Dear Parents
Orange Public starts a very exciting two weeks, with the 2019 Kindergarten transition
getting underway. There will be five new classes of Kindergarten coming to the school for
two days each, over the fortnight, with the teachers already talking about the amazing
group of students we are looking forward to welcoming into the school next year. The
children have been arriving with excited faces and positive attitudes and are showing all
the signs of being ready for BIG school.
This week Orange Public School was delighted with the effort displayed on Monday by
our girls touch football team at the State finals played in Sydney. Coming against very
stiff competition the OPS team showed the quality we have come to expect and enjoyed
two exceptional games at the highest level. To finish in the top eight in the state is a huge
achievement and we are so proud of the girls.
We celebrate NAIDOC Week at the school and have been strongly represented at the
march on Monday with grades 3,4,5 & 6 participating along with our Indigenous students
in grades K,1 & 2. The school showed the respect associated with such an important
event highlighting the Aboriginal culture enjoyed in Orange. Throughout the week the
school has activities planned including today with the NAIROC concert occurring in which
we have dancers who have been rehearsing extensively. We wish them the best of luck
at the concert.
Today we also wish our Athletic representative students the best of luck as the opening
day of competition kicks off at the State Championships in Sydney. We have students
representing in track and field events as individuals as well as our OPS boys senior relay
team.
On Friday we wish both Jessica and Nethuli the very best of luck at the State Spelling Bee
Championships being held in Sydney. The girls will be representing Orange Public, Orange
District and the entire Western Region across all schools including Public, Independent
and Catholic. The very best of luck to the girls and congratulations for your effort and
achievement up to and including the event.
Next week Ms Smith takes our boys cricket team forward into the state championships
when we play Wagga in round 6 of the competition. Best of luck to the boys and luckily
we have a home game for parents.
The school disco was held and was a big success. It was a fun night and raised over $2500
which will directly go to the school. A big thanks to the parents and teachers that gave up
their time to make it such an enjoyable evening for the students.
Last night the Open Garden committee held their weekly meeting in readiness for the November 10th event, with
plans being finalised. Excitement is building in what promises to be a marvellous event involving the school's
P&C facilitating the opening of 8 extraordinary gardens across the Orange area and surrounds. The gardens are
looking magnificent with the variety and quality of the gardens really making the day something special.
Tickets for the event can be purchased on the day with the entire 8 gardens being accessible for a base value of $25.
Tickets can be purchased at the school or gardens themselves, with a map being provided next week. For those who
feel the range of 8 gardens will be too many for them on the day individual gardens will be accessible at a cost of $5
per garden.
During the day several gardens will be also operating cake and
drink stalls so community members can stay refreshed and we look
forward to welcoming visitors, parents and the entire community to
the event. Tickets sales will commence at 9.30am at the central hub
being the Primary School on Kite Street with gardens opening at
10am. We are looking for parents to assist on the day with a high
number of expected visitors. Parents can volunteer to assist for an
hour or so at any garden and can register their interest through
schoolinterviews.com.au - event code S9esk
The OPS Orange Open Gardens also has a facebook page with
updates of the event and can be found using the following address
https://www.facebook.com/orangeopengardens/ Information can be
found on our website at www.orange-p.schools.nsw.edu.au
As the weather warms up we remind parents that all children require their school hat with them each day for play
periods to reduce concerns from the sun. Another area of interest is that the school will be offering the purchase of
school sunglasses to the children later in the term and into next year. The sunglasses come in the school colour of
royal blue and have OPS lettering. They have a name plate on the inside of the arm and also come with a sturdy
carrycase that can be attached to the students bag. Also the glasses come in four sizes ensuring the correct fit. The
cost of the glasses will be kept at cost price in the area of $12. The children will be able to view the glasses this week
with initial orders being taken in week 5.
Enjoy the week.

Billy Blood Drop Challenge
Orange Public School has been participating in the Billy Blood Drop Challenge
since July, 2018. We are currently coming very close with Calare Public School in
the challenge.
We are encouraging our parent community to donate blood if you are able to
and mention OPS when donating.
PSSA Boys Cricket On Tuesday 23rd October our boys’ cricket team competed in Round 5 of the knockout competition against Griffith
North PS. Winning the toss we elected to bowl. With tight and consistent bowling we were able to restrict Griffith
North to 29 runs at drinks. After drinks runs were easier for the batsman as our bowling was not as consistent. We
were able to tighten this up in the last 5 overs with the batsman only able to score 5 runs. Griffith North 9-70 after 25
overs. Well done to Daniel 4-7 from 4 overs, Toby 2-2 from 4 overs, Tom 2-11 from 5 overs and Damian 1-8 from 3
overs.
Our opening batsmen (Darcy and Tom) knew they needed to ensure the runs were constant. They did a great job with
our first wicket falling at 35(Darcy 12 runs) in the 8th over. Our new batsman (Ben 10 runs) continued to support Tom.
We were therefore able to pass Griffith North’s score in 14th over with Tom finishing 40 not out and Toby 3 not out.
Special thanks to Tom. O who volunteered to be 12th man on the day.
We look forward to our Round 6 match against Lake Albert PS on Monday 5th November. 4
