Dear Parents
Come one and all to the opening of our Education Week Celebrations with our ‘Orange
Public School in Concert’ evening, Thursday 6.30pm. This evening will be showcasing
our Choir groups and all of the Band and Music ensembles, in what promises to be a
lovely evening of entertainment. The evening will run for approximately 1 hour in the
community hall and we look forward to seeing many of you to acknowledge the hard
work of students, tutors and staff.
At the end of last week the Cross Country representatives competed at the State
Championships in Sydney with each member securing a finish and commendable times
were achieved by each OPS competitor. I would also like to thank each family who made
the trip down to Eastern Creek to support their child and the school.
Our girls touch football team shone on Friday with their first win against Glenroi Heights
Public School in a very tough match. The sportsmanship shown was outstanding and we
thank Miss Pitts and Mr Priest for coaching of the girls.
This week we also have a full week of activity with the Choral rehearsals in Bathurst
being held on Monday. Mrs Sawyer reported the children performed exceptionally well
and truly highlighted the quality of our students.
Tuesday saw our first sport event for the week with the boys soccer winning a great
game against Millthorpe Public School at Jack Brabham Oval. Thank you to all parents
who attended and assisted with transport and to Mrs Smith and Jacinta Milne for
coaching. Today our boys were on the field again, this time playing Touch Football
against Bletchington Public School. A very exciting game saw the teams with a 5 all
draw, moving to extra time the boys won 6 - 5 in a drop off. They now progress in the
PSSA to the next round. Congratulations to all the boys on a great effort.
Tomorrow our Rugby Team will be travelling to the Blue Mountains with Mr Bale to play
in the final 16 in the state. We wish this team the best of luck and hope that all children
enjoy the experience of playing such a high level competition.
The school is very fortunate to have scheduled a visit from OHS, promoting some
enriching activities to celebrate National Science Week, for students attending their
school in the New Year.
Book Club
closes
Finally on Friday the Boys will be swapping back to Basketball with the team scheduled to play Eglington. Mr Sillet is
expecting very tough competition on the day and with our boys having been involved in several sports during the
week, they will have to focus.
On Saturday Orange Public School will be welcoming our 8 visiting students from China who will arriving at 4pm. The
children and staff will be staying in Orange for the week and will enjoy having the experience of staying with an
Australian family whilst attending our school. I am sure the whole school will benefit from the experience and we are
so grateful to all the wonderful families who offered to have a billet for the week.
Next week the school is celebrating two monumental occasions being Education Week and Book Week. Firstly the
children are to come dressed as their favourite super hero or a hero of their own creation with the theme for the
week being ‘Reading is my Secret Power’. We will be very excited to see the wonderful costumes worn on the day. On
Thursday we will be having our Open Day with Infants classes open between 12.30pm through to 1pm followed by
Primary classes open between 1.20pm and 1.50pm. This is different to the original times due to our Eisteddfod
commitments.
The school will also be wishing the best of luck to the debating teams who will be competing on Monday in the
Premiers debating Challenge. Mrs Cope is delighted in the progress of the debating teams and commends their
efforts and ability to take on constructive feedback from the adjudicators.
Our Parent teacher meetings are also scheduled to continue on Tuesday 6th August starting at 3.30pm. This is such a
valuable opportunity for parents to have a discussion with their child’s teacher.
Wednesday next week will see Stage 2 enjoying the chance to see professional theatre with the performance of ‘The
Twits’, at the Orange Civic Theatre. The children are very excited to be going to what promises to be a great
performance of a timeless classic.
Next week will also see the Orange Eisteddfod kick into gear with the Verse Speaking commencing on Thursday for
our Kindergarten and Year 2 classes and we are so excited to see how well our students present their performances.
Good luck to all involved on the day. Parents are welcome to attend the performance at the Orange Function Centre.
Our school strives to promote quality educational opportunities in each and every classroom, complimented by
diverse extra-curricular activities including excursions and sport. One area we impress upon all of our children, is to
grow with strong health knowledge, from their fitness to their choices of food and lifestyle. One area we always talk
strongly with children is around smoking. The government rule of no smoking at any school or sporting field supports
this. I would like to ask parents to have consideration towards children and other parents in relation to smoking near
the school and avoid smoking in areas of high traffic flow of pedestrians for the benefit of all attending our school.
Enjoy the week.

PSSA Boys Football (Soccer)
Tuesday we played our Round 6 match against Millthorpe PS at Sir Jack Brabham Park. As we expected the
competition was stronger than we had experienced. We were very fortunate to score first from a ball struck by Luke
that dribbled past Millthorpe’s goalkeeper. Millthorpe fought back strongly and by half-time the score was level.
Realising the urgency we began the second half strongly maintaining pressure on the Millthorpe defenders. This
resulted in them making a crucial mistake. Pat S made no mistake with his penalty.
Up 2-1 the tension was building but Pat N maintained his composure and scored a well-deserved goal. With minutes
left in the game Millthorpe tried everything but our defenders stayed strong and Tom B in goals ensured their efforts
did not make the back of the net.
Well done to everyone a great team effort!
I would also like to thank Canobolas Rural Technology High School for providing us with our match referees, Jerome
Beckett, Jai Anlezark and Mitchell Crossman. The school has assisted us with our referees for our home games and I
have appreciated how helpful they have been.
We are looking forward to our next game in Dubbo.
