of mid-morning snacks on offer are not entirely unfounded. We will review briefly what was done last fall and winter to preserve our woodlands heritage. We will identify types of needed work that await us now, e.g., types of vines, cutting vines, pulling younger vines up by their roots, etc. We will look into “painting” cut vines too large to be pulled up. WHATS HAPPENING IN THE LIBRARY Can’t find the book you want in the Collington Library? Wish you could read a magazine that we do not have in our Reading Room? Would you like to hear an audio book or listen to a particular CD? Prince George’s Public Library System has a Books By Mail program and you can use it by filling out the application form located at the sign-out desk. Follow the directions. If you have a question, call 7349 or 7504.

If you are using the Library computers and want to use the audio feature, please bring a pair of headphones with you. This is so the audio will not disturb other residents.

Note to the committees with notebooks located in the library: please keep your minutes up-to-date. The committee notebooks are located in the Drama/Collingtonian room.

We know many of you use the Window Sill books. These are books that are either donated to the library but we cannot use them or books that are no longer circulating in the library and we need the space for incoming donated books. The money you put in the donation box is used by the Library to purchase new books and for minor Library expenses.

Remember the profile forms given to you when you signed up to come to Collington? What was the reason to bother filling them out? You were busy downsizing one residence and preparing to move into another. Maybe you will do it later. The reason for these forms is they are placed in what is called the Red Notebooks that are located in the Library. 235 residents have NOT filled them out! Some may have been lost or misplaced, but whatever happened to them they are not here. The Red Notebooks are located in the same bookcase holding the current Collington Authors books. The bookcase is on the back wall of the Library near the round table. There will be profile forms in a box on the check out desk waiting for 235 of us to fill them out. When you have completed your form, put it in another box on the table and someone will put your profile in the notebook for you. Please fill out a profile.

SACKLER MUSEUM, “SATOTUS: MAKING WAVES”: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28; Departing Collington at 10AM, returning by 3PM. Tawaraya Sōtatsu (ca. 1570‒ca. 1640), a fountainhead of Japanese painting and design, is one of the most influential yet elusive figures in Japanese culture. Sōtatsu’s work is instantly recognized by its bold, abstracted style, lavish swaths of gold and silver, and rich jewel tones. Much of the artist’s life, however, remains a mystery. How a working-class owner of a Kyoto fan shop transformed into a sophisticated designer with a network of aristocratic collaborators is still an enigma.

Sōtatsu: Making Waves is the first in-depth examination of this major Japanese artist. The exhibition convenes for the first time more than seventy of Sōtatsu’s masterpieces from collections in Japan, Europe, and the United States, along with homage pieces by later artists that demonstrate his long-ranging influence. Highlights include Waves at Matsushima and Dragons and Clouds, along with fans, albums, hanging scrolls, and paintings. The Freer|Sackler is the only venue for this first major Sōtatsu retrospective in the Western Hemisphere.
