Principal Notes
Catholic Schools Week is such a wonderful time for us to celebrate who we are. St. Matthias is a school
that provides a rigorous curriculum, works to help all students reach their God-given talents, instills the value of serving others, and works cooperatively with families to help students develop both an academic
and spiritual foundation. This week we celebrate all these areas: knowledge, faith, and service.
Thank you to all who helped with our Open House. It was a wonderful day. We had so many volunteers
giving tours, providing snacks, discussing our various ministries, and helping in classrooms. Thank you for your time and commitment to St. Matthias Parish School.
As you have heard, St. Matthias was chosen as one of the schools for the first cohort of Seton Catholic
Schools. You may have seen additional information on Seton in the news recently. Please see the flyer in
this week’s mailer about this new initiative.
Next week is the start of Lent. We will celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass at 8:30 on Wednesday, February 10th. Please come and join us.
Please make sure students are coming with coats, boots, hats, and mittens. I strongly recommend snow
pants as well. We go outside as long as both the temperature and the wind chill are above 0. Girls who
wear skirts or jumpers should have pants on under them when they go outside. They need to keep their legs covered.

Registration for 2016-2017 School Year
It is time to start planning for the 2016-2017 school year. It is very important to have accurate
information from families as we plan for staff and the number of classes for next year. We asked that the form be returned to the school office by today, January 28, 2016. If you have not returned it, please do
so right away.
Athletic Golf Outing Raffles
In September the Athletic Association sponsored their Annual Golf Outing. There were many raffle items
available. If you won the Spring Concert Preferred Seating or the Lunch with the Principal, please contact Mrs. Booth to let her know.
Student Drop Off & Pick Up
Please remember student drop off & pick up should be on the school playground. Beloit Road is used for
the School Bus and other public transportation vehicles, not to mention it is very dangerous.
Please only use Beloit for drop off after 7:55 a.m. and pick up after 3:15 p.m.

Hot Lunch Update
St. Matthias Parish School has been sending out weekly reminders if the students account is either in a low balance (under $10.00) or negative balance situation. We are receiving feedback from parents that
they are not receiving emails from the NutriKids or My School Bucks systems.
If you are not receiving notifications about your child’s food service balance please contact NutriKids
parent support line at 1-855-832-5226 as they would need to ask some questions that only the parent could answer in order to fix any problems.
As a reminder, St. Matthias’s Lunch policy states that a family may not carry a deficit food account
balance. If your student’s account has a negative balance, the student will not be allowed to purchase ala carte items. If a family’s food account balance is continuously negative, the student will be unable to
participate in extra-curricular activities including athletics during the semester.
Please contact either Mr. Jonathan Richter or Mrs. Susan Booth if you have questions

Wisconsin Parental Choice Program
St. Matthias Parish School will be participating in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP) as well as the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP) for the 2016-2017 school year. When we entered the
MPCP, we were able to help current families as well as offer opportunities for new families to our school family. By entering the WPCP, we will be able to do that for families who reside outside of the city of
Milwaukee.
The WPCP does have a few differences than the MPCP.
Income eligibility is 185% of poverty. See the chart below.
Students already enrolled at St. Matthias may only enter the program if they are in grades K4, K5
or 1st grade for the 2016-2017 school year. Students may enter at any grade level if they were previously enrolled in a public school or were
homeschooled.
The program allows only 1% of a public school district’s population to participate in the WPCP.
Enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year will begin February 1, 2015. Please watch the mailer for additional information.
2016-17 Income Limits for New Students
For the 2016-17 school year, the family income of a student applying to the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP) must be at or below the amount listed in the table below. If a student is continuing in
the program or was on the Department of Public Instruction’s choice waiting list in the prior year, he or
she is no longer required to meet the income limits. Family income includes the income of the student’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) that reside in the same household as the student applicant. If the student’s
parents/legal guardians are married their income is reduced by $7,000 when determining income eligibility for the program. Family size includes parents/legal guardians and their children by birth,
marriage or adoption that reside in the same household as the student applicant.

2015 Wisconsin Tuition Tax Credit
Families who pay tuition for private school are able to receive a tuition tax credit. Mr. Richter has sent out
information for tuition paid to St. Matthias during 2015. You will also need the St. Matthias Federal
Employer Identification Number (FEIN) which is: 39-0808528.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Richter at 414-321-0894 or at [email protected]
Spring Sports Registration
The following sports are offered in spring: Soccer (K4-8th grade), Track (5th-8th grade) and Softball (5th-8th
grade) girls only. Registration is open until Tuesday, March 1st on line at www.stmatthiasathletics.org
Please contact Mr. Spiess with any questions.
Year End Tuition Statements
You should have received an emailed statement on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in which the body of the
email has caused some confusion. The statement that parents received shows what payments have been
made for tuition during the calendar year 2015 as some parents are able to deduct tuition from their WI
state tax return so the statement provides you with the payments made and the statement also provides
you with St. Matthias’s Tax ID number as well.
If you have set up a tuition plan through Smart Tuition, rest assured that there is nothing wrong with
your Smart Tuition payment plan and payments will come out according to the payment plan that you
have established.
Sorry for any confusion that this may have caused. If there are any questions, please contact Jonathan
Richter by email at [email protected]
Jump Rope for Heart
Jump Rope for Heart is right around the corner! Get a head start with online fundraising (see instructions
in the mailer flyer) and win a special prize at our Kickoff Assembly on Tuesday, February 9th. Please
contact Mr. Spiess at [email protected] with any questions.

Ski/Snowboard Club Bonus Day
We will have ski club from noon-6:00pm on Friday, February 5th. All students must have a parent or
guardian stay at Alpine Valley this time because only Mrs. Patterson will be there. You may
stay past 6:00pm as long as you are still with a parent or guardian. Tickets will be sold between
12:00pm-1:30pm as well as 4:30pm-6:00pm. There will be a lesson offered at 1:00pm or we can check
what is offered from 3:00pm-7:00pm. No evaluations will be done before 3:00pm so you must go to the
hills at the level you have on your sticker.
Friday afternoons are really nice and quiet, no crowds! Please email me with any questions at:
