapporti di amicizia e collaborazione in generale, con persone sparse in tutto il mondo appartenenti ad aree culturali diverse, al di là delle frontiere politiche, delle differenze di colore, razza, e religione.

31 In gergo tecnico proporremo delle vere e proprie “attivazioni” in portatile (IQ4FF/P) rivolte alla conoscenza del territorio e nello specifico di monumenti storici, musei, eventi culturali, eventi sportivi, particolarità orografiche del territorio locale ecc..

Per entrare nello specifico del DVC - Diploma Valli di Comacchio, come

seconda edizione proporremo una serie di 4 attivazioni (su 4 Locator diversi) relative a 4 Valli di Comacchio (+ 1 stazione Jolly) e ciliegina sulla torta, le QSL ne riguarderanno e ne riproporranno graficamente le peculiarità storiche, culturali e naturalistiche.

Le QSL inoltre conterranno una breve ma esaustiva descrizione di quanto riproposto graficamente quindi guideranno il DXer che ne verrà in possesso in una affascinante ed avvincente racconto intriso di storia e traboccante di tradizioni popolari.

Vi invitiamo pertanto a leggere il regolamento a partecipare attivamente all’evento e a venirci a trovare nel nostro magico e meraviglioso territorio per vivere con noi le tradizioni secolari e le ghiottonerie gastronomiche locali quali “al buratal sciapà in gradala”, “ al brudat a bac d’aesan”, “i mamen”, “la maroca”….. sicuri di aver stuzzicato il Vs. appetito e certi di aver stimolato la Vs. sete di DX vi aspettiamo on-air in 20 e 40 m a partire dall’ultimo week-end di Giugno per terminare a fine Settembre quindi avrete tutto il tempo per gustarvi i nostri ghiotti collegamenti e placare la Vs. sete di DX.

1. Il Diploma Valli di Comacchio (in seguito DVC) è indetto dalla Sezione A.R.I. 4402 del Basso Ferrarese, call ministeriale IQ4FF, al fine di divulgare la conoscenza delle bellezze paesaggistiche, il patrimonio naturalistico, avifaunistico e della cultura rurale valliva del nostro territorio.

2. Il DVC è patrocinato dal Comune di Comacchio e dalla Provincia Ferrara 3. Il DVC è aperto a tutti gli OM ed SWL Italiani e stranieri. 4. Hanno validità tutti i collegamenti effettuati con IQ4FF/P in occasione delle attività in portatile

effettuate secondo il previsto calendario nelle quali, al fine di divulgare il patrimonio di cui all’art.1, verranno attivati i seguenti siti:

Sabato 25 maggio assieme a Matteo IZ3SSB sono andato ad attivare la "Riserva dei laghetti di Martellago". Alle otto è venuto in Piazzale Roma a Venezia a prendermi e dopo venti minuti di viaggio eravamo dentro la riserva; purtroppo dovevamo aspettare il proprietario del bar per poter installare la radio. Verso le 9.45 arriva e finalmente comincio per primo a trasmettere. I primi (e sono sempre loro..)sono stati I5FLN e IK1GPG ( mi sa che hanno delle antenne che sentono l'odore di chi trasmette) dopo ho dovuto andare per numeri dal QRM che c'era.

Propagazione lunga segnali forti da ON- OK F-DL e pochi qso con italiani, in 20 m.discreta (fatalità....) anche in 20 m I5FLN mi ha collegato...conclusione 159 qso .Dopo ho dato una mano a Matteo IZ3SSB in 20 m anche lui con circa 90 qso. Giornata fredda e piovosa e a fine attivazione, una bella carbonara salame e porchetta e un'ombra de vin per chiudere in bellezza. Villa Griffone casa paterna di Marconi fu donata dai famigliari, alla morte dello scienziato, alla Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi che era stata costituita per tenere vivo il ricordo storico e scientifico del grande bolognese. Le spoglie di Marconi dovevano essere trasferite nel luogo, dove egli aveva trascorso l'infanzia e la giovinezza, «compiendo quegli esperimenti» che avevano dato un imprevedibile impulso agli studi sulle radiocomunicazioni. "La fusione fredda italiana funziona". Nuovo test indipendente per E-Cat

Primi risultati sul dispositivo prodotto dall'ingegnere italiano Andrea Rossi sembrano verificarne il funzionamento escludendo reazioni termochimiche. Il giornale finanziario Forbes si sbilancia: "Il mondo potrebbe cambiare", ma l'ambiente scientifico è cauto: mancano i dati sulla produzione di rame e sul catalizzatore. E soprattutto la peer review.

