MORNING ASSEMBLY ROUTINES As part of our morning routine across the school we will be asking parents at each of the assemblies to make their way to the gates after the bell goes and their child is sitting in class lines. This allows for clearer communication of daily notices to students and also frees up the walking routes to classrooms when walking students in 2 straight lines. We will remind parents each morning of this procedure and thank you for your support and cooperation in this matter.

SPLASH-A-THON FRIDAY 20 MARCH Our biggest fundraiser of the year is fast approaching, so now is the time to get those donations lined up for your child. Remember the P&C have major prizes for the top fundraisers throughout the school. Please assist our school by supporting your child in getting donations from sponsors for the Splash-a-thon. Parents are also asked to volunteer some time to run particular parts of the event on the day and are required to complete some paperwork before getting involved. Student safety is always of paramount importance on this day and we thank parents in advance for helping make this year’s Splash-a-thon a success.

PAYMENTS TO SCHOOL – FRIENDLY REMINDER We appreciate that the beginning of the school year is always a busy time for families getting organised and puttling routines in place. We would like to take this opportunity to offer a friendly reminder to families that some payments are due now including Workbook Fees, School Contribution ($60.00 per family) and Technology Fees ($20.00 per child). If you are having difficulty meeting these payments then please contact the school office to make an appointment with one of our deputy principals to discuss what arrangement or payment options can be made.

ZONE SWIMMING CARNIVAL Congratulations to those students who participated in the Zone Swimming Carnival today. We had many students who swam personal best times and represented our school with pride and fair sportsmanship. Well done boys and girls!

Chad Tsakissiris – Deputy Principal

STUDENT PARLIAMENT – RECOUNT Our first parliament sitting for 2020 took place last Thursday 5 March. We had 3 motions but because of timing issues we could only debate 2 of the motions. In the end they were both carried. Mr Jackson quickly gave us a run-through of how parliament will work. All roles were given and confirmed.

P&C March Meeting tonight: 7:00pm in the staff room

Each month the P&C team meet up to discuss fundraising, as well as ideas for spending the money we raise on the kids at Umina Beach Public School, and this month is no different, so please come along and join us tonight (Tuesday 10 March) at 7:00pm in the main office at school. Meeting at this later time slot on a bi-monthly basis allows our working parents the opportunity to also come along, and we do hope to see you there. You can bring a friend, an idea, or just come along and listen to the update of what’s going on within your UBPS community and P&C!

Note: This month, in addition to our regular meeting agenda, we will be voting in the following official office bearing titles to P&C members as part of our planned Annual General Meeting:

President, 2020 Vice President (x2) 2020 Secretary 2020 Treasurer 2020 Uniform Shop Coordinator 2020 Uniform Shop Treasurer 2020 Delegate to Federation (x2) 2020

Allocating volunteers to these roles not only helps us meet our obligations as school community P&C Association, it also provides a formal team of volunteers who each take on the responsibility of a regular commitment to the P&C, and making our charity organisation a success. You may want to nominate yourself or a friend to take on one of these roles, and if you’re a 2020 paid member of the P&C, you can cast your vote and decide who you want to fill them.

Please note only 2020 financial UBPS P&C members can vote these positions in. You can join the P&C as a registered voter anytime, for $1.00, and your membership and voting rights start at the following months meeting. We do hope, regardless of whether you are a current paid member of the P&C that you will come along and join us tonight!

VOLUNTEER ON THE DAY It wouldn’t be our biggest and most fun day of the school year, without the help of parents and members of the community coming together to help out on the day - and we hope you will join us in 2020! A sign in desk will be clearly visible on the day and we hope you’ll give up some time to come along and be a part of this fabulous school community event.

SOUND AND LIGHTING TECHNICIANS 2020

Congratulations Noah 6R, Penelope 6A, Sophie 6R, Ruby 6V, Evren 6A, Rhiarnne 5W, Ki’lulu 5C and India 5C! There were over 15 students who submitted applications for the Sound and Lighting Technician jobs this year. This is a remarkable level of interest and is a testament to the overwhelming positive attitude that Umina Beach kids have towards every aspect of their schooling. It makes me feel extremely proud and also a bit humble to be a teacher at a school where so many children would make the not insignificant effort of writing a full page application for a job with limited positions. I know there are a lot of disappointed boys and girls who were unsuccessful, but unfortunately the nature of the job and the size of the work space means that numbers must be kept to a manageable size. Mr Sollar, Mr Tsakissiris, Mr Bradley and I had a very difficult job deciding, due not only due to the sheer number of applications, but also the extremely high quality. Our existing Sound and Lighting Technicians from last year, Noah, Ruby, Penelope and Sophie continue in 2020, they will be invaluable in assisting our new Technicians to learn everything they need to know for this demanding role. We have created one new position for this year- the job of chair coordinator for assemblies will be undertaken by Saara 5C, congratulations Saara. Well done to the successful students, I’m looking forward to working with all of you this year. To the children not selected, once again thank you for your interest. If you are in year 5, I will keep your applications and they may be helpful to you if you apply next year.
