Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): A
busy ringside of mostly local buyers with some
travelled customers making use of the hot
weather and holding off until the August sale.
However, a virtual total clearance with vendors
left satisfied with people both sides of the ring
unsure of the future. Pure bred types £130-
£160 in general, topping at £165 for Texel
Shearlings from R Lawson with pure bred
Suffolks from JH Towers & Sons to £225 and
£220. Texels out of the Mule £100-£120 for
stronger sorts with smaller types either side of
£90. Ross Bros of Aberdeenshire sold their
best to £128. Mule shearlings topped at £220
from G Jackson, Bentham with a nice genuine
run from N Barker, Burton in Kendal to £130
with AHB Murray selling his best pen to the
same price. Mule shearlings in general £90-
£110 to average £108. Some nice
consignments of Mule ewes topped at £128
from MJ Lawson, Wigton with others to £122
and £118. Brothers I & T Edmondson of
Ulverston took home £102 for their 3 crop
ewes. Andrew Haggas’ Texel ewes once again
had a strong following toping at £120.
Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): With large numbers of cast sheep coming forward in record numbers throughout the country, with the exception of heavy and best bred ewes, other classes sold at reduced rates by £5-£10. Heavy ewes continue to be in strong demand selling between £85-£100 with pure bred ewes selling between £100-£140 topping at £157.50 for Texels from Tom Crosdale, Clapham. Good selling lean types around £70 with small meaty ewes £60+ and grazers £50-£60. A few heavy Mules still managed to break the £80 barrier topping at £88.50 from RC Robinson of
Harrogate. The next draw down either side of £75 with smaller sorts £60+. Lean types £40-£50. Horned ewes seeing the biggest drop of the week with the best Swale and SBF ewes £50-£57. Stronger Horned breeds £60-£70 topping at £75. Medium type ewes £35-£45 with smaller leaner ewes £22-£28. Plain at realisation.