LA FUSIONE FREDDA attraverso il sistema E-Cat, un modo di produrre energia usando l'atomo in modo inedito, inizia a ricevere approvazioni esterne all'ambiente di sviluppo. L'idea è di Andrea Rossi, ingegnere italiano: L'E-Cat è una macchina che produce calore attraverso un processo nucleare a bassa energia, detto "volgarmente" fusione fredda. Una tecnica che genera energia a temperature molto più basse da quelle di fusione nucleare, allo stesso tempo in maniera più semplice e sicura. L'idea della fusione fredda viene dal

49 lavoro di Martin Fleischmann: le sue tecniche sono state oggetto di esperimenti in tutto il mondo, sempre discussi. Il lavoro di Rossi è uno di quelli che ora pare appartenere alla seconda categoria. E potrebbe essere l'uovo di colombo per la ricerca attuale. Il lavoro di Rossi ha sollevato entusiasmi e polemiche in egual misura, ma ora arrivano i risultati di test indipendenti sull'E-Cat. Richiesti a gran voce dalla comunità scientifica. E con dei risultati che ne dichiarano il funzionamento. A scriverne è Forbes, un giornale finanziario, prima di ogni pubblicazione scientifica. L'ambiente della ricerca sull'E-Cat ci va cauto. E non è difficile immaginare che se l'E-Cat si rivelasse un progetto scalabile, in grado di produrre energia in quantità importanti, le ripercussioni non mancherebbero sul mondo accademico che finora non ha manifestato entusiasmo per l'idea di Rossi. Forbes si sbilancia: "Forse il mondo cambierà davvero", scrive riferendosi ai test sull'E-Cat. A lungo rimandati e su cui per mesi non si sono visti aggiornamenti, tanto da far dubitare che Rossi avesse davvero qualche possibilità di verifica sulla sua idea. Ma a sostenerla arriva ora il rapporto del professor Giuseppe Levi dell'Università di Bologna, con Evelyn Foschi, Torbjörn Hartman, Bo Höistad, Lars Tegnér e Hanno Essén, Roland Pettersson. Uno studio che dichiara come la LENR (low energy nuclear reaction) nell'E-Cat di Rossi possa generare rame e calore partendo da atomi di nichel e idrogeno. Due sono gli esperimenti che hanno portato alle conclusioni: uno svolto nell'arco di 96 ore dal 13 al 17 dicembre 2012, e l'altro di 116 ore dal 18 al 23 marzo 2013. Le condizioni degli esperimenti erano differenti, ma il parere finale decretava il funzionamento di E-Cat. A dicembre marzo il sistema avrebbe sprigionato 160 kWh per un consumo di circa 35 kWh. A marzo la produzione sarebbe stata di 62 kWh, consumo 33 KWh. La squadra di ricercatori esclude reazioni termochimiche e scrive che la produzione energetica deve essere associata alla fusione dei due elementi. Oppure, altre spiegazioni non ce ne sono. I problemi comunque non mancano. Non ci sono dati sul rame prodotto, o sul combustibile utilizzato durante i test. Su

questo, c'è riserbo da parte di Rossi. Sarebbe un composto di nichel, idrogeno e un catalizzatore mantenuto segreto. La comunità scientifica denuncia poi la mancanza di "peer review", e stavolta entra in gioco anche un'azienda esterna, la Prometeon, unica licenziataria per E-Cat in Italia e a San Marino, che invece ne dichiara l'avvenuta esecuzione. Tutti elementi che fanno pensare come anziché una certezza su E-Cat, stia per iniziare un percorso di ulteriori dubbi. Tra procedure scientifiche non ortodosse e parole di un certo peso che arrivano da Forbes: "O si tratta di una delle truffe più elaborate della storia della Scienza, oppure stavolta il mondo potrebbe cambiare davvero. La velocità di questo cambiamento dipende esclusivamente da Rossi".

