The Morton Plant Mease Diabetes Education Center welcomes a new registered diabetes educator, Gwen Enfield, to the department. Gwen is a certified diabetes educator and is available to provide individuals and team members with diabetes education services through the center and their programs. These services range from diabetes self-management education classes, one-on-one diabetes education, gestational diabetes education, refresher education and medical nutrition therapy.

Most team members are not aware they have three individual nutritional counseling sessions per year available. These services are paid by the BayCare Health Plan at 100 percent. Diabetes management counseling is unlimited under all plan options and is covered at 100 percent with no out-of-pocket to the patient. Services are provided at Mease Countryside Hospital, Morton Plant

Hospital, Morton Plant North Bay Hospital and Bardmoor Outpatient Center. Referrals are welcome from BayCare physicians and physicians outside our BayCare home.

Gwen Enfield brings years of experience and expertise to the department. Gwen and the other professional educators are eager to provide assistance. There are three registered nurses and two registered dietitians on staff. In addition, they are fortunate to have a care coordinator who can identify barriers and find solutions for self-care and other needs. Interested individuals may reach the Diabetes Education Center at (727) 734-6888.

Diabetes Education Services for Patients and Staff

New Clinical New Hire Orientation ProgramThe Clinical Education and Training department has recently redesigned the Clinical New Hire Orientation. This interactive and engaging program is designed to educate new clinical team members on how to deliver the highest level of patient care. The orientation provides in-depth clinical education and tools regarding key competencies, professional etiquette and clinical skills to help transition new hires into their new role with BMG.

During training, new hires will be introduced to BMG and will gain an understanding of key areas such as service excellence, team-based care and PCMH. The program has a strong emphasis on quality, risk and patient safety. There are many hands-on clinical activities, group breakout sessions and patient/clinician role-

play scenarios to help new team members feel comfortable with working in an office setting.

All new RNs, LPNs and MAs are required to attend this class. Orientation is held on a biweekly basis on Fridays at the Eisenhower facility in Suite 370. For any additional information, contact Melissa Malone at (727) 532-1339.

Our New Providers The Referral Corner

One outcome of joining several groups is similarities in practice names. In addition, some of those names no longer “ring true” as the practice may have moved or the building or complex for which it was called may have changed their own name. Although current practice names are recognizable internally, some can be confusing to patients.

A committee of team members from several departments worked together to develop a new slate of names to be used in Cactus, which will then pull into a variety of areas seen by the public, such as our marketing materials and website. Most names remain the same, others had only minor tweaks. You will see some of these changes in the near future.
