President’s Message
Hello Everyone,
This last week has showcased the best of Rotary (and Inner Wheel). Our Club changeover was a most successful evening, and I had the pleasure of attending the changeover of the Inner Wheel Club of Baulkham Hills and the Inner Wheel Club of Norwest. The cooperation between Rotary and Inner Wheel can only be beneficial to all. A very special thanks must go to the organisers of our Club changeover, particularly PP Bobby and MC Alan. I am looking forward to a great year ahead. Regards, President Rob
Good luck for your Rotary Year, President Rob Mackey. We
hope you have a fantastic year.
Happy Birthday to Allan Walker (4th July) and Jim Sifonios (6th July)
Great to see you back at the Club, Suresh.
Congratulations to incoming Inner Wheel Presidents, President
Lyn Stapley of the Baulkham Hills Inner Wheel Club; and
President Deborah Campbell of the Norwest Inner Wheel Club.
Wishing you, both, every success in your special year.
We never really grow up; we only learn how to act in public

President Bobby
Bobby’s last meeting as President. She welcomes to Suresh, back from a lengthy recovery; and
thanked our stand in Sergeant, Mike O’Connell.
Last Friday’s visit to the Inner Wheel musical evening at Northmead was a very rewarding experience
and we were fortunate to listen to some very talented people (reported by Penny).
The last board meeting for 2012-13 is on Wednesday at Alan’s home; all incoming Board members
are invited.
Registration for the 2014 District Conference is now open. Please register early.
We received an email from Rotary Against Malaria (RAM) thanking us for our donation and
confirming that we are happy for it to go towards a container of nets being sent to Timor Leste, later
in the year. Once the container is full and ready for despatch, RAM will notify us to see if any Club
Members wish to assist in the distribution.
DIRECTORS REPORTS
SECRETARY - Wilf van Emmerik
Mail received and distributed: Thank you letter from RIDBC for the donation towards their “Save the
Children” program; Parramatta Riverside Theatre program; Details from the Council on Legislation
on resolutions passed; Invitation to attend DURAL RC Changeover, on July 26.
As Acting Treasurer, a progress report from Bourke Public School on the attendance update and
other functions of the Breakfast program, together with a thank you for our continuing support.
CLUB SERVICE - Alan Jones
Our next meeting on July 1, with new Directors in most roles will be to present the 2013-2014 Club
Plan to members.
The following Monday, July 8, will feature, Jack Daniels, on Magic as Therapy
COMMUNITY SERVICE – Graeme Rohan
The Bowelcare program has been successfully completed and all test, bins, unused kits and
advertising collected, final figures re usage have not been compiled but the program seemed to be
as active as previous years (reported by Gordon Scoble).
Proceeds from Dan Murphy seem to be increasing, but patronage at Rouse Hill has not picked up
over the last six months.
PUBLIC RELATIONS No Report
INTERNATIONAL SERVICE - Rob Mackey
Nothing to report on the International agenda, but as Incoming President the following:
D.G. Graeme Davies’ zone visit will occur on August 19, at “Madisons” Dural (formerly Burning Log).
This is occurring on a Monday night and therefore to be treated as a regular meeting night; we want
a strong contingent attending from The Hills- Kellyville.
The Raffle prize was AGAIN won by Ray Campbell. The Stand in Sergeant extracted his usual “per diem”

It was great to see, young, Yanik Fernando, Year 12 student at William Clarke
College, here at the Club again.
Yanik is becoming quite a familiar sight at the Club after first becoming involved
with us when he prepared and co-ordinated a plan to collect clothing for the Hills
people of Sri Lanka and we were able to support him in assisting to transport the
clothing to Sri Lanka for him.
At the last meeting Yanik updated us on his project and also told us all about the
Autumn School of Engineering for which the Club sponsored him to attend,
earlier in the year.
This young man shows so much potential that there is no question that we will see more of Yanik in the
future.

Club Changeover – always a very special night and for me, as outgoing President, this year was always going
to be an extra special one…….little did I know, as I headed up to the Dural Country Club just how special it
would turn out…….!!!
Arriving at the Club, it was pleasing to see that the tables had
been decorated in the bright colours that I had requested.
Members and Guests were already starting to arrive – Incoming
President Rob already there waiting – clearly as excited as I was.
We had booked for 52 people; sadly there were a couple of late
apologies so the end number was 47 attendees. Guests
included District Governor John Dodd and his wife Janelle; Past
District Governor Larry Jack and his wife Miriam (President of
the Rotary Club of Winston Hills); Incoming Assistant District
Governor Joan van den Berg; MP for Hawkesbury Ray Williams; President Paul Robinson and his wife Carmel
from the Rotary Club of Castle Hill; together with Rotarians and Friends of our Club along with the family and
guests.
The Club awards were already set out ready for presentation, but when DG John arrived, virtually his first
words were, “I am going to need some space on that table and some extra time to that already allocated to
me”. “Yeah” I thought, we have won a District award this year…and this was quickly confirmed for me –
except that we had won more than one award. As DG John started working through his list in order to put
the specific Avenue of Service Director’s name against the award my excitement grew…yes, more than
one….more than two…..more than three…and so it went on….my head was spinning. When he had finished
his list he said “Well actually there’s more, but we’ll leave that until later!”

The event commenced with MC for the
night Alan Jones finally succeeding in
bringing everyone to order and into their
seats. Special guests were welcomed,
Grace was said and toasts were made and
responded to. A substantial dinner was
served and enjoyed, along with some
rousing fellowship. DG John often refers to the volume of noise as an indicator of the level of enjoyment of
fellowship and judging by the volume on this Saturday night, everyone was having a great time.
My report for the year was made. I’m sure some will say it was longer than
necessary, but I won’t apologise, as from my perspective it was impossible to talk
about everything the Club had done and to thank the people who had worked so
hard to achieve the brilliant results in less time. It was then time to commence
the awards. Congratulations to Keith Stapley on winning the Club’s Bill Bazeley
award for all of the wonderful things that he has done for the Club this year. The
remaining Club awards were announced but presentations have been held over
until Monday night. The District awards then commenced. The Rotary Club of The
Hills-Kellyville was awarded:-
The Golden Quill award for PR – accepted by PR Director - Gordon Scoble
The Bulletin Award for small Clubs – accepted by Secretary Wilf van Emmerik
The District Youth Award – accepted by PP Penny Hill in Youth Director, Jim Sifonios’ absence
The Certificate of recognition for Community Service – accepted by PP Keith Stapley in Community
Direct, Graeme Rohen’s absence.
The Certificate of recognition for International Service – accepted by International Service Director –
Robert Mackey
The icing on the cake for the Club was to receive a Presidential Citation from Rotary International.
Congratulations to the Director’s; their committees; and to all the Members of the Club on achieving so
much in one year. How could anything top this??????
Proceedings continued as planned – the Charter and banners were exchanged; we welcomed Incoming
President Robert who made a short speech and introduced his incoming Board. I was presented with a
beautiful bouquet of red roses and John Dodd made his closing address. Just as I was sitting back and
relaxing as the night drew to a close, there was one last surprise…. Just thinking about it brings tears to my
eyes (but I was on my best behaviour on the night….not a tear in sight!)…..MC Alan announced that I was to
receive a Paul Harris Fellow Award, which was presented by DG John Dodd. I can’t begin to tell you how
surprised I was and how honoured I am to receive very special award. Thank you all so much, I am so proud
to be a Rotarian and member of the Rotary Club of The Hills-Kellyville.