ORMAI QUASI non ci si preoccupa più di salvare quello che c'interessa dopo averlo individuato su internet: tanto è tutto lì, galleggia nello sterminato universo del web. L'arrivo delle soluzioni cloud, poi, ha dato il colpo di grazia a certa abitudini spingendoci alla delocalizzazione forzosa dei contenuti. Siamo insomma convinti che in qualche modo recupereremo quella pagina, quella foto, quel video, quel documento. Sbagliato. C'è un pezzo, uno dei più importanti se non il più pesante in assoluto per la storia della Rete, almeno per come la conosciamo oggi nel suo impianto ipertestuale che ha cambiato il mondo, che non si trova più: la prima versione della prima pagina del World Wide Web, il cui ventennale è stato celebrato il 20 aprile scorso. Se n'è accorto un team di ricercatori proprio lì dove l'internet moderno, o meglio il modo di navigare in quello che era "solo" un network fra calcolatori che parlavano lingue e codici diversi, è nato: ai celeberrimi laboratori del Cern di Ginevra, in Svizzera. Gli scienziati stavano raccogliendo tutto il materiale possibile risalente ormai a quasi venticinque anni fa per allestire un progetto battezzato Restoring the First Website destinato a preservare i "fossili tecnologici" di un periodo irripetibile. Proprio in occasione dei vent'anni dal rilascio del codice sorgente in pubblico dominio da parte dell'istituto svizzero. Un archivio e al contempo l'eredità di un'epoca che va scomparendo. Spulciando fra hard-disk e vecchi floppy disk, l'atroce scoperta: la prima pagina web in assoluto architettata da Tim Berners-Lee, l'informatico britannico co-inventore del World Wide Web insieme al belga Robert Cailliau, non si trova più. Il primo passo, l'abbozzo della porta d'accesso alla Rete, fino al 1989 riservata a un ristretto pubblico di esperti e accademici, sembra scomparso nel nulla.

A occuparsi di questa galleria virtuale di memorabilia è Dan Noyes, che oggi gestisce la comunicazione e l'immenso portale del Cern: "Berners-Lee e i suoi colleghi erano così occupati nel convincere la gente a impegnarsi nel progetto che non hanno avuto modo di tenere traccia delle loro primissime creazioni - racconta Noyes - probabilmente il team, all'epoca, non aveva realizzato quanto fosse speciale quel materiale. E quindi non pensò di doverne fare copie o salvarlo in modo particolare". Bel pasticcio, la genialità. Quanto di più vicino ci rimanga è datato 1992: si tratta di una versione successiva del primo ipertesto, quella sorta di "great big book" - come lo chiamava lo stesso scienziato inglese per spiegarlo facilmente a chi gli chiedeva cosa diavolo fosse quel www, codice e browser al contempo - messa al sicuro in un floppy disk usato per un po' di tempo per alcune dimostrazioni. Il mese scorso quelle pagine embrionali sono state messe a disposizione sul sito del Cern. Anche se, a quanto pare, frugando nel passato qualcosa continua a saltare fuori. Si tratta di una versione più vecchia delle presentazioni del 1992, appena scovata dal professore statunitense Paul Jones, già in contatto con Berners-Lee in occasione di una conferenza texana, nel suo vecchio NeXT. Risale al 1991. Almeno qualcosa, di quegli anni d'oro, sembra essersi salvato. Anche se della prima pagina, ancora nessuna traccia. La storia della prima pagina che non si trova più apre in realtà uno scenario ben più ampio: la presunta eternità della Rete, infatti, è poco più di un'illusione. "Il Web non è stato costruito per essere conservato - dice Brewster Kahale, fondatore dell'Internet Archive di San Francisco, un'associazione no profit che salva dall'oblio del nulla quasi un miliardo di pagine a settimana - la vita media di una pagina internet è infatti 100 giorni. E dei prodotti realizzati con i primi protocolli Gopher, FTP o Web, non rimane spesso che uno screenshot". Dan Noyes è convinto però che il primissimo seme del Web sia ancora lì fuori, da qualche parte, e che non ci si possa accontentare delle versioni di due anni più recenti. punti critici e preziosi della macchina, almeno quanto le ruote e i freni, basta infatti pensare ai sistemi che gestiscono la frenata

assistita o che aiutano durante la partenza in salita. Due ricercatori hanno dimostrato che è semplice entrare nei network interni che operano sui motori e i freni dei veicoli. Anche Jack ha parlato del problema, illustrando una ricerca svizzera sulle chiavi elettroniche delle auto.

Finora non esistono casi - Anche se ad oggi non ci sono prove concrete e testimoniate che qualche hacker sia entrato in un computer di un’automobile per comprometterne la sicurezza o anche solo rubarla, le lobby industriali stanno studiando il problema, per evitare i cyber attacchi in futuro, anche in vista di un sempre maggiore accesso dall’abitacolo ad Internet.

Paura per il futuro - Secondo Stefan Savage dell’Università di San Diego: "L’industria automobilistica ha il benefit dell’esperienza già condotta fin qui con i PC”. Infatti, maggiori è la presenza dei computer all’interno dei veicoli, tanto maggiore sarà la possibilità che le automobili siano vulnerabili come un normale PC. I computer interni monitorizzano e controllano diverse funzioni: freni, alimentazione, trasmissione air bag e alte funzioni automatiche. E nel prossimo futuro le connessioni Wireless prenderanno sempre più piede: già oggi raccontano la posizione di

un veicolo e provvedono ad informare specifiche centraline sulle funzioni dell’automobile, alcune compagnie stanno anche studiando la possibilità di creare applicativi con cui gestire parte delle funzioni dell’auto anche con attraverso gli smartphone.

