iMMAP - IHF Humanitarian Access Response Weekly Explosive Incidents Flash News 31 January to 6 February 2019 Ninewa Governorate Total Number of Explosive Incidents per Week Total Number of Explosive Incidents in Mosul Corridor, Hawiga and Western Anbar Operations Areas An Armed Group 31 January 2019 ● Shot and killed a civilian in Bazwaya village, immediately after the incident they fled to an unknown destination. Popular Mobilization Forces 1 February 2019 ● They were able to find a prison, medicine storage and a manufacturing facility for IEDs during a search operation in Al-Qahira and Hazil villages in Qayrawan subdistrict west of Mosul city. Worth mentioning that the ISIS used the prison for men and women. Security Forces 2 February 2019 ● They were able to find 2 tunnels during a search operation in Adaya mountains in Hatra district. The tunnels were used formerly for hiding themselves against the airstrikes. Popular Mobilization Forces 5 February 2019 ● Conducted a search operation in Jakn Kharab area on the outskirts of Telafar district, they were able to clear an F16 missile. Police Forces 6 February 2019 ● According to an intelligence information arrested 6 ISIS members in Al-Mulawatha area west of Mosul city, the ISIS members are fighters in Diwan Al-Jund and they fought against Iraqi Forces. Analysis: Daily ISFs search for the ISIS sleeper cells and locking down some parts of the city to arrest them is an indication of an increase of activities and attacks of the ISIS against the security forces. "Islamic State" Daesh, poses a serious threat, as spreading dozens of militants in villages near the city of Mosul. Ninewa deputies in the Iraqi parliament and city officials appealed to the Iraqi prime minister to send more troops to Mosul, stressing that threats are serious. Analysis: Military search operations are ongoing in areas were under ISIS control and areas suspected of their existence. The continuous targeting of key government employees remains an issue in the north east. In addition to ISIS sporadic attacks to destabilize the security situation, there are also severe ethnic and religious tribal frictions that boil down to reach ranking government staff in areas that have mixed demographics. An Armed Group 1 February 2019
● Exploded an IED near Makhoul valley north of the governorate, in which 2 children killed and 5 other persons injured worth noting that 2 of injuries were women. ISIS 1 February 2019
● Exploded an IED on a vehicle of employees of Siniya refinery in which an employee killed and 6 others injured by the explosion. At recent days ISIS has been carrying out sabotaging operations in different places aimed at destabilizing the security, spreading violence and enforcing its front in the western and eastern areas of the governorate. ● Exploded a roadside IED on a civilian vehicle in Al-Jalam area west of Samarra district, the explosion killed a child and injured all his family members in the vehicle.
Security Forces 5 February 2019
● They were able to clear terrorist hotbeds during a search operation in Anid village in Mutaibija area, the hotbeds contained foods and cooking equipment.
Security Forces with the Coalition Air Forces 6 February 2019
● Carried out a search operation in Jazeera west of Sinea subdistrict, the Coalition Air Forces launched a strike on an ISIS tunnel killing 8 of them. Immediately after the strike the Iraqi Security Forces started to chase the remnants and able to kill 3 of them. ISIS 6 February 2019
● Kidnapped 3 brothers on the Makhoul mountain, they were collecting truffles.
Analysis: Despite successive military operations, ISIS continues to attack militias and security forces in Northern Iraq. They continuekidnapping civilians aiming to destabilize the security situation in the area.
Security Forces 31 January 2019
● They were able to arrest 2 suspected and wanted persons in the areas south of the high way and in Rutba district.● They were able to clear 3 IEDs during a search operation in Al-Zuya area.● In Albu Di’lij area they cleared 112 locally-made IEDs belonged to ISIS.
Security Forces 2 February 2019
In search operations:● They cleared 68 IEDs, a booby-trapped house and an explosive belt belonged to the ISIS.● They cleared a road from the Ain Al-Asad airbase hall to Ka’ba checkpoint.● In Kabisa area they cleared 1km of oil company pipeline.
Analysis: The huge infiltration of the ISIS came after the start of the operations of the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian army toclean up the areas of eastern Syria which caused direct clashed against the Iraqi Security Forces. Military search operations are continuingin areas where there are ISIS movements and hideouts and explosive remnants of war.
ISIS 31 January 2019● Sniped a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Bawa Mahmud area in Khanaqin district, without any casualties.
Popular Mobilization Forces 1 February 2019
● Launched missiles targeting identified ISIS positions after detecting their movements on the outskirts of Thilab valley within Naft Khana basin.
ISIS 2 February 2019
● Sniped a security position on the outskirts of Bakhtyari area near Khanaqin district without any casualties. The security forces counterattacked it.
An Armed Group 3 February 2019
● Exploded an IED on an incomplete constructed vegetable souk on the outskirts of Kahanqin district, causing big material damages.
Security Forces 5 February 2019
● Carried out a search operation in Bazayz area south Ba’quba district, they faced a clash against the terrorists, killing one of them and arresting 2 others who carried light weapons and ammunitions. Analysis: Sporadic and intermittent attacks by the ISIS still persist in Diyala governorate targeting military personnel and civilians. Military movements and operation searches are the first step to stabilization effortsof the security in the area.