Prova di laboratorio - In un documento presentato alla Computer Security Conference lo scorso anno il professor Savage e Yoshi Kohno, docente di computer science presso lUniversità di Washington, hanno descritto come i propri team di ricerca sino riusciti a bypassare i sistemi interni di alcune automobili e come sono riusciti a controllarne, in parte, le funzioni vitali, ingorando gli input imposti dal pilota. Tra le funzioni manipolate dall’esterno, hanno eseguito: la disattivazione dei freni, la selezione di una frenata su una sola ruota del veicolo, lo stop all’alimentazione del carburante.

Anche le gomme - Altre ricerche hanno evidenziato simili allarmi: un team di ricercatori della Rutgers University e dell’University della South Carolina ha mostrato la vulnerabilità dei netowork wireless che controllano la pressione delle gomme: dalla distanza di 40 metri, hanno bypassato il sistema di sicurezza identificando le gomme, e la loro pressione, di un veicolo che transitava normalmente sulla carreggiata.

Si corre ai ripari? - L’industria dell’auto, fortemente allarmata, sta correndo ai ripari: entro un anno si dovrebbero creare gli standard per la futura sicurezza anti-hacker dei veicoli a 4 ruote. Anche se i responsabili ricordano che "questi sistemi non sono costruiti con firewall su firewall”. C’è anche da segnalare che, ad oggi, non è che sia proprio facile entrare nei computer interni di una automobile: i ricercatori dell’Università di Washington hanno dovuto lavorare per due anni, prima di riuscire a bypassare il sistema messo sotto attacco.

La maschera dei superpoteri esiste la tecnologia si avvicina a "Iron Man"

Un amplificatore sensoriale indossabile permette di analizzare la realtà in tempo reale potenziando le funzionalità dell'udito e della vista. Come nei film tratti dai fumetti Marvel. Ancora un progresso nel campo della tecnologia indossabile, su cui stanno investendo tutti i big del settore. TONY STARK, l'alter ego del tecnologicissimo Iron Man, esiste solo nella fantasia (e negli incassi al botteghino). Ma se la sua armatura capace di fare tutto rimane per ora confinata alla finzione, c'è un progetto del Royal College of Art di Londra che invece appartiene alla realtà. Si chiama progetto Eidos e si basa su una maschera ad alto contenuto elettronico, divisa in due parti, capace di amplificare la portata e la funzionalità dell'udito e della vista. Un vero e proprio dispositivo, per ora a livello di prototipo, che però in un prossimo futuro potrebbe diventare qualcosa di molto simile al casco del personaggio creato dalla Marvel. La maschera. Si tratta in realtà di due unità distinte, una per la parte inferiore del viso e una per quella superiore. Il prototipo esistente al momento copre bocca, orecchie e naso. Attraverso l'uso di un microfono direzionale può amplificare l'audio proveniente da una determinata sorgente anche in un ambiente rumoroso, ad esempio per udire le parole di una persona specifica in una stanza con molte voci che si sovrappongono. Un gatto delle nevi ultratecnologico

Il rover, che si sposta su due cingoli da neve, funziona a energia solare, una caratteristica che gli permette di lavorare giorno e notte, senza sosta, durante la lunga estate artica, e di spostarsi sul precario strato di ghiaccio senza inquinare. Un doppio set di pannelli solari disposti a "V" ricava elettricità dai raggi del sole e dal riverbero della luce sulla neve. Troppa igiene fa male alla salute, anche i germi contribuiscono al nostro benessere

L'immagine forte è stata appositamente scelta come copertina del magazine New York Times per lanciare un preciso messaggio: bisogna essere tutti un po' più sporchi per mantenere e far crescere l'equilibrio dei microbi che vivono dentro e sopra di noi. Lo scrive Michael Pollan, docente di giornalismo alla Berkeley University of California che firma il servizio definendosi non più un semplice uomo ma un “superorganismo”, da quando il laboratorio del BioFrontiers institute della University of Colorado, di Boulder, gli ha sequenziato il “microbiome”, quello che lui ha chiamato ironicamente il suo secondo genoma: quello dei microrganismi che vivono nel suo corpo e che al contrario del primo si può modificare continuamente. I germi contribuiscono al nostro benessere - Il “microbiome” include diverse centinaia di specie microbiche che condividono il suo corpo dentro e fuori, per oltre 100 milioni di batteri. Per ogni cellula vivente del nostro corpo abbiamo 10 microbi residenti, commensali (innocui scrocconi, li chiama Pollan), mutualistici (che ci aiutano) e, in pochi casi, patogeni, sottolinea il giornalista.
